Chapter 60: Lost

The captain double checked his calculations and had the right spot, but the Phoenix was nowhere to be found. Boosting his scanners he tried again, but still no sign.

"Where are they?" Baker asked with a tinge of fear bleeding out from his voice.

"They didn't make it," Franklin blurted out believing the worst.

"Alright you two, let's keep the speculation off the table," Roche commanded. "We need to stick to the facts. Fact one, we are alive. Fact two, all of our ships are fully intact and operational. There is a system within an eighth of a light year that has a large dead planet with a dozen moons. A couple of those moons show indications of water and oxygen. We should leave a communication relay here and set up a temporary survival base on one of the moons. The Phoenix might simply be delayed, and we have a limit on breathable air, food, and water so landing will buy us some time."
