Trash Heaven has been Didi Duke’s home for as long as she can remember. The dumping ground of the galaxy provides her with everything she’s ever needed or wanted. Except, maybe, the attention of her inventor father, always busy with his next creation. Good thing he’s passed on his talents to his sixteen-year-old daughter. With the company of her best friend—the cyborg crow, Pip—Didi is happy to scour her territory for treasures discarded as trash. But, when an evil Underlord kidnaps her father, Didi can no longer hide herself away in the garbage. Her plan to resurrect a retired cyborg gunslinger and rescue her dad leads her into danger and the heart of the rotting planet—Trash City. She’ll figure out the rest of her plan—eventually.

Didi wakes in her quarters, shocked to find she's in one piece. Why didn't they kill her? There's no sign of Pip or GS as she leaps from the bed, no worse for Lilas's attentions. A quick check over herself, adrenaline surging and pushing her to pant her terror as she spins in circles examining every inch of her reveals nothing but the small pocket of fake flesh she herself created, the gold chip hidden still in the disguise of her DNA. No cyborg tech implants she didn't ask for, no enhancements she can detect. She stands still at last, shaking and breathing hard, turning her awareness inward just in case they did something to her she can't see.


Shock to find herself whole and herself sends Didi crashing to the floor, her knees buckling beneath her, butt hitting the carpet with a dull thud. She sobs into her hands, the release of tension the best thing she can do for herself though she hates the weakness of her tears.
