Chapter 92: Set Up

Didi refuses to be reduced to pacing yet again. Refuses. This forced cornering will not be born. Knowing she's risking her grandmother's wrath and not caring, she pulls her goggles down over her eyes and whispers his name.

Pip answers instantly. "Deeds? What happened? There was an alarm and people running and Tarvis couldn't find out-"

Didi hisses at him to silence him. "Is Dad with you now?"

"Yes, he's right here. What's going on?"

She inhales, exhales, braces herself. "Grandfather is dead." She almost chokes up saying it. "Emily thinks Mom murdered him." Funny how she can call the fallen Solomon her family but her living grandmother is another matter. "I saw her, Pip. With him. When he died." At least, Didi's assuming so. Her feet are moving without her permission, driving her into her pacing cycle again. It helps her think so she doesn't fight it. At least she has access to her crow friend. She worried their subcue connection would be disrupted.
