I glared at the sheriff with my temper and protectiveness combining into a big ball of righteousness. "You knew this whole time. Why didn't you say anything?" I turned to Denver, shook my head abruptly. "Don't say another word, just stay quiet." He looked startled, pale while Alice held his hand. "You asked for a lawyer, Denver." I met Alice's eyes, hoped she got my meaning. "We heard you ask." Technically he hadn't. But screw Crew Turner right now for trying to trap this kid into saying more than he'd wanted to in the first place. Alice understood my message, obviously, because she nodded back.
"Absolutely, that's what I heard," she said. "This is entrapment, Sheriff."
