Chapter 145: Newswoman's Nose

Pamela seemed startled by my question. "I didn't know they had one."

Okay, so not as helpful as I'd hoped. "What about Manuel Cortez?" And now I was all over the place with my questions, her confusion apparent.

"What are you looking for, Fee?" She switched back into newspaper mode, at least, her confession time over with and the inquisitive mind returned. Hmmm. Maybe I should have gone into investigative journalism rather than police work. Shook that off as I answered with the information Dad and I dug up.

Pamela's growing frown about my suggestion Sadie's death might have been connected to the Cortez boy only told me she wasn't open to such thinking just yet.

"Trust me," she said, voice vibrating with anger, "this is all about Sadie. She earned that death, Fee, as sad as it is for me to admit. Someone had a bone to pick, likely connected to money she defrauded them, and they killed her for it."
