Instead of the landline, I reached for my cellphone, all the numbers I needed logged there.

My finger hovered over Crew's for a long moment as I thought about sharing what Dad's friend gave us while my heart clenched against talking to him.

And how was I going to tell Emelia and Amos their son was murdered? Clearly that wasn't my job. But if the poison that killed Manuel showed up in Sadie, did that mean Emelia was the murderer after all? Or, if Sadie's death was from something different, was there a connection at all aside from the circumstantial?

That did nothing to mitigate the fact Manuel Cortez was murdered. While his death happened elsewhere, I couldn't get past the fact his had to be connected. That led me right back to his mother.
