Chapter 29: Into the Fire

“Commander Harrington!” I called out as I ran into the machine shop where he was supervising the reconstruction of items damaged and destroyed when the spy tried to take over the stations missile systems. “Sir!” I called out over the noise of saws, drills and laser welders.

“What is it?” he barked back after seeing it was me calling out to him.

“Sir, we have just over twenty troopers stranded in the combat zone, and I need a team to go with me in the blackbird to get them out.”

“Hold on lieutenant. What the hell are you talking about?”

I then realized that he wasn’t up to speed about the battle as it wasn’t something being broadcast around the station. So as quickly as I could, I explained the details of the battle, how the fleet was pulling back to regroup and how we have troops left behind on the ground who will be slaughtered if we don’t go after them now.
