Chapter 27: Betray Or Betrayed

The urge to contact the High Council and turn Mahalia in was incredibly tempting. I had enough personal proof now, it would be simple to convince the Enforcers to have her arrested and charged, certain too they would jump at the chance.

But I finally discarded the idea, for purely selfish reasons. Lilibeth may have severed my tie to the coven, but my link to Winnifreth remained strong. And if I was going to ensure she became the next leader, I would be better off taking matters into my own paws and not involving outsiders.

This was my family and I refused to give up on them.

Delightful, the bandages Mahalia wore on her hands, the unhappy blisters on her cheeks for the next few days as I watched the house.
