Chapter 43: Arrested

Not surprisingly, I was the only woman in my particular cell. I wasn't sure if the officers who took me into custody knew whom they manhandled, but they were careful enough when they guided me into the Yard.

A rather annoying half hour later, when I refused to speak or answer any questions, I was deposited in said cell to mull over my fate and try to decide what to do.

I could, of course, simply use my magic to unlock the door and stroll out. Or attempt to, at any rate. I was fairly certain the officers in the building would have something to say about my departure. I could see such an attempt at escape devolving into a rather messy battle doing more harm than good.

As much as my mother loved and adored me, I was more than certain I'd already strained my good graces. Starting an international incident with the local police force would surely not end well no matter if I escaped or not.
