Chapter 272: Messing With Fate

She was about a half a heartbeat from feeling my foot in the crack of her ass.

"You're not my Fate," I said through clenched teeth, forgetting on purpose I actually liked Mia in the moment I needed to get my mojo back. "I don't have to listen to you."

She actually seemed surprised. "I don't know what that means."

Right. One Universe, not two. Two Fates, though, where maybe there was only supposed to be one? Gabriel was juggling more than I understood, I guess.

"There have always been two Fates, Syd," Mia said, quashing my worry over my son, at least in part. "Two sides of the story. You must know that. I'm not yours, and neither is Zoe."

Whatever. I was far too over it to worry about sophistry at this point. Let the mess inside my head sort itself out. I was done worrying if anyone thought I'd lost it. "So tell me something useful already," I said, "rather than accusing me of making a bigger disaster than the Universe is presently heading toward."
