Chapter 285: Prepared For War

I was actually surprised when Max split the veil and landed us on the cold and desolate mountaintop overlooking the familiar plains of Demonicon. I slid free of his back, floating to the ground, missing the warmth of his massive body a moment if only out of the comfort it brought me.

"Don't tell me," I said, "this spot has special significance?" I threw my arms wide, spun in a circle so I didn't have to look over the sheared off edge where I'd first officially met him. "Let me guess, you destroyed some kind of precious something here and Creator needs us to fix that, too."

Max chuckled. Not quite, he sent. I just like it here.

"So do I." This time I wasn't shocked, turning to find Trill waiting for us, her denim jacket scuffed at the collar, dark hair in a low ponytail. I missed her glasses for some reason, the studious and serious look the dark rims gave her. She hadn't worn them in ages, though, didn't need them anymore, I guess.
