Chapter 30: Scheming

I settled behind my desk with a pounding headache and no desire to tackle the stack of paperwork awaiting my attention.

It had been three days since our return to Ostrogotho, three days since Xeoniteridone and the Planeless vanished from

sight. There had been no further instances of their appearing, all quiet around Demonicon, according to Jabuticabron. And

no further outflux of demons from the cities or loss of soldiers to them, so I could only believe Xeoniteridone was good

to his word.

For now, that was. I had little doubt he was scheming something different now that I'd curtailed his overt activities.

One good thing came from this-Zinniaperimote's warning about Tanasharia, and my cousin's plan to challenge me for the

throne was obviously no longer an option. The young demon was gone with the Planeless.

The air beside me shimmered and the veil parted, my sister stepping through. I rose to greet her, hugging Syd before she

pushed me back with a worried frown.
