I tossed and turned, trying to get some sleep, wondering how I could ever sleep again knowing Demonicon was falling apart
around me. But even I needed rest, lest my judgment become clouded by stress and worry as well as the expended power I'd
used up in the last day or so.
It felt like putting everything on hold, lying there in my giant bed while the moons rose one by one through my window.
And yet, I'd done everything I could for the moment, or, at least, I told myself so. I'd tried to reach Syd again just a
half hour earlier, only to catch Sashenka in the basement when I opened the veil.
As the veil opened to the familiar family basement, Sashenka looked startled, hands full of candles. She squealed in
surprise, dropping the heavy wax cylinders, catching them with the family magic just before they hit the floor.
"Sorry," I winced.
She laughed and tossed back her long, dark hair, spinning the candles into place with a burst of energy before shrugging
