Chapter 44

Andrew returned to his chair and sat with his hands covering his face. Eleanor came over and stood behind him, her hands on his shoulders.

"We all know that Barrett sees Ngaiti as being the only witness that can prove his translations were misleading, if not outright dishonest," said Andrew finally removing his hands from his head and looking at Isaac. "If Ngaiti testifies as a witness at the land hearings court then he could ruin Barrett, not to mention the damage it would cause the Company. Ngaiti has told us he's felt threatened by Barrett for some time. Again, we know this to be true because he was attacked. We also know the land hearings will begin as soon as the commissioner arrives in New Zealand, so if Barrett was going to protect himself then he would do so now. The discovery of this body can only be Ngaiti, I feel it," said Andrew. "Don't ask me how, I just know."

"Andrew, I hope you are wrong, your feelings are not proof," said Isaac.
