Chapter 82

They continued to walk up Willis Street and were about to go their own separate ways when a shout made them stop.

"Who is that?" asked Charles.

They waited together for the man to approach. As he drew near, Tom recognized him.

"That's Major Richmond, one of the Police Magistrates," said Tom in surprise.

"Good evening sirs, I'm Richmond, the Police Magistrate. Please keep your hands from your pockets sir," indicated the magistrate to Charles.

"It didn't take you long to get here and we weren't even going to report the incident," said Tom. "Was there a witness who saw what happened?"

Charles looked on curiously.

"I just received a complaint that two gentlemen fitting your description attempted to rob an individual, when he refused to hand over the money, one of you beat, then robbed him," said Richmond arrogantly. "I'd like you both to come with me to the court house where I will take your details. I'll have your names now, you first," he pointed to Tom.
