3 AM Horror

In normal circumstances, lights should have been off in this time of the day, but due to the necessity and circumstances they were in, the lights were like a ray of hope and protection for them.

Not only did it help them see in the dark, but it also made it easy for them to kill any goblins that popped up in the vicinity or inside the house. Without lights, it would have been the end of them.

But, the noise the generator made and the lights itself made them look like a lighthouse through the night attracting anyone or anything who can see the lights or hear their generator.

And it did attract some other monsters that looked far more dangerous than the goblins outside! Rick first saw these monsters coming in small groups and was flying too!

"Uh...Guys! Come look at this! There's... something coming!"

Nathan ran to the window facing the front yard where Rick was stationed. When he got there, Michael and the old man were already staring outside the house through the gaps between the planks. The three had serious looks on their faces.

"What is it? are the goblins moving again?"

"No, It's something else. Take a look"

The old man stepped away from the window to let Nathan pass through and take a peek outside the house. His eyes widened when he saw the cluster of eagle-like creatures currently sitting at the top of the walls like it was their perch. Some of them were even flying around the house like a shark circling its prey.

The creatures were at least a meter in height and their wingspan was almost 3 meters in length! They had jet black feathers, a pair of glowing green eyes, and a few inches long talon that looked really sharp. Nathan couldn't help but think that those talons can definitely pierce a human flesh like it was butter. Its beak was almost the same size as its talons and look as sharp as well. Each giant bird also has a white spot on their foreheads that glowed like a firefly's butt.

The goblins were nowhere to be seen. The usual pair of red orbs that were floating just outside the gates vanished like it was extinguished when the giant birds came.

The most frightening part about this whole situation is that the giant birds weren't doing anything at all! It was like they are just watching their prey and was waiting for them to see an opening to attack. Their gaze seemed to penetrate the wooden planks and stare straight at them as if they can actually see Nathan and the group!

"What do we do? should we kill them now?"

Michael asked in an agitated manner.

"No. We still don't know how many of them there actually are. It's best if we leave them there alone for the moment, plus, they deterred the goblins outside"

The old man said carefully as he examined the giant birds outside. The birds didn't look like they pose a threat at the moment which made them sigh in relief.

There's also another thing that caught the eyes of the four. A mist was slowly enveloping the ground like it has its own will. Although the mist was pretty thin, it still gave them the creeps nonetheless.

"Well, that's creepy. I lived all my life here, but I have never seen this kind of mist occurred even once"

Nathan said as he stared at the rapidly moving mist on the ground. It somehow reminded him of a certain movie.

"Yeah, me too. I wonder if that mist is also from where the goblins came from. How did the goblins even get teleported here?"

"No one can answer that, Michael. Well, at least for now. Surely the scientists will come up with something, right? Like how to prevent this...whatever is happening"

Rick said with an unsure voice. He still had the worried look on his face as he peeked outside.

"I don't know, man. This looks like something science can't easily explain."

Nathan answered Rick in a hushed tone. As they were talking, the mist finally made its way inside the house. It seeped through the gap in the bottom part of the door. Fortunately, the mist looked and felt harmless. They each breathed a sigh of relief.

After a few minutes, the mist enveloped the entire floor and already seeped out to the backyard. Seeing that nothing irregular happened, the old man spoke.

"Okay, go back to your positions now. We can't have goblins appearing on your positions while you're gone"

"Okay!"

"Yes...sir"

Nathan went back to the kitchen and sat on his chair that was facing the backdoor, on his left side was the refrigerator and on his left was the way to the living room.

Time passed by and it was already 3 in the morning. Nathan was so bored that he almost slept a few times, but he caught himself so he was able to make himself stay awake.

Then, a peculiar sound that came from the backyard awakened Nathan's sleepy mind. He can only make out the sound of groans and moans. It almost sounded like they are in pain.

This sent a chill down his spine. He remembered the people buried in the backyard. As much as he thought that it is impossible that it was them that was making the noise, all the weird stuff that has already happened today makes him think again.

Nathan can now clearly hear their footsteps and loud groans and moans. By the sound of it, they are actually moving towards the backdoor! Then, a knock echoed on the silent house.

KNOCK...KNOCK...KNOCK

The pause in between the knocks made all of his body hair stood up! He sprang up from his seat and stepped away while still facing the backdoor. It seems that the others also heard the knocking sound.

"Nathan! What was that sound?"

"shhh"

Nathan looked at Rick with his shaking eyes and pale face. He pointed at the backdoor. There were moving shadows that were coming from the outside that is being projected through the gap underneath the door.

"Goblins?"

"I don't know. It doesn't sound like it"

The two were conversing in a hushed tone. They were clearly afraid of being heard by the monsters outside. Then at this moment, a loud thud rang inside one of the rooms. It was where John who's still gravely injured were resting.

The old man who was close to the room was alerted. He thought that a goblin popped up inside the room, so he burst the door open. To his surprise, John was already standing on his two feet and the fact that there was no goblin relieved him for a bit.

The old man walked towards John to check on him.

"John, you shouldn't get up yet. You will strain your body"

As soon as he placed his rough hands on John's bare shoulder, he felt that John was abnormally cold. He pulled John to face him, but to his horror, John's eyes were all white! John's face was also pale as if he was already dead. This surprised the old man enabling John to lunge at him.

"Shit! John! What's happening to you!?"

The two fell down to the floor, John was on top of the old man pinning him down tightly. The old man tried punching and choking John, but it had no effect on him, it is as if John doesn't feel pain at all! The old man then tried to punch the wound, it still didn't do anything to John. It instead opened up the festering wound and sprayed blood all over the old man.

At this moment Nathan, Michael, and Rick had reached the source of the sound. They saw the gravely injured John who was pinning down the old man. They didn't know what to do! The old man saw them just staring at him blankly

"Kids, What the hell are you doing just standing there? Help me here!"

Nathan was the first one to move. He might be a coward sometimes, but if it comes to it, he will definitely fight! A strong push kick to his side caused John to fall to the other side, freeing the old man.

The old man got up quickly and pointed his pistol to John who was still struggling to get up. He looked like a drunkard that chugged more alcohol than he can handle. The three others were startled when the old man was about to fire his gun.

"Whoa! are you gonna kill him now, mister? Maybe he's just...shock from what happened to him"

The old man looked at Nathan with a puzzled expression on his face.

"He just tried to bite me! Something's wrong with him"

John finally got up. His face was deathly pale, his eyes were all white and his mouth was foaming red and was salivating too. He looked already dead.

Nathan and the others can't help but exclaim the same word.

"Zombie!"

"At this point, I'm not even going to argue with you kids"

The old man smiled ruefully to the three. He changed his mind when he thought about using a gun to kill zombie John.

"Michael, go get the baseball bat in my room. It should be inside the cabinet to the right of the bed."

Michael was as blank as ever. It looked like he didn't even hear what the old man said!

"Michael! Don't just stand there!"

"I...uh...ye-yes!"

Michael recovered from his stupor and quickly ran to the other room. The others shook their heads in unison. At the moment, zombie John was already walking towards the three. He was as fast as a snail, though.

The three decided to lock John inside the room while waiting for Michael. A few seconds later, Michael was already holding a used baseball bat. It looked like the bat wasn't taken care of at all.

"Give me that"

The old man grabbed the bat from Michael's hand. He held the bat high up, ready to swing at any moment. He knocked on the door to attract the zombie to the door.

Nathan was standing on the other side of the door ready to open it. His hand was already holding the knob and was only waiting for the old man's signal. A few moments later, the old man nodded to him. He opened the door promptly.

The door was wide open and so is John. The moment John stepped his foot outside, a perfect swing hit his face causing it to cave in.

SPLAT!

The sheer force and speed caused John to literally fly into the air and landed on his bed! All of them have their mouths wide open, especially the old man. He didn't know he's still got this much force in him! The bat even had cracks all over it like it just hit a wall.

"Holy shit, old man! That was amazing!"

Rick exclaimed as he stared at the cracked bat and John alternately.

"Huh? I didn't know I was this strong"

The old man actually felt his body become stronger as the day goes on. He thought maybe it was just the adrenaline rush, so he shrugged it off.

But it appears that his attack wasn't enough. John got up from the bed as if nothing happened! His face was still caved in, his teeth were falling off, his left eye was just hanging. His gruesome appearance made them grimace violently.

Seeing this, the old man sighed and said.

"Ehhh, fuck it"

BANG!

A loud gunshot echoed through the entire house. The bullet pierced John's forehead instantly killing him, for real this time.

THUD!

John fell flat to the floor. Then, another knocking sounds that came from the backdoor alerted the four. Nathan looked at them with a rueful smile on his face.

"The ones we buried might have turned too"

"Shit"

The three sighed exasperatedly.
