Lan Xiang smiled as he waved hello to the old vendor sitting on his carpet.
"Ah, it's you again." The old man grinned in response.
"Say, how much would it be... if I were to buy all of these books?" Lan Xiang's gaze sharpened.
"...What? All of them?" The old man's jaw dropped.
"Hypothetically speaking. What would be the price?"
"Well, it would be... 1020 dollars." The old man calculated with his fingers.
"Ah, then I'll take all of them." Lan Xiang sweeped all of the books with his storage ring.
He took out a 1000 dollar bill from the storage ring, and 20 from his own pocket so that he didn't need to receive change anymore.
With the old man frozen and shocked, Lan Xiang placed his money on the carpet and left the scene gracefully.
"Eh, why did you buy all of those techniques?" Lan Xiang's actions confused Lu Xifa. "Are you hoping to get lucky again like last time and sell them to strangers?"
"No, these are all mine." Lan Xiang shrugged. He couldn't possibly tell Lu Xifa about the existence of his system.
"Huh? Isn't it better to focus yourself on one technique? Moreover, most of these will be white level techniques, right? They will be worthless, you're more likely to find good techniques attending an auction. Better yet, why don't you just enter your family's library?"
Because Lan Xiang was engaged to her cousin, Lu Xifa assumed that he must be some young master of a big family. Based on his surname, she guessed that it would be the Lan family.
She had no knowledge of it as no one in the country knew who Xie Jian's fiancé was. Matter of fact, none knew that she was even engaged, resulting in all of these confessions towards her.
"My family's library, huh..." Lan Xiang smiled wryly. The chance of me getting in the library is probably lower than winning the lottery twice in a row.
His body was incompatible with cultivation, meaning that his pathways were more convoluted and were thinner than most. As such, his father, Lan Feiluo had forbidden him to visit the library.
If he was to barge in and cultivate anyway, he would end up like his cousin Lan Zhou, in the hospital.
Although, for some reason, in Lan Hailu's story, Lan Zhou was much stronger than her.
Lan Xiang had to find out the root of his sudden increase in strength. For now, he shrugged it off. He would find out soon in the tournament.
"Never mind that, tell me more about the auction."
"The auction?" Lu Xifa didn't think that he would choose the auction. She only said that in passing. "Hm, let's go then."
"What? Right now?" Lan Xiang followed Lu Xifa to the alleyway.
"Why not?" With a playful smile, she opened up a rift. "Let's just jump into it!"
Lan Xiang shrugged and tailed after Lu Xifa, jumping in as well.
"Ah, where are we this time?"
The room was dark and dusty, and the floor seemed to be made of wood judging by the creak it made when Lan Xiang landed on it. He activated his All-seeing Eye, enabling him to see in the darkness.
Crates were scattered across the whole room. Inside one of the crates were racks of bottles containing one pill each. Another had some sort of artifact inside, the engravings on its surface full of runes and mysterious markings he couldn't comprehend. The other crates had a variety of other stuff that he couldn't even begin to describe.
"Xifa, why are we in some sort of storage room? Where are we?"
"We're in..."
The door opened, light bursting through the new opening. Lan Xiang and Lu Xifa squinted their eyes, their irises contracting.
"Hm? Who are you people..."
"Crap, we got spotted." Lu Xifa opened a rift right below both of them.
"Huh? Where'd they go?" The worker scratched his head. "The heat is making me imagine things..."
Lan Xiang readjusted himself after falling through the rift. "We're back in your room?"
"Let's wait it out until that guy leaves."
"That guy? You mean the guy that entered the room we were in. Speaking of, where was that?"
"Ah, that was the Ning Auction House's storage room."
"!!!" Lan Xiang widened his eyes. "The Ning family's auction house? You can just barge into there?"
"Of course. Who do you think I am?" Lu Xifa flipped her hair backwards.
"If you can just enter there willy-nilly, are you stealing from the Ning family?"
Lu Xifa merely whistled a cheery melody in response.
"..." Lan Xiang. "But how did you get in there in the first place?"
"Simple. Trial and error, baby." Lu Xifa winked.
"I sneaked into the auction house, and when they caught me, I memorized the layout of the location, then I just teleported back to my room. After some time, I came back and went in further. This way, I slowly made progress till I made it into the storage room."
"Isn't that tiring? Wouldn't that drain your qi?"
"Don't worry. With more than a thousand years of optimization, the technique uses a lot less qi than you think. Besides, I did this over the course of several days."
"Ah... your technique is overpowered."
Lu Xifa felt proud as she displayed a snarky grin.
Lan Xiang wanted to learn it as well. However, the technique was gold level, and it had a very slow average practicing speed. His entire lifespan wouldn't be enough to even reach the first level of mastery on this technique.
He contemplated. This would have been the case for pill refining as well, were it not for Old Man Xie's notes...
"Wait, Xifa. Tell me. Do you have, um, notes on this technique?"
"What do you mean by notes?" Lu Xifa didn't get it.
"Any kind of notes, based on the Spatial Distortion Technique."
"Well, I guess I did make a few notes to myself when I just started practicing this technique..."
"Show me, please!" Lan Xiang's enthusiasm shot through the roof.
"Um, but..."
"Come on, please? Even if it's just for a second."
Lu Xifa hesitated.
Even though it was merely her notes about it, Spatial Distortion was still a Lu family secret. She would only disclose it to her closest friends, and even then, she wouldn't show them the actual book.
Besides, she was obsessed with drawing back then, and her notes were filled with scribbles... of anime ikemen boys with very large eyes! (Main Reason)
When she took another glance at Lan Xiang's pleading eyes, she couldn't help but blush.
"Um, I mean, what do you need my notes for?"
"For research."
"Huh?" Lu Xifa was even more confused. For research? What kind of stupid research requires my notes?
Taking another glance at Lan Xiang's serious expression that screamed "I need it for research," Lu Xifa gave in.
"Fine. But you can only look at it for one second, okay?"
Lu Xifa headed for her closet filled with clothes, and also items she didn't use anymore but didn't want to throw away.
Lan Xiang caught a glance at the clothes inside and saw... anime costumes??
"You cosplay?"
Lu Xifa froze before she suddenly shut the closet, leaving Lan Xiang waiting in her room by himself.
After a few seconds, Lu Xifa came back, holding an old and worn out notebook.
Lan Xiang excitedly took it.

"So you do cosplay."
"Shut up!"
