Chapter 2 The Contract

"What is it that is so important that you trouble me so early in the morning huh?" Vee ask Josh while stealing glances at Adam.

"I'll tell you later and you are so gonna love it", Josh exclaimed with excitement looking at her while making puppy eyes.

"Stop that Joshua! because I'm soooo not interested", Vee said showing no interest and make herself busy taking down notes instead.

"It's about my birthday you bitch!", Josh whispered stressing that he's upset.

"Your birthday? That is like two weeks from now you asshole!, we still have plenty of time for that", Vee said and still not showing any interest.

"Vee, look I plan on celebrating my birthday out of town, something like an adventure party in an island or cruising in the middle of the ocean or camping in the mountain. I haven't decided what would be the concept that's why you will be helping me because you know this will be my last birthday in high school. We will be graduating this year and I will make sure this is going to be the best birthday adventure ever", Josh said trying to look jolly.

"Alright! alright! I know, but no one is meeting in the barracks and no one is cutting classes after this one. I have plans after this class so we'll talk in the phone", says Vee firmly.

"You know that we will be terminating our contract on my birthday right", Josh said seriously with no emotion.

Vee looked directly in his eyes and she don't know why nothing comes out of her mouth. She knew that its gonna end but she just did not realise its gonna be very soon.

"Don't tell me you forgot or you don't want to end it", Josh teased Vee and trying to conceal his emotion.

She blushed. "What!? No! of course I remember you idiot! And No I don't want to", Vee said unknowingly she raised her voice.

The whole class turned to them and Mrs. Everdeen looked at them and pointing at the door and said, "If you have something to talk about love birds, go outside of my classroom and don't let me see your faces ever again."

Josh get his bag, stood up and look around smiling as if he was like Channing Tatum smiling to his fans and bowed to their teacher, "Thank you Mrs. Everdeen", he said then scram out of the room.

Vee was like nailed on her chair and everyone is anticipating her response. She clears her throat and compose herself trying to be emotionless, she stood up slowly and said, "First of all I am paying for this class Mrs. Everdeen, I'm sorry but I'm not going out. Second and most importantly, Josh and I are not lovebirds." She tried so hard to be firm in her voice.

She is supposed to exit in moments like this, but she thickened her face to avoid Joshua for now. Her angelic and innocent looking face did not escape from those judgmental eyes of her classmates especially Alicia's gals.

Everyone knows Joshua is her best friend, and everyone also knows that Alicia is Joshua's super clingy girlfriend. But nobody really knows the secret behind their relationship.

For three years, they tried so hard to keep it hidden. They are in a contracted relationship bound with so many rules. It started three years ago in their barracks one day an incident changed their relationship from best friends to a very complicated relationship in contact.

Joshua is a good actor I could say. Afterall these years he managed to be the king of the campus and now the boyfriend of Alicia McIntosh, the gymnast champion and the campus slut Queen. Well Alicia is just one of his bitchy girlfriends, he had countless relationships with those campus sluts who are so bully.

There's Jennifer, the dancer and the campus slut queen first runner up. Then there's Maureen, the super-rich brat and is Alicia's best friend. And there's Abigail the cheerleader who is the sworn enemy of Alicia and believes that the crown is still on her. She was Joshua's ex-girlfriend by the way prior to Alicia. And there's more, from freshmen to seniors, he is a real asshole when it comes to women.

Veronica on the other hand, maintained her student status as a nobody in school because she's scared that somebody will notice her, and her secret will be uncovered. Although she's maintained her distance socially from those aristocrats and all groups of social climbers, she never once tolerated a bully, so nobody picks on her.

She excels in academics and she is a volleyball player though she's just a bencher every game. She is tall and slender and with her simple make-up she is evidently beautiful.

Three years ago, her parents went to Singapore for an annual pastoral conference. Her father is a full-time lead pastor in their community baptist church and her mother is also leading a nonprofit organisation founded by the church's ministry. Both her parents are conservative Christian believers. That time their granny was left to look after them with her two younger siblings, Pete which is eight years old at that time and Rachel which is five years old. She told her granny that she will be at Joshua's place for a homework. Her granny never minds her since they were used to it already, after all Joshua is like a grandson to her.

But who would have thought it would happen? They were both young and vigorous overwhelmed by curiosity, tempted and were influenced by the lewdness of the video they were watching. After the incident, there was a deafening silence in the room.

"Are you alright? Are you mad? We are still best friends, right? Vee?", Joshua finally broke the silence after a couple of minutes. He seemed a bit flustered.

"I know you don't like me as a man but I promise I'm going to take responsibility, please don't hate me, it was my fault", Joshua can't hide his fear that their relationship will be ruined and that she's going to hate him forever.

She looked at him blankly and still couldn't process everything that he was saying. She has a lot going on in her mind right now and everything happened very fast.

"Vee, I'm going to right it down as a promise and a pledge that I will take full responsibility. It will serve as our contract. Just tell me what to do", he asked as she still remained silent.

"Please never tell anyone, ever", all she could have courage to say.

Joshua kind of expects her to say that but still he doesn't know why he is disappointed. He knew very well that Vee had a crush on Hans, one of his friends. "Sure, it is going to be our contract rule number one. KEEP IT SECRET", he said reluctantly.
