Thirty (2) FINALE

Even if it's like a moth drawn to flame

I'll bravely endure the pain, deeply loving you

Even if there's no possibility

And hearts are unable to relate

Then longing will stitch together the moon's light with tears

Falling in love with you in that moment

Maybe nothing will happen

I'm still dedicated to you with no regrets

PART TWO

Everything had been so mystical, like a dream. Apart from the pain, it had been a happy and sweet dream.

She was happy to be loved and to have loved. The last of her tears rolled down from her closed eyes as she felt her consciousness drifting away.. and she breathed the last of her mortal breath. Her mortal life had finally ended due to suffocation (Asphyxia), due to an inadequate supply of oxygen.

The last image that appeared in her mind before she blacked out had been that of Lyrid, gradually changing to that of the purple-robed god, picking her up and carrying her in his embrace.

And with that, her mortal trial had ended.

Dijun gently caressed her face, moving his nimble fingers across her dainty cheeks and planting a kiss on her forehead. All of a sudden, her birthmark glowed and she began to breathe once more. He observed how her aura was changing steadily, and right now, she was a High Goddess.

She had ascended.

Taichen Palace, Sky Kingdom

When Fengjiu opened her eyes, the first she saw was Wenchang's face as he lay beside her in deep slumber. She was lying on his right arm and his other arm was wound around her waist, in such a close proximity that their bodies were almost pasted to each other. Where could she be? She thought while puzzled, but then she recognised the walls of the room to be that of her guest room back in Taichen Palace where Lord Wenchang had assigned to her. Apparently, she was back in the Sky Kingdom.

He was Wenchang, despite how he resembled Donghua's face in every angle and aspect, she reminded herself. As he slept soundlessly, she was tempted to lightly touch his nose, and then play with his soft and silky locks. She thought to herself, had she not fallen for Donghua first, she would probably develop feelings for Wenchang given his kindness and immeasurable love for her, even if he didn't resemble Donghua. Maybe she was just too selfish, but in her heart, she only had ample space to allow herself to love Donghua, albeit what Wenchang had done for her all those years.

She remembered. Just before her fall down the Immortal Punishment Platform, she survived due to Wenchang's embrace, and he was the one who had taken the blow for her while dressed in a red ceremonial marriage robe, and now, she retained her memories of how Wenchang had, as Lyrid, accompanied her in the mortal world to ensure that she would return safely. She could, only, offer him her companionship but sadly, not her heart or her feelings.

He was just too close to her right now. She didn't feel comfortable about it, and so she tried to remove her arm from around her waist so that she may get up from bed. Unknown to her, the god was merely pretending to be asleep, and instead pulled her closer in his embrace. This continued for a few more moments, and the more she attempted to push his body from hers, the more he would embrace her tightly. He popped one eye open and smiled coldly to gloat on her reaction as she struggled to free herself.

Infuriated, Fengjiu threw a punch on his chest, before pinching him on the same spot. He grabbed her hand to stop her, and whispered in a nonchalant voice that she should rest more, and that he is still very sleepy. Then he switched to a tender tone, "just lie down and sleep for a while for once." He then placed his head on her shoulder. As much as she wanted to kick him at that moment, she knew it was fruitless so just responded by pulling a long face at him.

.....................................

The next day, as they were having tea with Siming together at the pavilion, Fengjiu learnt from Siming that following her mortal trial, it was mentioned in her fate scroll that she had died at 24 years old from suffocating during the forest fire. However, due to inability to locate her mortal body, she had been declared to be missing in Samsara. In addition, Mt. Sierra was now a protected area by the government for the conservation of wildlife and regional plants. Recalling how the Big Dipper constellation was very well-known in astronomy, Fengjiu teased Siming about how popular he was in the mortal world. He blushed instantaneously, but then, his gaze met that of Dijun. Realising that Dijun was staring daggers at him, he shivered in fear and quickly retreated on the excuse that he had some duties to perform. Before he departed with a bow, Chong Lin arrived with a large picnic basket and greeted them formally. Fengjiu was curious at why two immortals were so formal to Wenchang, who had been a very modest lord of Taichen Palace.

With a tap of his fingers, Dijun put away the basket and tea set, and beckoned for Fengjiu to come with him, and she complied due to her inquisitiveness.

As they walked past Liansong and Cheng Yu while leaving the palace grounds, the couple was overwhelmed that Fengjiu and Wenchang were finally together. Teasingly, Liansong suggested to Cheng Yu that they should be enjoying themselves on their date in viewing flowers at the Sky Kingdom. They were destined for each other, and as much as they quarreled over trivial matters, this was a time for them to enjoy each other's company. Furthermore, Fengjiu was all right and had returned, after all.

While seated in the fairy boat crossing the blue sea (Bihai Cangling), Fengjiu had been so much like a child happily pointing out flying birds, dragon flies, butterflies, beautiful flowers and different things that appealed to her during their trip. Though it was her fourth time inquiring where they would be heading to, Dijun did not answer her, and after a few minutes, he pointed towards an island-like place, dominated by a purple colour from afar.

Bihai Cangling.

Upon alighting from the boat, Fengjiu instantaneously ran towards the falling petals of the blossom tree. Similarly to Zhe Yan's Ten Mile of Peach Blossoms Orchard, this place had been so majestic and magnificent in her eyes. In contrast to Zhe Yan's orchard, she could not decide which place was more beautiful, since both places had their own distinctive beauty to offer. Dijun merely watched as she roamed around the area and played on her own like a curious little child, smiling to himself.

"Do you like this place?" Dijun asked Fengjiu, who nodded earnestly in response.

"What do you think about living here, alternatively with Taichen Palace and Qingqiu?" he asked. Fengjiu knew that he was referring to their marriage, and she silently contemplated her decision. After a few minutes, she brushed her thoughts aside and asked curiously if he owns the place, observing that he appeared to be familiar with its surroundings. With a nod, Dijun answered her that he was born there and the name of the place was Bihai Cangling.

The birth place of Donghua Dijun, Bihai Cangling? Was it a mere coincidence? Fengjiu couldn't believe her ears. As a cub, she had idolised Donghua Dijun and had collected every document from the Heavens to the netherworld in relation to information about Donghua Dijun. She had long heard of the majestic place and its legendary beauty, but was amazed to realise that she would have the opportunity to finally set foot on it. Compared to anyone else, she was extremely knowledgable on the place itself.

She recalled that while Lord Wenchang was the new lord of Taichen Palace, he had been unable to access the sleeping chamber that belonged exclusively to Donghua Dijun. Moreover, this place should belong to Donghua Dijun, and not him. Confusedly she inquired Wenchang on this. Being attentive to the look of puzzlement in her eyes, Dijun merely coughed and approached her more closely. Gazing deeply into her eyes, he answered with one sentence "because at that time in Taichen Palace, my memories were sealed". She appeared to be even more perplexed with his reply. Embracing her tenderly, Dijun teleported them into an old mansion built in the style and taste of the Song dynasty. They entered a room, and one look at the ceiling, walls and decor of that room, in addition to each of the furniture and fittings present, told her the exact truth: it was a replica of the bedroom that she had stayed in while she was in the body of Consort Cheng while Donghua was on his mortal trial.

His cold and yet, distinct voice greeted her. "Jiu'er, I preserved everything for you and transferred your mortal home in the Song Dynasty to Bihai Cangling. Do you remember it? I'm also arranging to do the same with our laboratory..."

Her tears flowed down from her eyes in her joy as she realised who he really was, especially how he called her Jiu'er. Her beloved Donghua had returned. But wasn't he Wenchang Dijun? She analysed the facts and recalled albeit how Wenchang had the audacity to bully and tease her, he would have never dared to impersonate Donghua Dijun, the master of the universe and the former emperor of the Heavens. She quickly brushed away her tears and scolded Wenchang, saying that if this is one of his jokes, she would never forgive him ever for the rest of his immortal life. In a flash, Dijun swept her into his arms ceremoniously and gave her an otherworldly kiss, a kiss she would never forget, through her immortal life.

The vigor and sensuality of his kiss had reminded her of how he had kissed her prior to the calamity, and in the same way, how the Song emperor had kissed Consort Chen. It was unmistakable that he was Donghua: even his luscious lips had tasted so indifferently. The kiss continued for several long minutes, and she lay in his arms for a long time, reminiscing each moment between her and Donghua.

She heard his stoic voice, undoubtedly that of Donghua's, ask her how he could make her believe that he is also Wenchang. Fengjiu cuddled him and asked him if he was mad at her for not recognising him earlier. He remained silent instead of answering her question, while continuing to gaze at her. Suddenly recalling the events in the mortal world, Fengjiu indignantly said with a long face, that he should forgive her as she is miffed at him for choosing Cassandra over her back in Samsara, and he just simply left her with flowers and a goodbye note. She crossed her arms around her chest with a super-annoyed look, and declared that she detested him a lot because of that incident, but should he beg for her forgiveness now, she would consider them even.

"That was not a goodbye note," Dijun stated, and Fengjiu looked at him in surprise. He demanded if she had read the entire card from him, and she insisted that she had. With a tap of his fingers, Dijun caused the card to materialise between his index and middle finger. She recognised the message from Lyrid, "Sorry I have to leave, I always love you" and then, she was thrown aback when Dijun flipped the card to reveal the message written on the other side of the card, "Once I came back, I will fulfil my promise in making you my Empress". Snatching the card, Fengjiu insisted obstinately there was no message on the other side of the card when she received it, and Dijun told her solemnly that he remembered it very clearly since he was the one who wrote the message on the card himself.

He looked dismayed as he smacked Fengjiu on her forehead, sighing deeply that she didn't read his message properly and averting her gaze. Fengjiu hastily embraced him tightly, and told him that since he promised to make her his empress, he should fulfil that promise. Alluringly from her natural fox charm, she winked and added, "I'm willing to make it up to you after that happens." Seeing how she was teasing him, Dijun smiled and asked her if she really wished to be his empress, and she answered with a simple 'yes'. Spinning her around to face him, he flicked his fingers and in a flash, they were both dressed in embroidered ceremonial wedding robes, complete with exquisite stones. She realised that they were wearing the wedding robes granted to her and Wenchang for their impending marriage. "Let's get married now, then," he told her teasingly, and she nodded. By the next day, they would visit Goddess Nuwa to formally register their marriage.

He placed a red veil on her head like the one she was wearing when the Song Emperor had re-married her in the mortal realm, and they bowed to the realms and made their vows to be together in all lifetimes and all eternity. Fengjiu picked on him by saying that since he was once the ruler of the Heavens and Earth, why was he required to make obeisance to them now. He cupped her cheeks in his hands, and tauntingly said, "To make sure that, in the future, if you back out on your promise to be with me all your life, I have a witness." She objected, insisting that all her life, she had only loved him, and no other person. "Let's see," he said, and carried her in his arms before placing under the blossom tree. Next, she felt the full blast of his invigorating kisses.

She panted furiously as his kisses increased in intensity, and caused her to writhe in desire as his touch sent sensual waves all over her body. The inevitable was about to happen, as it had happened before, and since she had promised, she was going to make up for the time that they had lost. She felt the chill of the cold breeze blowing against her exposed body as her robes opened by themselves. Knowing Dijun, it was not going to be an early night for the two of them.

Fengjiu closed her eyes and welcomed their moment of intimacy as their bodies came together as one, and this time, their union would be for eternity. Her last words to Dijun before they retired for the night had been, "I am still confused what should I call you, Lord Wenchang or Dijun."

Dijun looked at her crossly and stated that none of the two was acceptable, and demanded she call him Lord Husband (Fujun, Jun means lord in Chinese. Fu means husband, and in modern day Chinese husband is read as zhang fu).

........................................

The Next Morning.

They had been occupied with kissing each other that they lost count of time, as they lay together under the sheets they were both thinking of the possible bright future waiting for them. Contrary to before, now their minds were eased from any possible calamity that would befall before them.

With regards to their union, Bai Fengjiu and Wen Chang Dijun's union was a MARRIAGE PREDESTINED BY HEAVEN and had been gained by overcoming their FATED CALAMITY. But the actuality that he was no other than Donghua with his memories sealed, would leave others in awe about their fate, and admire their love which would continue for eons after their marriage.
