Chapter 1: Breaking the wall

Anime, it always had been something that had been a great source of entertainment for Elise von Eisenberg. Born and raised in a small rural town in Belgium, Elise often found herself spending time enjoying the various stories that anime and manga tended to provide. Whether it was because of her lack of interest in socializing, or her inexperience with it, the young lady clearly preferred to spend the day at home rather than going out and having fun like many her age would do. Indeed, even if she was already at the age of adulthood and one would consider thinking of the future, for example finding a job and building a career, Elise was more of a dreamer. For example, her fondness for stories and anime had inspired her to become a mangaka someday. Yet at the same time, her lack of drawing skills made that ambition almost a dream, one worth pursuing and yet so hard to reach.

And yet little could have prepared her for what was to come. The doorbell rung repeatedly, a clear sign of impatience from whoever was on the other side, and her parents were out for the day, so it was up to her to answer the door, not that it would take long for her to get there since she guessed already that it was the mailman, who had come to deliver the latest video game she had ordered. It was a very famous fantasy RPG, at least her friends on the internet all praised the storyline immensely.

While Elise reached the door and opened it, she was greeted by quite an enigmatic figure. She had expected a mailman, but instead, it was a tall man, clad in some fancy tuxedo and a top-hat, even the cape made her think it might have been some sort of magician! The man himself seemed middle-aged, although he had wrinkles around his eyes and his hair and beard seemed grey, he carried himself with confidence and vigor that could even match athletes in their prime.

"A package for Miss Eisenberg?" Elise nodded her head attentively, the man's masculine voice quickly drawing her attention back to reality as she answered him. "That's me..." A hint of confusion in her tone, the girl looked at the package yet found herself unable to open it just yet, for the man spoke once more. "Remember: Every story, no matter how small or insignificant it might seem, deserves to be told. And it is your responsibility to see it through."

As her hands had opened the package to peek inside, she saw that just as expected the wrapped game was inside it, yet the moment she lifted her gaze, it seemed the man had disappeared! Even looking around seemed to show no sign of the man's presence.

"Weird..." Muttering softly Elise closed the door behind her and did something every true gamer would have done: Ripped open the wrapping around her game, ignored the manual, and placed the disk inside her console. It took a few moments for the television to stir to life, displaying the game's opening screen.

Idly she pressed the advance button on her controller, watching as the introduction started to play. So far it seemed like a classic story of a hero who was trying to vanquish the villain of the story, although oddly enough it seemed that according to the introduction he had failed so many times that at this time he seemed less of a protagonist and more of a comedy supportive character! Still, the graphics seemed quite vivid, and yet a part of her couldn't help but wonder when the game would finally start to show some action! Surely there was a battle system?

However, it was at the moment the knight proclaimed that he would defeat the Overlord once and for all with the help of a powerful artifact, that Elise sat at the edge of her seat, expecting an intense boss battle to begin right from the start! But it never came...

Instead a bright flash of light, almost akin to being blinded by a flashbang made Elise recoil into her seat as she cursed inwardly whatever programmer thought it might have been a fun idea to turn on the brightness to such an insane level, but it was at that point a sudden force knocked her straight off her seat and right onto her back on the ground!

"Gah!" Letting out a pained gasp as she fell onto the floor Elise suddenly felt something soft... a light pleasant pressure that pressed against her small chest, and blinking in bewilderment as her eyes started to adjust she noticed something most peculiar: she was no longer alone in her room! No, instead a slender build woman with a dark tanned skin looked down upon her. "How peculiar... this doesn't seem to be my throne room." The woman mused softly as Elise shook her head violently. "No, it's not, this is my bedroom!"

The woman, who by now was straddling her looked around, clearly interested in her surroundings. "Fascinating, this place looks a lot different than anything I have seen before-" Watching the intruder get back onto her feet and turn around to face the large television screen, the first thing Elise noticed was that this mysterious intruder had long pointed ears, like an elf, and that she resembled a certain--- o no way-

"What type of spell are you using to look into my throne room without my awareness?" Elise quickly scooped up the manual of the video game, and just as she feared, in the character description there was clearly a picture that matched that of the woman in front of her.

"W-why in the world did you pop out of my television screen?!" Elise's exclamation earned a carefree shrug from the Overlord who turned toward her and stated calmly. "I have no idea what a television is, but this works out perfectly." Elise tilted her head slightly, not entirely sure how in the world anything about this could be considered to work out as intended, but nonetheless, she decided to ask. "What do you mean?"

The Overlord started to wander over to Elise's bed and flopped down on the edge of it, explaining with a yawn that was stifled behind her hand. "I have spent years dealing with wanna-be heroes their attempts to defeat me, now that they can no longer do that, I can finally take a nap."

Elise nodded her head quietly in agreement, that did sound like quite a hassle, the type of nuisance that would make anyone tired, and naps were nice to have but... "Umm, where are you going to sleep?" But it seemed Aundra had already chosen her spot, for she started to lie down sideways on the bed, stifling another yawn. "Right here~"

Elise started to shake her head in denial to that idea, to the point her face was even turning red. "No you don't! Disregarding the fact that there is another woman going to be sleeping in my bed, which is going to be a headache to explain to my parents, said woman is also from a video game?!"

Yet no response came from the Overlord who was already seemingly drifting off into slumber. Elise looked from the video game screen to the sleeping dark elf and groaned audibly. "How in the world am I supposed to make any sense of this?"

So the villain of a video game was now sleeping in her bed... Surely, things couldn't get any weirder, right?
