Chapter 13

Awoken by Shang, he looked what was ahead of him. It was a thatched house painted with white chalk, surrounded by colored stones in some kind of formation. He didn't get any halcyon feel since he was a modern person since his birth but he could somehow understand the feeling. He followed behind Shang into the quaint little home and was taken back by its simplistic style of it and tried and hard as he can not to disturb it as he sat into the chair. The chair itself had no where to relax ad it felt a bit stiff but he had gotten used to this kind of style in the time he spent on this world. He tried to relax in the only way he knows how to, by placing his elbows on his thighs but he changed his posture to an upright one seeing the look Shang gave him.

Normally he would have ignored it but he always felt nervous whenever he was around hang Fei, maybe that was because he was the most mature person he's met since his trasnmigration. Shang also responded by sittig upright across from him and started to talk.

"You should know that I brought you here ot because I pitted your life with Shi."

"Yes."

"Then I will tell you why. I had noticed that you were strange from the start and left you with Ling Shi to watch you closely. Of course, he probably forgot about it halfway through the year but I wanted to confirm that you aren't a spy from the nearby cities and I have verified that. I don't know your circumstances but letting you waste your youth in that village essentially doing nothing is beneath me therefore, I finally decided to bring you into the city to look for a job and here are your options. You can either work on this manor where you are guaranteed to get a job under my recommendation or go out and search yourself one. Of course, you would have to tell me your useful skills then I refer you to one but everything would be on you. So what do you choose?"

Viewing the options infront of him, of course the best choice was to remain in the manor working. As for him taking care of his housing and taxes and living like a commoner, that was beyond him. Therefore he choose the former. A grin somehow appeared on Shang Fei seeing his choice and he immediately grabbed his hand and went to what Jerry would assume was human resources. A stereotypical fat man with gold chains around his neck was stamping some scrolls under a tent while scantily dressed women where waving banana leaves at him. They seemed to be fanning him amidst the hot weather and it created a scene exuding arrogance and corrupt nobility.

The fat man first looked at the youth obstructing the sun in disdain and was about to wave his hand in a shooing motion until he looked at the man standing behind the youth. As if being struck by lightning, the fat man stood up suddenly and turned to glare at the women cooling him, scaring him away. What followed was a beaming smile on his face like the setting sun.

"Elder Shang, sorry I didn't realize you were coming today otherwise I would prepared a grand welcome for you. The only thing I can give you is this ocean lizard meat that was brought in yesterday."

Out of nowhere, the fat man waved his hand and table appeared in the space between Shang and the fat man. On it were a big piece of glistening meat, succulent plump shrimp, deliciously sautéed in crunchy chili flakes and paired with a zesty, crunchy salad of mushrooms, cucumber and sweet corn on the side. The golden shine on the beautifully cut steak made it even more tempting but Jerry held it in and his his expression.

"I didn't come to ear so put away your food."

As soon as the fat man heard those words, he waved his hands again and the table disappeared. At that moment, two people felt sad at the same time and then hid their expressions and no one would ever know who.

"I brought this kid with me from the village down the mountain and he needs a job in the manor, just give me face and let him have a simple job since it's his first time coming to the town and he is not used to the tough environment in the city."

Hearing those words, Jerry almost couldn't believe himself and held in amazed expression with all his willpower. He failed to accept that Shang asked people to give him face. He thought that only existed in web novels he read back on Earth and the fact that he heard them in person was like meeting his fans in real life. Of courser these fantasies lasted for a few seconds until the fat man looked at him like he was an idiot and he nervously chuckled.

The fat man turned from the kid and continued talking to Shang. As he was discussing, he occasionally looked at Jerry and shook his head. Other times he had an unwilling look. Seeing all this, Jerry felt annoyed for some reason, like the fat man was looking down on him. After a long period of discussion, Shang called Jerry over.

"Remember, from now on this will be elder brother Wu Yue, he will be your immediate supervisor in your new job where you will be a shepherd. It seems you will get a job similar to mine. So make sure you don't mess up and lose my face."

Jerry nodded his head like a pecking chicken and felt relief in his heart. He said his goodbyes to Shang Fei and followed Wu Yue to his new dormitory. As he moved to his new home, the anticipation his heart couldn't help but break out as as impish grin grew on his face.
