Chapter 10

*Flash* "What's with this light?!", the scroll flashes so brightly that it's almost blinding.

"God! That was too bright. I might just go blind from only seeing that light flash again." I rub my eyes and look at the scroll in surprise.

"Whoa!" My jaws just drop when I see what's in front of me. "It really is before me."

It appeared at last. The portal.

Connecting a world I don't know to my current world, Earth. This is phenomenal.

I can see a glowing ring with the symbols that were on the scroll revolving around it and the ring seems to be floating. I move my hand under the ring to see if there was any trickery on keeping this ring floating.

"Wow" it is genuinely floating on its own. I knew that but, affirming it made it seem more believable.

I notice something. I put my hand on the desk, "It's gone" Both the scroll and the crystal disappeared into thin air it seems. Unbelievable.

This is a lot to take in. *Inhale* I take a deep breath, "Phew" I exhale, "To know that real magic does exist in this world, the people just might go bonkers after finding it out. It really is best if it stayed out of people's reach." I look the portal again.

There it is. The other world. I can see the fields and beautiful sky of that world.

I really am leaving huh. Damn. I mean it's not late, for me to turn back on this chance but...

This is my destiny. Following my family's footsteps and I find myself being fulfilled by making my family proud. Their efforts will not be in vein.

I have to do something before leaving though. Great grandfather told to light the lantern before going through the portal.

I need to find a matchbox. If any of the people accidentally found out about the books and got a hold of it, things could get dirty. People change over the years, it's inevitable. That's why we need to take precautions. I look inside drawers and find a matchbox.

One matchstick. That is all I need to burn down my family's legacy, their hard works....their existence. This is quite a decision. I pull out a matchstick.

I slide it and it lights up. I gently open the lantern on the wall and light it. It lights up brightly. "Now I need to hurry" I smell the smoke that seems to be coming from downstairs. The library is really burning down. I put everything in the suitcase and take it in hand. 11:56pm of Christmas Eve, I'm leaving.

I look back the door, *sigh* "Goodbye, Earth" I jump into the portal. I turn back and see the portal closing behind me, "Really no turning back ,huh?"

I keep falling, though I saw where I was going to be this portal is warping me through what it seems like an endless tunnel. I just keep falling. I don't feel anything, no pain, no gravity, no sorrow.

I am truly happy. "I did it. I did it mom and dad" the colours around me are flashing and is giving me quite a headache. I am tired for some reason. That's odd, I was feeling quite energetic just before I came into the portal and all of a sudden I am this tired? It's weird what this portal does to your head. I feel drowsy. Maybe I should close my eyes..... That might fix this problem....yeah...tha....shou....

Where am I? Why is this place pitch black? I can't see anything. Are my eyes closed? I must have fallen asleep.

I try to open my eyes. No success. They feel too heavy and my body just want to lie here. This place feels so soft, is this grass? I can hear someone breathing.... It's me breathing. What happened after I went through the portal? "I...mmm" I must wake up and reach the other world.

"He's saying something" Oh. Who is saying something?

.......... Wait! That is not my voice. Who said that? Who is beside me? I open my eyes.

"He's up"

"Aargh!!" I was scared to see someone's face up close. I rub my eyes off the drowsiness I was feeling. I look at the person who was saying things earlier, it seems to be a boy in his early 20s.

"?" He seems to be confused. I should be the one to be confused.

"Can you tell me where I am?" I ask the young lad.

"Oh well, of course. You are in ciciona village near kachika town." He looks and smiles at me after he said that.

Honestly, I don't know what I was expecting to be told when I asked that stupid question. It's not like I know these places. I put my hand on my face and let out a big sigh.

"Are you okay, mister?" The lad asks.

"Yeah. I just fell asleep here on this..." I touch to feel where I am. Grass, I am sitting on a wide grassy plain.

"It seems like you aren't from here" the kid says.

"Yeah I am not from here. I uh...." Come up with something....."I umm..I am travelling and I stumbled upon this place. Seeing how cozy this place was I sat here." There we go, a good reason.

"Oh. I see" the lad answers.

I notice the lad carrying a sword with him, "What are you doing with a weapon?" I need to be cautious of everyone in this new world.

"Oh this?" He takes out the sword and shows it to me, "my grandpa made this and he wanted me to have it since I go on quests."

"Quests?" I am surprised to hear that word.

"Yeah. I need to get the rewards to earn more money and my grandpa made this so that I can be safe" The young lad seems to love the sword.

"May I see the sword?" He gives it to me. He's trusting me awfully too much even though I have just met him. What a nice young lad.

I observe the sword. It has cracks and scratches on it. It has definitely been used many times and it is not made into perfection, which makes it vulnerable to breaking faster than expected.

"Take me to your village"
