Romanoff Dukedom: The Heroine (8)

There was an uproar inside Herkel's room.

The main physician of the Romanoff Dukedom brought with them a handful of assistants. Added to that crowd were the servants that the Duke of Avret sent to take care of Herkel's needs.

As such, the members of the Valk League were driven to a corner to maintain their peace. They were all quiet, letting the professionals tend to Herkel's worsening condition.

Since the Duchess of Romanoff's tea party was only hours away, the matter with Herkel should be kept under the wraps. Ulysses, Igor, Aaviren, and Fluger took note of all the countenances of the people who were currently inside the room.

If there were incidents of information leaking out, they would be the first ones who would be interrogated.

Ius leaned back on the couch and closed his eyes. The ruckus of the people around him only made the young man irritated. He kept on tapping his foot on the ground, occasionally sighing deeply if a single person among the visitors raised their voice.

He couldn't sort his thoughts out. That was the only thing he wanted to do, yet the noise kept on holding him back.

"Enough of the bandages! It will constrict his bones and muscles! Instead, apply ointments to reduce the swelling!"

"Beast's heal differently than humans! We shouldn't use such basic medicine to cure His Lordship!"

"But we can't acquire that medicine right now! We have no choice!"

As the number of people who were screaming increased, Ius lost a fraction of his patience. Soon enough, he became agitated and threw glares at the physician and the nurses who were arguing.

He then stood up and made his approach to the unknowing individuals.

"Didn't I tell you to procure it yesterday?! I remember sending an order to the pharmacy!"

"That kind of medicine should be ordered a week prior! It wouldn't come just because you requested it! That has to be procured from outside of the capital!"

Ius halted his steps right outside of their circle, his shadow looming over them.

"What do you think the lot of you are doing?" Ius asked as he put his hands inside his pockets.

As soon as they saw Ius, they turned around and bowed their heads.

"My Lord, what seems to be the matter?" The physician queried, oblivious of what Ius came for.

"I never knew you were this incompetent. You're afore the servants of the Avret Dukedom yet you're showing such a disgraceful appearance."

"I apologize, My Lord! We were suddenly alerted that Young Master Herkel Avret has been wou-"

At that point, the butler of the Avret Family stepped forward and greeted Ius.

"Young Lord, we're pleased that you're addressing this issue. However, please pardon your servants for it is our role to procure Young Master Herkel's needs. We're already thankful that you allowed him to stay in the main mansion of your estate."

Ius didn't pay attention to the butler. He just stared at the Romanoff's physician, his disappointment evident on his face.

"How long have you been working in the estate?"

With their quivering shoulders, the old man answered, "A little over a month, My Lord."

"Yes, 47 days to be exact. You replaced one of the most exemplary physicians that the Dukedom has hired. But what is this? Are you not ashamed?"

Unable to retort, the physician's head lowered even further. The other people behind him we're in the same state.

Herkel, who collapsed an hour ago, was welcomed by the sight. He blinked a few times, trying to clear his vision. Thereafter, he met Ius' eyes.

"Ius, why… why are there so many people around?"

Ius hurriedly went near Herkel and surveyed his pallid countenance.

"Herkel, is the pain unbearable?"

Herkel slowly nodded as he replied, "Since they've bandaged me up already, can you please chase these people out? They're too noisy. I can't get a breather."

Hearing Herkel's request, Ius turned towards the Avret Family butler.

"You heard him. Take all of these people out. We'll keep Herkel company."

"As you wish, My Lord. Please call us whenever we're needed. The servants of the Avret Family are staying in the nearby Parlor."

Herkel's request was fulfilled in no time.

The maids helped the physician and the nurses sort their things out. Meanwhile, the six young Lords observed them with great anticipation.

Once the crowd had vanished, yet again, the members of the Valk league were alone in the room.

They couldn't help but appreciate the peace even more.

"Everyone, come here," Ius announced while ruffling his hair.

The others quickly stood up and nighed the bed. Once they were all gathered, a brief moment of silence descended. The quietude was then broken by Herkel's nervous laughter.

"What's with this mood? Am I dying?"

Fluger gave him a glare and mouthed, "I wish you were."

For some reason, the two remained silent. They didn't start an argument owing to the change in the atmosphere inside the room.

"From this point on, I'll be discussing how we're going to approach Herkel's case."

The five young men were now all ears to Ius.

"We are to investigate five servants inside the Romanoff Estate. Do not mind roaming around. You all have my permission. Ulysses, you will be tailing the maid named Helga. Igor, you are to follow the Head Butler around. As for you, Fluger, did you notice the maid who kept on giving glances at us?"

"Yes, the one who accompanied the physician." Fluger retorted right away.

"Keep a watch on her. Aaviren, question the Head Maid. We'll commence our mission once the lights in the mansion are out."

"What about you, Ius?" Aaviren queried, nodding his head as he thought of the task assigned to him, "Wouldn't it be better if you ask the Head Maid on my behalf? They will be more honest if you're the one to interrogate them."

"Well, Herkel mentioned someone's name earlier. I have this gut feeling that they will be the most troublesome."
