Simply Impossible

Nadia felt slightly sorry for the man. Here he was turning down a goddess such as herself for another one who was off limits.. well at least for the time being anyway.

"She's really engaged?" he asked as suspicion appeared on his handsome features. He thought that maybe she was just saying this because he turned her down. Although the reality was far from that but as a man his knowledge on women only went so far thinking all women would react in a petty matter. Going based on experience since he had seen it happen before.

"Yes, her fiancé is crazy jealous so it's best you steer clear. For her sake and for yours." Nadia warned him.

The man shook his head with an unpleasant look on his face. It was like a child who really wanted the shiny toy on the counter but was told no by it's parent.

"Well can't I just befriend her then?" He asked with hope filling his face. His dark brown eyes shone brighter as he asked this.

Nadia rolled her eyes and pursed her lips. How dare he pull the friend card? She had just tried that herself; she knew this tactic. The 'let's be friends' method was as old as time. Although in Anai'ya's case the engagement wasn't real he didn't know that.

Her opinion of the man wavered just a bit in her mind. She did however think maybe after Anai'ya was done dealing with the lunatic she might like this man. An idea formed in her head.

"Tell me your name and I might introduce you to her so you can befriend her." she proposed emphasizing the word 'befriend' with a cunning look in her eyes.

The man stiffened and seemed to seriously consider her offer. Why hadn't he said his name all this time? It was truly starting to bug her at this point. Did he have a shady background, was he a criminal, or was he a government official? All these questions began to surface in her mind as she watched the man closely for any telltale signs of nervousness someone trying to hide their identity would have.

"My name and you'll really introduce us?" He asked warily.

"Yes." She replied.

"Gabriel Michaels." the man said.

Nadia froze.

'Did she hear him correctly?'

'Did he say Gabriel Michaels?'

She looked at him in astonishment. Her heart beating fast, she could feel it thumping madly in her chest. Her veins seemed to freeze over.

Nadia was unable to reply for a long time her whole body was completely rigid in her seat. She stared at the man as a myriad of emotions flooded her face. The strongest was disbelief.

How was this possible? It couldn't be! It shouldn't be! Gabriel Michaels died 10 years ago. This was a fact.

Maybe it wasn't the Gabriel Michaels she was imagining. Yeah that's right. It wasn't possible. Maybe it was just a coincidence they happened to have the same name. She convinced herself that it was all in her head, a mere overreaction on her part. Nothing more.

They watched the young teenage boy die in front of their own eyes-Anai'ya, her brother and herself. It was just simply impossible that he was who she thought he was. There was just no way.

Yes. There was absolutely no way. Not a chance. Nadia repeated this in her mind over and over again convincing herself she was wrong.
