Chapter 3 A World of Dragons

Meanwhile at the wizards tower

"It seems the stars have aligned" said an old wizard. "What does that mean sir" asked his apprentice. "The world is about to change, dear boy," said the wizard. "And how much will depend only on those the gods choose" he added.

Back in the cave

The baby dragons quickly made it to the top of the cliff. They began to fly into the barrier. At first it was one by one, but they quickly began to group together. "I don't think it can hold much longer, Sera," Eddy said. At this point we were both running low on magic.

"Dammit I'm out" eddy said as he fell to the ground. The shield began to Crack as my magic was the only thing still holding it up. "AHHH" I screamed as I put more magic into the barrier. Some cracks disappeared as new ones formed. "Sera," Eddy said as he looked at me shocked.

I didn't pay attention to him. All of my concentration and magic was focused on the barrier. "Cedric take over for Sera" I heard my mothers voice from behind me. That was when the barrier strengthened. And as it did I fell to my knees exhausted. "Sera!" My mother said running to me. "T-took you long enough" I said out of breath. "You should have let the barrier down" she told me as my father who was also there handed her a handkerchief,"I didn't want to let them out into the world without your say so" I told her as she wiped beneath my nose. Blood was now on the handkerchief.

"They can't stay in the cave forever, Sera," she told me. "Their dragons," she said. "No matter what they will grow," she added. "What if they end up in the wrong hands?" I asked her, "we can only hope that wherever they end up... won't become chaos" she told me.

I let out a deep breath then looked up at my mother, then looked at the dragons. She was right. We couldn't just keep them locked up here when they are meant to roam the world. I slowly stood up, the. Walked over to the barrier.

"Take it down" I told Cedric. He gave me a nod and the barrier came down. The baby dragons began to flood the cave going past us. Almost as if they knew exactly where to go. Hundreds, possibly thousands of babies flew out of the cave and soon enough there was only one left, at the very bottom. "Mother" I said as I pointed down to the baby who was with the large red dragon I had named Flare.

"It seems that one is having some trouble flying," my mother stated. What were the chances that out of the hundreds possibly even thousands of Dragons that were born today it would be the only one that couldn't fly. "We must help it," I told her. "Sera it's a dragon that cannot fly, it won't survive long if it cannot make it to the sky" she told me.

"I don't believe that," I told her. I quickly climbed down the cliff. "Seraphina!" My mother said surprised as I got to the bottom. The large red dragon, Flare, glared at me for a moment. "I just want to help it" I said quietly, gesturing to the baby dragon who stood beside it.

Flare turned around and I slowly picked up the baby dragon. Its wing was disfigured, it might never fly. "You poor thing" I said as I stared down at the blue dragon. "I'll take good care of you, I'm sure there's some way to fix that wing," said Reassuringly.

Dragons were smart creatures from birth. Much smarter than humans. And much more loyal to.

I held the baby dragon in one arm as I began to climb back up the cliff wall. "What are you thinking?" My mother asked as I made it to the top. "I'm thinking I shall raise it until I can find a way to fix its wing" I told her "Sera it's wing is deformed" she told me "I doubt it will ever be able to fly" she told me. "Well I believe that one day it will" I told her resulting in her letting out a sigh.

"Let us return," she said. "What about that dragon?" I asked my mother. "It will leave when it is ready" she said as she began to walk back down the tunnel. My father who had come with Cedric and my mother was quiet. He just watched me, observed me. We didn't have much of a connection. But he was always there.

When we got out of the sinkhole Drazyn, blizzard and Storm were still waiting. Other than the baby dragon I had held in my arms there was no other in sight. I was curious to know where they went, what they would do, what would happen to them. Deep down I knew.

There were now hundreds, possibly thousands of Dragons in the world. And people would definitely try to get that power, after all those who have dragons are not forces to be reckoned with. Drazyn lowered his head to me and I pet it. He was the oldest of the 2 dragons, right around 20 years old. And he was the largest so big I was never sure what I could even compare his size to.

When we got back to the castle and the dragons landed we were greeted by my mother's vassals. "You majesty" Viscount Andrew bowed as my mother, myself and everyone else hopped off the dragons. "Is there something I can do for you viscount?" My mother asked.

"An emergency meeting has been called your majesty," said the viscount. "Regarding what?" My mother asked with clear annoyance in her voice. The viscount looked at me and glared for a moment before looking back at my mother and answering her. "The meeting is in regards to the right of succession, your majesty... your heir" he told her.

"The Princess Seraphina is my heir viscount" she told him. "It seems some believe that is not the best decision your majesty" he told her. "They wish for you to choose a new heir," he added.
