I woke up the next morning with my back against Mykel's chest and his arms around me. He was so warm and I loved this feeling.
"Jasper! Get up! Your parents are almost here!" Luna pounded on the door. Mykel tensed, looking up. I wiggled out of his arms, jumping up and dressing quickly.
"Get in the shower. You know how my mom is." I ran out of the room, getting clean clothes and getting in the shower. I was out of the shower in a few minutes, drying my hair with a towel. I wondered if the condom had popped because I felt as if something had oozed out of me when I showered. I didn't say anything, though.
"So, how was it?" Luna smiled as I brushed my damp hair. I only smiled when there was a knock on the hotel room door. I opened it to see my parents.
"Hi! How is the trip so far? Find your soulmate, yet?" Mom beamed, coming in. I looked to Luna. "Is that a yes? Tell me who it is and how you met! Where's Micah?"
"Mykel." I corrected as he walked in. He was dressed in his gear and looked like he did when we met.
"I'll get it out of you. We chose this vacation area for a reason. Come on, there's an amusement park and I wanna go!" She pulled me out of the room and everyone followed. I was confused on what she meant. We didn't bother to tell her that we already went to the amusement park since she wanted to have fun. "So, out with it!" I twisted a finger in my hair as I thought about what to say. I didn't want to lie, but I didn't want her to be upset about it.
"I think it's Mykel." Dad shrugged as he walked next to me.
"Can't be. He's too stiff and quiet." Mom waved him off. I thought about last night and how we tried to stay quiet for Luna's sake, but it didn't work. He was definitely stiff then.
"He's just like that around you guys because he thinks that's what you expect." I told them.
"Well, Honey. If he is your soulmate then we will still be happy. He's a good, strong, attractive man." The way she talked about him as if he wasn't behind us bothered me. I took a deep breath as my arm started to go numb. "So, who is it?" She was a couple steps ahead on me so I shook my arm to try and make the numbness go away. I counted down in my head as if I was about to self destruct and by the time I reached three, I collapsed.
*~~*~~*~~*
"Why isn't she waking up? Is this normal?" Mom's voice sounded frantic.
"How do you forget your own daughter's condition?" Luna snapped. I felt something brush across my face, causing me to open my eyes. I blinked, looking up at Mykel. His hazel eyes were calm as he checked my pulse.
"So... this is normal?" Mom huffed. "And Micah always catches her and holds her until she wakes up?" She gasped suddenly.
"You're her soulmate!" She placed a hand on her chest, making her look very surprised. "I've missed so much." I sat up slowly, pushing the hair that fell in my face aside. Mykel's hand was on my back, supporting me.
"Have you had sex?" Her face seemed to droop slightly, filling with worry.
"They haven't." Luna blurted before either one of us could answer.
"How would you know?" Dad finally stepped in. He didn't seem worried about my fainting.
"I'm her best friend. She tells me everything." She replied.
"Can we just go to the park?" I groaned, tired of the arguing. Mykel helped me up carefully. Mom allowed Mykel to change so that he didn't stick out and we walked to the amusement park. She wanted to talk to me the whole time, but I always went to a food stand or a ride when she would ask a question. We walked down the path through the large groups of people while she ate a funnel cake.
"I'm so sorry that I've missed so much. I'm always gone. How did you know it was him?" She held onto my arm so that I couldn't walk away. There were too many people and if I left, we'd both be lost.
"My wrist used to say 2,561 miles. When he arrived, it said zero. I didn't think anything of it... until I started to realize that I liked him." I smiled, rubbing my wrist where the zero was. "I never feel alone or scared because of him."
"I'm so happy." She beamed, tears forming in her eyes. "I want to test something. Run towards that stand." She pointed so I looked ahead to a food stand about fifteen feet away. I gazed back at her confused.
"Just do it." She nodded with a smile. When I took a step, I pushed myself forward. Avoiding people, I ran for the stand. In seconds, muscular arms wrapped around me and lifted me off the ground. A laugh came from me as I figured out what my mom wanted.
"Where are you going?" He chuckled in my ear, still holding me. After a moment, he set me down.
"You two are so cute!" Mom clasped her hands together, joining us. "As long as you keep protecting her, I'll allow it."
"I'll protect her with my life." He promised, facing her. Biting my lip, I pulled the collar of his shirt so that he leaned down. I kissed him passionately then walked away with a smile.
"The sass!" Luna caught up to me. I felt good. I was happy not only because my parents accepted that Mykel was my soulmate, but because now I didn't have to hide it. "Girl, you are GLOWING with happiness."
"Well, I am happy." I shrugged, glancing back at my mother and Mykel. They spoke to each other with smiles. "I have a handsome soulmate and my parents accept him. Why wouldn't I be happy?"
