Ezra was still mad at her parents when they called her down for dinner. She didn't know what to say to them. She was nine almost ten and didn't understand how it was a big deal that she looked up to Henry.
Ezra also didn't realize all the bad things Henry had done in his life. Henry was a cold blooded killer, sold drugs, and never made anything of himself. Half of the time he stole from people just to make ends meet but Ezra never saw that side of him except for the violent episodes he had.
David dipped on some wine as Ezra sat down and Kelly smiled at Ezra.
"What'd you make this time," Ezra said sarcastically.
Kelly thought for a moment before she spoke then finally said, "Honey, it's your favorite. Lasagna and garlic bread with some fruit salad."
Ezra rolled her eyes, "Always have to have that balance huh?"
David put his wine down and looked at Ezra stern, "Don't talk to your mother that way!"
Ezra slowly ate her food and didn't speak for ten minutes then finally said, "I'm sorry I look up to an asshole!"
Kelly and David looked up in surprise. Ezra had never cussed and they never expected to hear her say anything like that. In their eyes she was a precious little angel with some dirt on her wings.
"Ezra Heller! What has gotten into you?" Said Kelly with concern.
Ezra folded her arms and starred at her plate with disgust, "It's not fair for you guys to tell me how I should feel! I was the one kidnapped and thrown in a dungeon for months! Did you guys look day and night for me?"
David starred at Ezra with disbelief, "We looked for hours and day upon day. We can't tell you how to feel, but how is he a hero when he locked you up!"
Kelly shook her head, "I think you need counseling dear."
Ezra looked up and had a devilish look on her face, "I'm not going to a therapist! I am who I am and I don't get what is so wrong with it! I go to school and I don't do anything wrong, but you want to send me to a dumb therapist to tell me I'm crazy?"
David rubbed his face, "No, we want you to be okay. We're not sending you to a therapist, but Henry wasn't the best guy to be around."
Dinner was already going downhill and Ezra was becoming frustrated but she didn't want to go back and forth with them all night.
"I'll stop writing about him, but you can't change my thoughts. I'm not obsessed I just think he changed me for the better is that so wrong?" Ezra said right before she took a bite of lasagna.
Kelly sipped some wine then said, "Honey, you can feel what you want, but don't let it get you in trouble. You're a smart girl with a bright future and we want you to be happy."
Ezra nodded, "I am happy, but you don't need to worry."
Ezra finished her dinner then said, "I love you both, but I'm going to bed. I'm fine and you just need to stop worrying. I'm not crazy, but I do have feelings."
Kelly and David nodded and kissed her goodnight before she went upstairs to bed. Ezra laid in bed again and thought about Henry. She thought about how violent he was. Maybe he was a bad guy, but what if he did that because he had anger built up.
Ezra thought maybe if she made some mistakes it wouldn't be that big of a deal since Henry was a little different too. She didn't want to get in trouble, but she figured since life wasn't easy maybe making decisions wasn't either.
