Bzzzzt-

Torch welded together a final piece, sparks flying towards the ground. His inbuilt tools retracted back into his arms as he examined his work. It was a large operating table. A mechanical ring rotated around the table. Several engraving lasers placed onto it. The ring slid up and down the operating table, acting as some sort of scanner. Torch controlled its movements with his interface.

Placing a large figurine onto the operating table Torch ran a preprogrammed sequence. Starting from the bottom the ring slowly moved upwards, scanning the figurine from its toes up to its head. Once it completed a full scan it requested permission to continue. Torch manually continued this process and watched as a magic circle formed underneath the operating table.

Kan'na stated this circle should put the subject into a 'stasis' state. Preventing any form of twitching or other subconscious movements from interfering with the process. This was controlled by a large device stationed underneath the operating table. A mana generator constantly provided a steady stream of concentrated mana to a large disc with engraved instructions.

The engraving lasers created the tiny lights and began to work rapidly. Acting like a printer they engraved a set of runes across the figurine's surface, and within the body itself. Each individual light was capable of moving individually on the ring, and their programming prevented the machines from hitting each other. Despite its quick actions the time it took to complete the entire figurine reached a few hours.

Torch didn't stop the process once. It was important to ensure there was no issues. Kan'na was adamant about this point. It had to be as close to flawless as possible. Thus Torch spent the hours during its performance watching the machine and its statistics. Once the final rune was engraved on the body Torch sent a message to Kan'na while he investigated each part.

The lens was reporting temperatures higher than estimated, but still within margin. There wouldn't be any warping. As long as he let it cool down completely before the next activation of the machine it will be fine. Power levels were stable, mana generation remained above the minimum threshold. . .

Kan'na teleported into the room and spotted the machine, "Oh this works!"

"You haven't even seen it in action."

"I've done enough studying of your machines to know how you think when creating things. Let me see our test dummy."

Magic circles formed and did their own scan of the figurine used to test the machine. Kan'na even inspected several of the runes with her own eyes. Lifting an arm she carefully caressed it and asked, "How's the machine performing?"

"The lens have higher temperature than estimated. It will be fine, but I can replace the lens if needed."

"How much higher?"

"It would be dangerous to activate the machine several times before the lens cool. As long as they're cooled it won't prove to be an issue. Just in case I'm thinking of adding backups in the scenario where one becomes damaged."

"How long will that take?"

"I can have it set up before the next test. The machine itself just requires a bit of modification."

Kan'na nodded happily. The runes themselves were machined perfection. Her own magic circles were reporting back there was no errors despite the runes being carved inside the figurine. Lifting a finger Kan'na performed the last test. Touching the forehead of the figurine she pushed a bit of her personal mana into the figurine.

Bursting in light the figurine dissipated into particles. Torch paused and looked at the particles slowly fading from sight.

"What was the purpose?", Torch found himself asking.

"That kind of effect would only work if the entire circuit was working. I turned it into pure mana. After the Undead Raid I witnessed the Slime King create a Territory. The rules of the Territory mentioned turning items into mana. This was sort of replicating that."

"A method like that could replace the use of mana crystals right?"

"Not really. It can't compare to the purity of mana within the crystals. It's a really inefficient way of handling mana. I believe it was only decent as a rule of the Territory because of how slimes work."

Kan'na crouched and inspected the disc underneath the operating table. With a frown she flipped open a part and slid out the disc. The large disc revealed to a have a section of a different color. As if it was burnt.

"Torch this method isn't going to work. The discs themselves aren't designed to be used over long periods of time. I feared this might be the case."

"It's a consumable right? You mentioned I didn't have to worry about that."

"For your robots you don't. Those are only handling information. This is actively outputting a powerful spell over a period of time. It's meant to be used similar to a teleport scroll. It's designed to be a quick and powerful activation, a consumable like you said. Constant application over time is too unstable."

"What do you suggest then? There isn't many ways to stop someone moving, and the other options aren't as good as your stasis spell."

Carrying the large disc Kan'na placed it against a wall. She studied the part that was burnt before saying, "I have an idea. I'm borrowing more crystals to make it though. Let me know when the machine is ready for the next test run will you?"

"Of course."

Snapping her fingers Kan'na teleported out of the room. Torch felt he was slowly becoming a sort of errand boy, but the knowledge of S grade modules was simply too worthwhile! Setting aside his concerns he continued to work on the machine. His idea wouldn't look too great, but this wasn't a machine he was worried about selling to people.

Kan'na had requested that such a device not be replicated and only be for her use. A patented creation. . .

This was a condition Torch readily agreed upon. Just the S grade modules themselves allowed Torch to create a new generation of robots that heavily outclassed the previous generation. The price he could sell this new generation for. . . imagining the amount of materials he could obtain made his mouth water. If he had a mouth that was.

Meanwhile Kan'na teleported a number of mana crystals in front of her. Utilizing several magic circles she morphed and pressed them into a large disc. This method was not something Torch was able to mass produce with his machines. There was often too many imperfections with fusing multiple mana crystals with machines. It was only due to Kan'na and her Key to All that she was able to perfectly morph the crystals into a singular disc.

The caveat to this was that the process took a while. She was essentially sewing together the crystals to ensure there was no errors. It was a manual thing that she needed to focus on for it to work.

It took about an hour before she completed the large disc. Brushing her palm against its smooth surface she took a breath. Now it was time to create the series of runes she was going to use. The issue with the 'stasis' spell was that it required constant activation to maintain the slowing of time. This was just part of the World Law that repaired space and time. Any incorrect parts would naturally be corrected. Thus the spell needed constant mana to constantly reapply the stasis to fight against the World Law.

Therein lay the issue. The constant activation burnt the previous disc, if it wasn't for the fact that the figurine was immobile there very well could've been imperfections in the final product. Thus her latest idea consisted of a different path.

This disc would create a particular fluid that paralyzed what it came into contact with. This sort of liquified mana would not only paralyze the body itself preventing any movement but it would also suffocate the inner mana of the target. Slowing the mana to the point to where it couldn't react to the engravings. This should be pretty close to the 'stasis' Kan'na was previously using. Considering that the fluid was created the moment the disc was activated this should also fix the issue of constant use.

There was a small concern regarding how her Key to All would react to her mana slowing to a near stop. She felt there was a slight chance that it might become damaged, but considering how it was able to survive the might of [Truth: Rot] something on this level should be fine.

Engraving the final rune Kan'na sighed with relief. Lifting the disc with a magic circle she opened her messages to find Torch already sent the go ahead for the next test ten minutes ago. Teleporting into the room she spoke, "I finished my end. Is the next figurine ready?"

Clang~!

Torch dropped a tool out of shock, "You really need to learn to knock."

Slotting in the disc Kan'na apologized, "Sorry, I lost track of time. I'll teleport to the door next time."

"You do that. . . I set up a system to change the lasers if there's a reported error. I can manually swap them out if issues occur during the proper run. This is just a backup though, it really shouldn't need it."

"The more prepared we are the better. I changed the main disc too, this should help with the burning issue. We ready?", Kan'na closed the compartment holding the disc.

Torch placed another figurine onto the operating table and stood back. Kan'na also backed out of its area. Activating the machine Torch watched with curiosity. A fluid began to flow up and encompass the figurine, slowly floating and keeping it into place. The scanning system began creating a map of the body before the engravings began to work.

Kan'na explained as the machine worked, "I had to create contingencies for this. The mana fluid shouldn't interfere with the engraving nor the scanning, its purely affecting the target body."

"How do you go about that?"

"A lot of loopholes that can be taken advantage of normally. In this case I simply made it entirely ignore anything that isn't its target. This allows the scanning to pass by it normally. However this also means things like dust or any other foreign object can pass through it and affect the body inside."

"I keep my place clean."

"I wasn't commenting on the cleanliness of the place."

The two quieted down as they began to watch the engraving process! If this test was a success then Kan'na would be next!
