chapter 2

"nothing loved is ever lost"

.....

Teddy pov

Here's a refined version with better flow, grammar, and emotional depth:

The Hogwarts Express stood before me, a gateway to a new beginning—new knowledge, new adventures, new friendships. A whirlwind of emotions swirled inside me—nervousness, excitement, and a quiet sadness.

Nervous, because everything ahead was unknown.

Excited, to learn all that Hogwarts had to offer and more.

Sad, because my parents weren't here to see me off. They never got to witness me holding my Hogwarts letter, never got to tell me stories about their time at school or help me figure out which house I might belong to. I wished, more than anything, that they were here—to take me to Diagon Alley, to share this moment with me.

A familiar voice pulled me from my thoughts.

"Hey."

I turned to see my godfather, Harry, smiling at me.

"Hey," I replied softly.

A little distance away stood Ginny, James, Albus, Lily, Hermione, Fleur, and Bill. They had all come to see me and Vic off for our first year.

"Nervous?" Harry asked.

I nodded. Of course I was.

"I was too," he admitted with a small laugh. "Blimey, I didn't even know the wizarding world existed when I boarded this train for the first time."

Then his expression softened, and he crouched down in front of me, resting a hand on my shoulder.

"I know what you're thinking," he said, his voice quieter now. "I know you're missing them. I miss them too. But Teddy, just know—they would have wanted you to be happy. And they would be so, so proud of you." His hands moved to cup my face gently. "Just like I am."

I swallowed the lump in my throat and nodded, a small smile forming. "Thank you, Harry."

He pulled me into a hug, and I held on tightly.

"Hey!"

A loud voice broke the moment, and when we turned, we saw Uncle Ron rushing toward us with a trolley. Beside him was a girl I didn't recognize.

And—Merlin—what a girl.

She had thick, long black hair that gleamed under the station lights and deep brown eyes that flickered with curiosity and nerves.

"Ronald Weasley, where were you?" Hermione's sharp voice made Uncle Ron freeze mid-step. "You're late!"

"I was helping someone—"

"Mr. Weasley was helping me, ma'am," the girl spoke up, looking a little unsure. "I didn't know how to get through the barrier, so he helped me."

"See?" Ron said, throwing his hands up.

Hermione sighed but let it go. "And you are?"

Ron grinned. "Everyone, this is Vanessa Valencia. Vanessa, this is my wife, Hermione, and that's Harry, Teddy, and Vic. Teddy and Vic are off to Hogwarts for the first time too."

Vanessa. That was a nice name.

"Hello, I'm Victoria Weasley," Vic said, practically pushing past me to greet Vanessa. "We can be friends!"

The train whistled, signaling it was time to leave.

After saying our goodbyes, Vic, Vanessa, and I wandered through the train looking for an empty compartment. Eventually, we found one and settled in.

An awkward silence hung between us—until, of course, Vic decided to break it.

"So, Vanessa, where did you find Uncle Ron?" she asked, tilting her head.

I sighed. Did she not hear the whole conversation earlier?

Vanessa shrugged. "I was standing at the barrier, trying to figure out how to get through, and he insisted on helping me."

Vic's face lit up. "Can I call you Nessa? You can call me Vic!"

Vanessa smiled and nodded. "Sure."

The two of them started talking, and I turned to the window, watching the platform disappear in the distance—until Vic smacked me on the arm.

"Ouch! What was that for?" I glared at her.

She gave me a tight-lipped smile. "Shouldn't you introduce yourself properly, Teddy?"

I sighed but turned to Vanessa. "I'm Edward Lupin, but you can call me Teddy." I offered my hand.

She took it, her grip light but firm. "Vanessa Valencia. Nice to meet you."

A voice interrupted us.

"Anything from the trolley, dears?"

An old woman stood at the door, her cart filled with sweets. My stomach rumbled.

We each grabbed a few treats, including chocolate frogs.

"I got Neville Longbottom's card!" Vic exclaimed, holding it up. "Says here he was the brave Gryffindor who killed Voldemort's snake—Nagini!"

Vanessa checked hers. "Oh! I got the Golden Trio. It says, 'The three young wizards who saved the wizarding world from You-Know-Who.'"

Vic sighed dreamily. "I wanna be like them. Go on adventures. Save the world."

I snorted. "They faced a lot of danger, Vic. We probably wouldn't survive like they did."

I opened my chocolate frog and froze.

The card inside wasn't of some famous hero—it was my parents.

They were smiling up at me, side by side. The words on the back read:

"Warriors are not the ones who always win, but the ones who always fight."

My fingers tightened around the card.

"Hey, Teddy?" Vanessa's voice was soft. "You okay? You look kinda sad."

I forced a small smile and slipped the card into my jacket pocket. "Yeah, I'm fine. So, what were you guys talking about?"

"Which house we'll be in!" Vic said excitedly. "My mom says I'd probably be in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor." She turned to me. "What about you, Teddy?"

I hesitated. "Well… my dad was a Gryffindor, and my mom was a Hufflepuff. But I want to be in Gryffindor." Just like my father.

Vic nodded, then looked at Vanessa. "What about you, Nessa?"

Vanessa hesitated. "Actually… neither of my parents went to Hogwarts, so I don't really know."

Vic frowned. "Oh, but didn't they tell you—"

"I don't have parents," Vanessa said simply.

The air shifted.

Vic's face fell. "Oh. I… I'm sorry."

Vanessa gave a small smile. "It's okay. But I'm really glad I met you guys."

Vic beamed. "Yep! We're gonna be best friends, just wait!" She threw her arms around Vanessa in a dramatic hug, making her laugh.

I watched them, my lips quirking up.

Yeah. Maybe this journey wouldn't be so bad after all.
