Chapter 21

~~Roses P.O.V ~~

"Now as part of your punishment for snooping in my office LATE at night, I have agreed to shave off all your hair."

My eyes open wide in terror. "What!? NO!" I exclaim horrified until that is, my father began to hit his fist against the table, laughing his head off like he just cracked the worlds funniest joke.

"Are you serious right now? I actually thought you had lost your mind!" I say irritated as the man in front of me continues to laugh. I mean really...he's too old to be making lame jokes at the age of forty.

"Oh Rose, that was priceless!" He grins as he wipes away his tears. "Now on a more serious note, I'm letting you off with a warning since nothing was missing or ruined, but pull anything else like that again and there will be consequences." He says sternly and I nod my head, glad that I wouldn't be scrubbing toilets or anything.

~~Malcolm's P.O.V~~

"Hi, I'm here for work experience." I say, quite formally if you ask me, to the police officer at the desk. She looks at me and smiles.

"Hello Malcolm, I was expecting you. I'm Chief officer Riley and I'm glad you decided to work here with us because we are currently working on quite a serious crime that has sadly left a teen into an orphan." She frowns, shaking my hand and she leads me to the back after telling another officer to work at the desk, "I reckon this case is a great task to help with your future as it can determine whether you really are interested becoming a police officer." She continues, scanning a card that opened doors.

"So this is my office, I work here on cases and I've worked long and hard years to earn this massive office." She grins and I laugh. She opens up a storage room and hands me over a police uniform.

"Oh my beating heart!" I exclaim as I examine a real police uniform. She leads me to the bathroom and I change into the uniform with a wide grin on my face. I soon leave not before taking a selfie and sending it to my friends.

"Okay, so here are the files of the middle aged couple who have savagely murdered a family for revenge. It was explained to us that this couple had been expecting a child nineteen years ago and were on their way to hospital. Sadly, the side where the wife was sitting, was hit by a car, causing a terrible accident, physically for the couple and for their unborn child which was due pretty close at the time. So after losing their first child, they both went out to ruthlessly get revenge and murder the entire Jones family during a family dinner." She explains as she sorts out the files.

"That's extreme." I say shocked.

"Yes it is. However, two teens managed to escape, who are currently under our care in the witness protection program until we catch them, as this couple are still on the hunt for them." She finishes, handing me a file. "This is William Jones, eldest son alive, the one who managed to escape before being killed and this is his cousin, Sarah Jones." She hands me two files but my eyes were glued on this William.

He looks so familiar...

"You've gone quiet." She laughs as she makes herself some coffee. "Too much for you to handle?"

"Uhh yeah, it's just that....He looks so familiar and its just bothering me because I don't know who he looks like." I explain, still examining him.

She laughs. "Yes, that can get irritating. Anyways, would you like coffee whilst we look at the details of the two suspected murderers?" She questions.

"Yeah sure."

After having a sip from the freshly made coffee, I hum in satisfaction, as she opens up the file and puts it in front of me. I immediately turn to the side and spit out the coffee that I had just sipped. "Is this some kind of joke!?" I shriek eyeing the pictures of the two suspected murderers.

"Excuse me?" She questions as she eyes me suspiciously.

"Am I being pranked or something? My parents would never murder anyone!" I continue angrily, my coffee long forgotten.

Chief officer Riley chokes on  her coffee as well. "Those are your parents? From what we have gathered, it is said they don't have any children?"

"What?" My voice was barely audible as the serious expression on her face told me that this was definitely no joke. My hands begin to visibly shake as tears clouded my eyes.

My parents...Killers...?

"No! There's definitely a mistake, they didn't do this." I refused to believe it but the photos she pulled out from surveillance cameras, placed outside of the homes, said so otherwise.

"Oh my gosh...You really are their son!? Why hasn't this been documented or anything?" She questions with wide eyes as she types away on her Apple computer.

"They dumped me in a boarding school and haven't even visited me for over six years and this is what they've been doing?" I question more to myself.

"Boarding school? You mean the prestigious one in this town?"

I nod, still staring at the two familiar faces of the ones I called parents. I was disgusted. I felt like I was part of this brutal murder that has left two young teenagers without a family. And I, above all would know what it's like to not have a family. Yet at the same time, it was their fault for not driving properly so they caused my parents to be like this.

I stare at this so called William Jones. Who ever he is, his parents were the reason for all this. I suddenly felt my blood boiling. It was their fault...They did this....They caused my parents to do this!

"Oh, So I assume you know William? Well... actually, maybe not, as we have had to give him an identity change." She thinks deeply about something as she picks up her phone, calling her executive to come to her office immediately.

"He goes to the same boarding school?"

"Yes, maybe that's why he looks familiar."

"No, I would've definitely known a William in our grade but there isn't one." I reply, reading that he was nearly eighteen years old, meaning he had to be a senior.

"Well dear, he obviously had to have a name change. I'm going to tell you because you are working here for two weeks and so as you have agreed, everything we speak here, remains here and does not get told to anyone else. Our work is highly confidential. Am I understood?" I nod, waiting to know who this familiar person is.

"Some changes to his appearance have been made such as eye colour. His eyes are originally blue and a dead giveaway so he has to wear green contacts and we even had to surgically laser his eyes so he wouldn't wear his glasses. We've also had to dye his hair from light brown to black.  You may know him as Kyle Anderson." She finishes just as a man walks in with a folder.

At the mention of the name, the whole world just suddenly froze.

Kyle...?
