Chapter 98: Drax's Vacation-2 (A Side Story)

Excited beyond words, Drax's little sister Fiori spent the next two hours explaining the basics of relationships to her brother. She didn't have much experience, but she loved reading and watching anything from the romance genre, and she had helped their eldest brother woo his wife when she was still reluctant to marry him. Knowing that Drax was military minded, she tried her best to tell him everything in easy to follow steps. She figured that the less thinking he had to do, the better.

"Step one: get to know her. You want to find out her basic information like her first and last name, her birthday, and her favorite color," Fiori said. "After that, you want to get a little more detailed, find out what sort of music she likes, ask her about her favorite food and if you are both still interested move to step two." Drax was an active listener and Fiori swore she could hear him taking notes.

"Step two: ask her on a date. If she says 'yes,' continue to step three, if she says 'no,' go back to step one."

"Why would I go back to step one?" Drax asked.

"Because you obviously missed something. Try and feel out what is making her apprehensive by offering more information about yourself." Drax acknowledged that he understood and waited for the next step.

"Step three: ask her about her family, by now she should be comfortable with you enough to speak openly and if not, it means you haven't made her feel comfortable yet. For every question she avoids, you answer for yourself instead."

"Can't I just have her investigated?" Drax asked, and his sister gasped like her brother just uttered the most blasphemous sentence in existence. Drax slowly put down the folder in his hand. His sister's reaction made Mills' file feel like hot coal.

"You better not," Fiori said, clearly annoyed by the suggestion. "What if she finds out later? Then every nice thing you would have done for her will seem fake, and for most women, being manipulated into a relationship is one of the worst things you can experience." Drax was quiet on the other end of the line.

"Has that happened to you?" Drax asked, and his sister chuckled.

"Almost," she answered honestly. "Don't worry, Adir handled it for me."

'Adir? Not father?' Drax thought. Had his eldest brother already taken over as the family head? How much had he missed already? Drax asked his sister who assured him that he had not missed his brother's accession dinner. Drax sighed in relief. He and his brothers were not very close as friends, but their family bond was unshakable. Missing something as important as his brother being promoted to the highest-ranking member in the family, would have caused unwarranted gossip. The act, no matter the reason, would have been likened to him stating his objection to his brother being placed in the lead position.

Getting back to the main topic, Fiori reminded her brother not to be too clingy or pushy. She told him that he should rely on coincidental meetings then she explained to him what a coincidental meeting entailed.

"So basically, I should keep showing up in places I know she visits and hope to see her there?" Drax's sister was pleased. Her brother was not a lost cause after all.

----

In the morning, Drax rented a car and visited the factory where Milo was currently creating and testing weapons prototypes for the Lee Group. Security at the facility was strict and only after showing his official governmental badge with the Lee family seal attached, was he allowed inside. Without the Lee family seal on his badge, he was sure he would not have been allowed in. The special marking meant that he was a government agent acting within the purview of the Lee family. It was widely believed that the Lee family-controlled Pan country, but if people knew how close to the truth it was, they would be terrified.

----

Milo heard a knock at his office door and checked his security monitor. Seeing it was Drax he buzzed the man into his office. Drax was impressed by the several layers of security both outside and inside of the building and he commended Milo for his insightfulness.

"Thanks," Milo said, "but it's my sister who came up with all of this. Do you know how many times she has broken into this place since we opened?" He complained.

After a brief silence Milo asked Drax why he had come. He was not sure if the man was acting in his official capacity. Drax told him that he was on vacation and came to visit Sani. Milo knew this meant he came to visit Mills.

"My sister will be here shortly," Milo said. "In the meantime, I'll take you to the ballistic chamber to try out some of our prototypes. I think you will like them." Drax did not need motivation to play with new toys. He eagerly followed Milo to a restricted access portion of the factory.

Drax was instantly drawn to the several weapons that were showcased in glass containers. Each weapon had a clipboard chart near it and Drax picked it up to read. After telling the technician in the room to attend to the man he just let in as a V.I.P, Milo left Drax to enjoy himself, while he retreated to his office.

Drax did not even notice that Milo had left, he was too busy trying to learn about all the features of the beautiful gun in front of him. It was basically a low caliber backup firearm; however, Milo had found a way to increase the speed of the projectile, making the weapon just as effective as its high caliber counterpart. For anyone who loses their main weapon in the middle of combat, this small improvement could prove to be lifesaving. Many times in the past, Drax was unable to take down a target because his backup weapon was only strong enough to do minor damage in long range conflict. He thought about all the men who would have still been alive if they had access to such a thing and he suddenly realized that President Lee made a good investment by gambling on the twins.

Drax was in the middle of trying out each weapon when a familiar voice rang out beside him.

"Do you like her?" A feminine voice asked, referring to the gun in the man's hand and Drax plainly answered 'no'. Taken aback Mills asked why and he told her that he already had someone he liked. He looked in Mills' direction and had his breath taken away. It seemed the woman had gotten more beautiful since the last time he'd seen her. He did not know if it were because she was living a more peaceful life or if she had someone who was making her happy. The thought made him frown, but he remembered his conversation with his sister and decided to make small talk.
