Chapter 339: Doc-2

Dom leaned back in his bed. Enjoying the opening scene of the show he knew was about to be good. Mina was passive, but if provoked, her tongue was barbed, and he knew that Rebecca was about to get thoroughly tongue lashed.

Although injured, Dom made sure to pay close enough attention to push the woman away if she tried to strike Mina. Something she was prone to doing in anger.

"Right, I'm sure you were the top of your class," Rebecca said, and Mina smiled.

"I was. Could've been a doctor too, but it wasn't enough of a challenge." Mina's response made Rebecca glare at her.

"How would you know? By the looks of things, you probably wouldn't have made it a full day in medical school."

"I probably wouldn't have. I believe that only people who require constant praise become physicians in this country. Especially the rude ones like you." Mina turned away from Rebecca, who was only just beginning with her argument.

"So, you know a few words and you think that qualifies you as a physician?" That got Mina's attention.

"I know enough not to treat a person in isolation with antidepressants because it makes it easier for them to deal with." Rebecca was shocked by Mina's words, but that was not what she was trying to do. She disliked Dom, but she was trying to make things easier on him.

"How long have you been having hallucinations?" Mina asked Dom, who now looked just as surprised as Rebecca. He had not told anyone about what he was seeing, and he knew Mina was not just guessing.

"He hasn't had-"

"Maybe a day or two," Dom responded, cutting Rebecca off. Mina now understood why Dom had been so clingy when she first walked in. Not only was he unaware that she was found a few hours after being taken, but he was also being treated for a condition that he did not have. What Dom needed was the truth and rest.

"Why didn't you say anything to me?" Rebecca asked, genuinely concerned. She and Dom had never gotten along, but not to the point of her sacrificing her career to hurt the man. Not to mention the fact that a commercial actress was pointing out her oversight. That was by far the worst part of everything.

"You didn't ask," Dom replied, and Rebecca turned red in anger. She did not believe she needed to ask. He should have just told her.

"Doctor Rebecca, I suggest you go back to medical school and figure out which class you slept through." Mina scanned the room and found a folded wheelchair which she opened and ordered Dom into.

"Mina my ass is hanging out," Dom said. The truth was that he was enjoying the little spat too much to leave. It was not often when Rebecca was left unable to defend herself. She did everything with a purpose, and Dom would be lying if he said he did not think she was intentionally trying to drive him crazy.

"I'm not looking at you. Now get in!" Mina shouted, and Dom hopped up and into the chair. Forceful Mina was sexy.

"Where are you taking him?" Rebecca demanded. Dom was her patient, and although she had been aggressive with his treatment, he was her responsibility.

"I'm taking him to see Doctor Witt. You obviously don't care about his recovery at all." Mina had no idea, but those words were the most antagonizing that she could have spoken. Rebecca grabbed Mina's arm and turned her around forcefully.

"Since you think you are a doctor, why not take over my workload?" Rebecca shoved a clipboard into Mina's hands and Mina glared at her before reading it.

"I'm assuming you've already tended to these men, otherwise you'd be committing murder by sitting here trying to get me to do your job." Mina shoved the clipboard back into Rebecca's hands and made her way out of the room, and toward where she remembered talking to Doctor Witt. Dom felt good. He had never met anyone who could shut Rebecca up.

----

Doctor Witt was not in his examination room, or in his office and Dom suggested for Mina to push him toward the lab, where the man often studied. Rebecca was still following them, but for every word she said, Mina had a comeback that left her speechless.

So far, Mina had proven to the woman that not only could she have become a doctor, but she could have been a good one. Even Dom was surprised.

"Mina why do you know so much medical jargon?" Dom asked, and Mina lowered her head towards Dom's ear.

"I considered becoming a physician when my father got sick, but unless you work in private medicine, the career doesn't pay well." Dom believed Mina. She really was like a walking encyclopedia, and when he had asked her why she chose to study finance, she told him that it was the easiest way to earn quickly.

Mina spotted Dr. Witt talking among a group of men who were all dressed in the same white coats. Doctor Rebecca was still rapping in her ear, but Mina had long ago stopped responding to the woman's provocations. She had stopped attacking Mina's intelligence, and started harping on Mina's career, or lack thereof.

"Doctor Witt!" Mina shouted. "I want you to take over Dom's care." Rebecca interjected, calling Mina all kinds of names, and when she called Mina useless, she got what she was looking for. "Me? Useless? I'm probably smarter than every person standing in this room." Mina said. She was rarely arrogant, but Rebecca was relentless.

"Please, you may be smart, but I have an IQ of one-sixty-four," Rebecca said smugly, and Mina chuckled as if the number was laughable.

"Doctor Witt," Dr. Witt said to Rebecca, and Mina's eyes shot open. She recognized that name.

"Doctor Rebecca Witt? Wow, this would have been an honor if you were not a horrible person. I remember following your studies when we were teens, and I remember thinking you were cheated, but now I see what the problem was." Mina stepped around Dom's wheelchair and walked closer to the woman she was arguing with. "You may have a high IQ, but your EQ is zero, and because of that, nothing you do will succeed." Rebecca wanted to punch Mina, but she refrained.

"Just because you know some medical terms doesn't make you smarter than me," Rebecca replied, and Mina responded by calling out a series of ones and zeros. One of the men in the room grabbed a pencil and began jotting the numbers down, while another tried to translate.

"When you can understand what I just said, then you can talk to me. Until then, I would like a real doctor to see my friend." Dom had no idea what Mina was doing, but he was so excited. He was witnessing the nerdiest catfight, by two of the sexiest smart women he knew, and he was not the only one interested.

"Mina, what is your IQ?" Doctor Witt asked.

"One-seventy-one, but I haven't had that confirmed. I was only seven when the test was given to me." Dr. Witt looked at his sister who looked annoyed by Mina's nonchalance regarding an IQ that high, and even he was impressed.

"Why don't we test you again?" He asked.
