Chapter 389: Come Back

Mina could not explain it, but all the strength in her limbs seemed to have faded away. She allowed James to lead her up to her apartment in the way a young man would aid his elderly mother. Typically, she disliked physical contact with males, but James was a lot like Paul, and Mina trusted him.

As soon as Mina's apartment door opened, Emma rushed her, but the attention she received from the woman was short-lived when she noticed the bruises on James' face.

"What happened to you? Did someone attack you? What is going on? Olivia didn't explain anything to me." Emma who was usually soft spoken and shy, was speaking at a normal volume, although both Mina and James knew she thought she was shouting.

Mina wisely retreated to her room allowing the couple much needed alone time. She immediately stripped her clothing and stepped into a warm shower, but she soon found herself sitting instead of standing under the flow of the water. She did not move until she heard a loud thud on the bathroom door. She cut the water and wrapped herself in something she found in her bathroom, frantically looking for something to protect herself with if needed.

"Mina it's me. Are you okay?" Mina recognized Emma's voice and opened the door only to shut it quickly. President Lee was standing behind the woman, with a wide-eyed expression on his face. Emma bashfully asked president Lee to leave the room, fully aware that she was ordering a billionaire around. To her surprise, the man was very polite with a slight bow before he left.

"Mina, sorry. He is gone now," Emma said to the shut door. Mina stepped out in the thin bathrobe that Olivia had left behind. In her haste to be free of her clothing, she had not prepared anything for a bath, and the silky black robe was all that was available.

"Why is he here?" Mina asked. Only to receive a shrug.

"He just showed up."

"Did he come for James?" Mina knew that Emma would not have an answer, but she still had to ask.

"Mina that man. You aren't-"

"No!" Mina shouted, startling Emma. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap. He has a very possessive girlfriend. I just don't want anyone to get the wrong idea." Emma nodded, but she could tell that it was something more.

When Mina was fully clothed, the women went to leave the bedroom, but President Lee was standing right outside the door. With a look, he dismissed Emma, and Mina found herself on the verge of panicking. The man shut the door behind him and took a seat on the small bench at the foot of Mina's bed; telling her that they needed to talk before she heard him sit down.

"President Lee, can we please speak outside of my bedroom; it's inappropriate for us to be in here."

"I have spoken with you in your bedroom before," President Lee replied.

"That was in your mansion, where the room I used had a sitting area. This room isn't even one third of its size."

"If this room is too small for you; come back," President Lee said and Mina sucked in a deep breath. She could not tell if he was joking, or being intentionally antagonistic, but his face was stoic, and she had a feeling it was a genuine suggestion.

"Why are you here?" Mina finally asked.

"I know what happened today. I took care of it and that man will never bother you again." Mina narrowed her eyes, absolutely amazed at how disgustingly low the man could go. If Cylus had not already called her, she might have believed President Lee, but maybe he was testing her.

"Thank you. If that is all, I would like to sleep." President Lee stood and walked toward Mina; he stopped mere inches away.

"Do you have plans for Thanking Day?" President Lee asked.

"Yes," Mina said curtly. She did not feel very much like speaking to the man who had just lied about helping her.

"and after that?" He asked, knowing that Mina's birthday was soon.

"Work," Mina replied in a deadpan tone.

"Are you okay?" Ian noticed the irritation in Mina's voice.

"Did you really help me today?" She questioned, staring at the man to see if his character would break.

"He confused you for Mary." Mina took a step back and opened her bedroom door, hoping the man would get the hint.

"Please leave," she finally said.

"Are you sure you are okay?" Mina was behaving in a passive aggressive manner, and he knew it was because of something he had done.

"Thanks to you; I am fine." Mina pointed out of her bedroom door, and President Lee left, but not before staring her down.

---

Matthew and Jay sat silently in the man's car. With the stagnant atmosphere, Jay pulled out her phone and began to text in the group chat that contained Mina, Emma, and oddly enough Dom. Somehow the man had been taken in as 'one of the girls'.

"Are you phubbing me right now?" Matthew asked.

"What?" Jay felt like her ears had heard wrong. "What is phubbing?"

"You're ignoring me so you can play on your phone. Are you texting Chris?" Jay rolled her eyes.

"Yes, and he says hello." Matthew physically felt his face turn red, but there was a way he could get back at Jay for her words, and he would.

----

Eric was impatiently waiting at the front door for his daughter to arrive. He had been texted by Chris that crazy men had led them all to a back room at gunpoint. He tried calling the police, but whoever the men were, had to be big shots because the dispatched officers reported that the scene was clear.

Hearing tires in his driveway, Eric rushed to the front door where Jay was already running to him with a red nose. He hugged his daughter tightly, kissing her forehead, thinking of the stupid argument he had with her the night before. If something had happened to Jay, Eric knew he would never forgive himself, and he knew his wife would die of heartache.

"What happened?" He asked, while guiding his daughter into their home. Jay was relishing in her father's hug. She had really been under the impression that he was too disappointed in her to care.

"Director Hue, may I come inside?" Matthew asked, and Eric nodded. Jay walked inside ahead of the men, wanting to forewarn her mother who she knew had not left to work yet.

Matthew walked into the home and was greeted with the sight of family photos all over the walls. He knew that Jay had a sister named Emma, but he had not known she had other siblings.

"That is Jay's twin brother, he is a doctor in Sani." Matthew then pointed to another girl. "That is my niece, Rachel, but she is more like a daughter to us. She and her husband live nearby."

"I didn't know Jay had a twin."

"You probably didn't ask," Eric replied Coldly. Matthew looked at the older man feeling guilty. The only thing he really knew about Jay was how she liked to be touched.
