Chapter 4

What the fuck am I doing? This is insanely dumb. He thought to himself in the back of the taxi he had switched too after ditching his car in some mall parking lot. The rain hit heavily against the windows of the taxi causing a noise that annoyed his ears since it flooded his thoughts.

"You seem to be in deep thinking son, you alright?" The driver, a much older white bald man who's only source of hair was a beard, asked him while still keeping his eyes on the road.

The boy pondered on the question, of course, he wasn't okay he had just left the love of his life and started realizing how dumb he was. He had good intentions, it wasn't purely selfish he just wanted her to find herself like truly find her self without him, but that wasn't his decision to make for her. Maybe deep down he knew that and like any other teenage boy got scared of commitment and the thought of being confined to his village.

Maybe Ezekiel Martin didn't want to be an Alpha. Or maybe he wanted to be Ezekiel Martin before he was Alpha Ezekiel Martin. You see his dad had put into him at such a young age that he would one day be the Alpha of their pack but he never encouraged him to live how he wanted to live, it was always "you have to do this for the pack" or "the pack wouldn't like this" or even "you're the one person that the pack is gonna depend on soon."

It was in his blood to rule and take care of his people while protecting them but part of him just wanted to be a normal teenage boy. Normal teenage boys weren't werewolf Alphas who's destiny was handpicked by a god, who's soulmate was already at his side. He wanted a normal relationship not a heavily serious planning every day for the future relationship. At sixteen Kennedy had brought up the topic of kids and marriage immediately shaking the boy at his very core.

But maybe if he had just talked to her then he'd realize that there were other ways for him to fix this attitude that'd don't involve abandoning his love, his life, his people, his family and everything he'd already known about life.

Impulsivity was always part of a wolf but this was different. This was like a calling that even though he felt guilty and thought about all the stupid factors to it- it still felt right. So he cleared his mind from all the thoughts of doubts and the shouts that were telling him to turn back and sighed deeply before responding to the driver.

"Just thinking about what I'm gonna do now sir," he smiled politely but then cringed realizing the driver couldn't see his face.

The driver let out a smoker's cough before groaning and responding. "Figure it out, boy?"

"I'm finally eighteen so maybe I'll finish up school, get a small job make a Lil money and who knows, maybe some traveling?" The boy chuckled a little realized he was just winging it.

The driver chuckled too before pressing a button which Ezekiel just assumed was part of the car but would soon find out it wasn't. "So you're a fully grown eighteen-year-old alpha? Out here by your self? How wonderful?"

Still oblivious to the devious nature of the driver's tone Ezekiel not so sceptically asked. "How'd you know I'm an alpha?"

Out of everything the boy's father had taught him, how to see the flags wasn't one of them. "I just know boy. Tell me ain't anyone gonna be worried and looking for you?"

The taxi man was chubby and his voice sounded strained as if he was forcing words out probably from a sore throat while being covered by a long lost accent perhaps.

Again ignored a small but sure red flag the boy responded. "Nobody's gonna come looking for me I hope."

"Hope?"

"There isn't much to my village, I want at least a day away from them. So hopefully no one comes looking for me on their own."

"One? What about yuh pack?" The man coughed again increasing a slight headache in the werewolf's head.

"My dad wouldn't let them."

"Are you sure about that?"

The boy chuckled a little remembering how karma came back to bite his dad in the ass. "I'm sure."

"So what made ya leave?" The driver looked up at the boy from his front mirror.

"Growth? I guess I don't know what to call it but I'm ready for something bigger or normal just away from my village." He sighed, yeah this was a really foolish idea the more he thought about it out loud.

The driver gave him a quick skeptical glance before turning back to the road. "Well, what are you leaving behind boy?"

That's the question that made him regret it. That's the one that immediately got him up and ready to change his mind. He had left one of the most amazing people behind, sure their lives and relationship were boring and ordinary but maybe if he talked to her instead they could find a way to change that. Part of him wanted to beat himself up for even thinking about this making such a discussion. Can you blame him though?

After all, he was just an eighteen-year-old boy who finally succumbed to the pressure that everyone had put on him. Almost every guy in the pack has told him to "treat that woman right and make her happy" but no one had told him how. He supposed that was something he was to figure out on his own but why wasn't it coming faster?

Even if he was to stop this car and halted his journey to finding himself what would he do? Go back to his boring ass village and live his sad and perfectly boring life?

"I guess I'm leaving behind too much?"

The driver laughed and as Ezekiel was about to ask why the driver's laugh got louder and more maniacal. "Right. You're leaving behind a perfect mate, an alpha position in a strong pack for growth? You're a privileged white Alpha male, and your life is hard?"

He didn't know how to respond not really understanding what was happening, a million questions rang through his mind. "How do you know that? What are you talking about- I mean I acknowledge my privilege as a white man but god where is this coming from?"

Ezekiel was all for social justice and equality but part of him couldn't exactly understand where all this sudden aggression was coming from. Yes, he was aware he was leaving a comfortable life that many didn't have the opportunity of having but when someone puts it like that- he felt even stupider.

The driver's voice had taken a sour turn and he couldn't help but become a little bit scared. "All you Alphas think you're unbreakable gods."

It was true, Ezekiel thought to himself, many Alphas thought they were handpicked by God to lead other werewolves. That was more of the older generation of Alpha's though, the younger tend to be more liberated and broke away from traditional conservative norms. Packs were now being led by women, people of different cultures and religions and even people of the LGBT were now more accepted members of the werewolf society. Ezekiel remembers being part of a pride parade when he was younger.

Times were changing and people loved it. "I mean I certainly don't think I'm an unbreakable god."

The driver still shook his head and noticeably drove faster. "Sure you don't."

"No, I don't." He chuckled hoping to bring the conversation lighter. "I'm just 200 pounds of bones, skin, blood, and muscles my guy- one bullet to the heart and I'm done for."

"You're all narcissistic assholes. You think the world revolves around you!" The driver shouted swerving a little on the road.

"Wow, dude chill! You know what- um I think I'll just take it here and get another car." He said hastily wrapping his fingers around his bag straps and his hand holding onto the handle.

"Nope." The driver stiffly replied.

Ezekiel watched him as though he was crazy. "Sir please there's no need to make this messy."

"Messy? What are you gonna do Alpha? Beat the shit out of me?" He chuckled which turned into a laugh.

Not really knowing what was fun Ezekiel chuckled along. "I'd never beat an innocent civilian sir. No matter how angry they make me!"

"Wow, such a Prince Charming with a moral compass." The driver said bored.

"Look please just stop the car let me get out," Ezekiel begged to start to get impatient.

"Here what, if you can open that door then I'll stop the car." Ezekiel being Ezekiel didn't realize how odd that sentence was and attempted to open the door.

"Hey, dude I think your door is stuck?" He nervously said as his wolf became more on the edge more his head or more light.

"No, it's not. It's locked."

"What? Dude, please stop playing games." He asked wearily getting tired of these games.

The driver turned to the backseat making Ezekiel gasp. "Dude the road!"

"This is a Tesla dumbass."

"Why would a taxi driver be driving a Tesla?" His voice wavered due to his uneasiness. He was slightly scared.

"Maybe I'm not a taxi driver."

His eyes widen and he transformed his hand into its wolf claw and immediately tried to beat his way out of the car. The driver reached for him to keep him from being successful but his foot met his face as he pushed him back to the driver's seat.

For a few seconds, he thought his claw was making progress but as he got weaker and weaker he started to doubt that. His vision got blurry and his head felt light as he started being absorbed by the darkness. "That took long enough to kick in."

"What are you doing this to me?" He groggily said trying to punch the door one more time before his arms fully gave out.

All his attempts failed and as he succumbed to the darkness he heard the driver speak one more sentence.

"Long live Angostura."
