Flirting

This will be the last time Cathryn will see Alex. He was going to disappear after tonight. just like what she always wanted.

Cathryn felt queasy in her stomach.

Was that what she always wanted?

Not tonight. Be young and carefree tonight. Don't worry about anything else. Dance, Drink, Laugh. Oh, she forgot. Cathryn didn't drink.

God knows what she would do if she drank some alcohol. She had never tried it, not even once, and she wasn't going to start now.

Shaking her head, Cathryn began to walk down the sand with her high heels to the direction of the stage. It was hard but she needed the extra inches to feel in control. To feel powerful. To avoid being run over by this human bulldozer.

Cathryn reached the dance floor a few seconds later and she realized Alex was trailing behind. Glancing back, she caught him red-handed.

"Are you staring at my butt?"

Alex didn't bother to pretend innocence, his light brown eyes full of wicked appreciation. "Hey, it's a nice butt. And those legs... I want them wrapped around my waist."

Cathryn didn't know why his butt became the topic of conversation but somehow the compliment boosted her confidence. She stopped hunching and stood up straight, lifting her butt and breast in the process.

Cathryn needed to stop feeling self-conscious. Many females were wearing something more revealing tonight. What she didn't understand was why she still had Alex's undivided attention.

"Not going to happen, lover boy." Her lips curled up into a feline smile. "Not in a million years."

"I'm going to wait, Red," Alexander replied, pulling her closer and nibbling on her earlobe. "I could be patient if I wanted to be."

"Pick your tongue up off the floor, Alex," Cathryn smirked as she pulled him, stepping a little distance away from the others so she could play with him a little bit, in private. "Dance. Show me all you've got."

Cathryn put a hand in Alex's neck and brought his face closer. This will be the last time she would see him so it wouldn't matter. For a change, she would like to flirt with a handsome stranger, well, sort of.

Alex's lip twitched as if liking this new side of her. "I like you at the moment. Please don't ruin it with your sharp tongue."

Cathryn snorted. "It's not me who's always ruining the moment. It's you, Alex. For a guy who always get what he wants and a stubborn person who never gives up, you tend to run me over like some kind of human bulldozer. You come off a little too strong and I don't like it. Even if you've got a pretty face. Some girls hate that and we tend to back off. Scare us away."

Tucking his hands into the pocket of his jeans, he rocked back on his heels. "So now you're lecturing me on how I handle females? It's just you who doesn't seem affected when I lay off the charms." No smile now, his brown eyes were darker, solemn. "Cat, for god's sake, it's not like I'm proud of it but girls always fall on their feet and do what I tell them to do. It wasn't that hard. I flirt with them a little and now you're saying I'm coming off too strong? Am I scaring you?"

"Yes," Cathryn answered without hesitation. "Don't call me your girlfriend anymore."

Alex suddenly wrapped his arms around her waist and it caught her off guard. "What if I don't stop?"

"Well, if you don't stop from your intense flirting, then you're not giving me a chance to flirt back. Because I'll be running in the opposite direction." Cathryn gave him her most radiant smile. "Flirting is like playing badminton, you know? The ball has to go back and forth. You can't play it alone."

Cathryn devoured him with her eyes. "Why don't you stay still and wait for me to make my move?"
