Suspicion

They talked about trivial things that would randomly pop up in the conversation—such as hobbies, food, and music preferences and they even talked about zodiac signs.

Blake was a great conversationalist and she admired him for that.

Cathryn was an introvert who had no people skills, whatsoever.

Both of them fell into silence--just enjoying each other's company--and Blake seemed to be fine with it.

Cathryn sighed a relieved sigh.

She wasn't really that good at small talks.

Well, she could try but it will take a lot of effort on her part and she didn't like forcing herself.

It had been a long time since she was outside like this, casually feasting her eyes on things that didn't matter in her everyday life—such as metal doors that have small plates etched with business names on them and signs that say 'No Loitering or Loading Area'.

She was too stuck in her head—in her art—that this served as a reprieve from her own busy mind.

"Blake." Cathryn gently tugged at her hand but Blake didn't let go.

He did the exact opposite and interlocked their fingers together—tighter—as if they were lovers taking a stroll in this lovely evening sharing an umbrella.

Cathryn couldn't deny that she enjoyed the peaceful and quiet walk with Blake.

"Hmm?" Blake said without looking at her as he continuously stared ahead.

They had already walked too far--almost halfway there to the city park-- as they passed the train station.

Her brows wrinkled as she was lost in her thoughts.

Blake was good at sensing the atmosphere.

He knew when to talk and when to shut up without making it awkward for her.

It was hard to find this type of guy these days--who wouldn't only talk incessantly about himself and brag about how cool he was every time he breathed.

Well, Cathryn should take that back.

Blake's type wasn't hard to find because he was a charmer.

Charmers are pretty common.

They would pounce on their innocent victims if they let their guard down.

Cathryn didn't like to read much into it but she was already plagued by a suspicion she just couldn't shake.

Perhaps, this was some kind of bet between the band members.

She suddenly felt a heightened need for a personal distance towards Blake.

It was not Cathryn's intention to assume that she was so beautiful that everybody's worlds revolved around her but she can't help but feel paranoid.

Were they playing a game with her?

Is this some kind of bet between them?

Cathryn glanced up at him as they walked side by side.

She tilted her head and asked him pointedly, "Blake, do you like me?"

There was a pause and Cathryn bit her nails in anticipation.

She had counted to thirty-five before Blake turned his head towards her and replied, "I think 'like' is a pretty strong word—"He shrugged nonchalantly and continued—"but if we use the word 'interested' then yes, I am interested in you."

"Hmm." Cathryn's lips were flat as she narrowed her eyes, squinting ahead. "Interesting."

She didn't speak for a moment, mentally running through everything she had known about the situation.

Blake didn't show any interest in her at the Coachella Party.

Cathryn didn't even remember Alexander being serious about making her his girlfriend, too.

Alexander was just playing around for the meantime and he had made her a target since they met last summer.

She must have been the best at playing hard to get when Alexander continuously latched onto her—always curious and adamant about being a part of her life.

The truth was, she was nothing but a sexual conquest to him.

Cathryn was fully aware that the situation will turn into full three-sixty at any moment's notice.

People change.

Feelings aren't constant, either.

How about Blake then?

What were his motives for hanging out with her?

He just started to show her attention when he dragged her out of the mob to the Hotel Room during their latest concert.

They drank a lot and then they talked some more but Alexander was also there with them.

When was the exact moment when Blake had realized that he was attracted to her?

Boys are so weird.

If they have no particular reason for liking a girl, then she will call them bullshit.

And if Blake started to fancy her because Alexander was giving her attention, then he was in it for the competition.

Whoever she will choose will stroke their egos and they would think they were better than the other guy or something.

Cathryn was just an inconspicuous tree in this stage play—just a mere prop with Alexander and Blake as the main characters.

Disgusting.

Men are players.

Cathryn was carefully preparing an argument now.

"Why do you like me, Blake?" She questioned him and her ears perked up,

Cathryn wondered if that would catch his possible lies by listening to the resonance of his voice and tone intently every time he spoke.

As if startled by her unexpected query, Blake cocked an eyebrow at her and just gazed into her eyes with a quizzical look on his face.

Cathryn also raised an eyebrow, mirroring him and he laughed good-naturedly.

She didn't give up.

Cathryn was so determined that Blake spill his secrets.

"How many girlfriends did you have ever since you were born?" Cathryn prodded further and she didn't even wait for his response. "How many years did these relationships last?"

"You sound like you are interrogating me for a crime I didn't commit," Blake said noncommittally.

She smirked and continued to shoot another question, "Who broke up with whom first?"

"You scare me, Cathryn." Blake frowned as he rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb.

"Good." She smiled cheekily.

That was her intention exactly.

"Is this how you normally interview your potential love interests? Like this was a job position?" Blake had dragged his eyes away from her for the third time.

The bastard continuously dodged her questions, acting all defensive. "If it was, you are doing it the wrong way."
