[Opening the King's Room!]
At that moment a shudder took over the entire room as a small opening appeared in the wall behind Ethan, this shudder also served to help Ethan calm down and think rationally. When the Goblin King died, Ethan simply lost control, now that he knew there was something more behind the attack on Maria, how could Ethan not be frustrated?
'Calm down, asshole... is getting mad now good?' Ethan said to himself.
Using a few minutes to compose himself, Ethan finally sighed and started walking towards the opening in the wall, honestly, whatever wealth those Goblins might accumulate wouldn't be able to attract Ethan's interest, though, if there was a place where he could find it. useful information about the situation, was in the King's room.
Just as Ethan had expected, the Goblin King didn't boast much riches. Indeed, for someone who held the title of King, that Fat Goblin was being very humble.
The hallway that unfolded beyond the door was a little smaller than the last one with just a few different features. This hall did not have jagged pillars like the previous one and its walls had no corners, it was like being inside a giant sphere. In the center of the hall was a wooden throne with a red cloth over it, and connecting the throne and the entrance to the hall, a walkway rose a few inches from the floor.
The King's Room wasn't as messy as the last place Ethan had been, apart from a few old books lying around, there were just some bad jewelry and a small circular object under the Goblin King's throne. Calmly approaching the throne, Ethan took the golden circular object in his hands and inspected it.
[Brotherhood of Ness Coat of Arms!]
[It's like an ID card for Ness Brotherhood members. When injecting some energy into the coat of arms they glowed with a red or blue color, the red color signals that whoever is in possession of the coat of arms is an imposter, while the blue color is confirmation of the member's identity.]
'Ness Brotherhood?'
For a group to have such a recognition system must be something important. What a group like this wants with a simple soul weapon. Obviously that was a strong weapon, but definitely not the best on the market. "The more Ethan thought about it, the more confusing things got.
'Wait... I can't be rushed. I have no way of knowing if this is just the theft of some random Goblin. Anyway, as I have a suspect, I accept that." Ethan waved his hand and the object disappeared into thin air.
That was another function of the system, the inventory. This one, despite being essentially the same inventory as most land games, still worked in a different way. While the inventory in most games is made up of limited slots, the system inventory was a white room which, as Ethan leveled up, got bigger.
'Looks like you're more useful than I thought, system.' Ethan wandered around the King's room putting everything he saw into his inventory.
Ethan was also quite interested in what kind of books someone like the Goblin King would read, Goblins reading books was an unusual event even for Ethan who had researched everything about this race.
[The Book: Sliced Hearts!]
[A romantic comedy.]
[The Book: Love and Me!]
[A drama.]
[The Book: Carapace of Lust!]
[A spicy comedy.]
'Fuck...' Ethan was frozen in place staring at the covers of those books with a strange look, he just didn't know how to feel about the Goblin King's personal taste.
[Book 16 ways to conquer the opposite sex!]
[A self-help book.]
...
[The Breath of Earth]
[A low-grade cultivation technique.]
'This is new...why does the Goblin King have something like this?' Ethan inspected that book well, going through all the pages he tried to find something that referenced the origins of those books, things like dedications by the author, what kind of group had published it or something.
A cultivation technique was not a frivolous thing. The entire village had to save money for years to buy the lowest quality cultivation technique and give it to Elder Rose. Cultivation techniques weren't easy things to steal either, usually whoever had them kept them as a precious treasure, even if it was a low grade cultivation technique.
[You learned the basics of "The Breath of the Earth"!]
Even though Ethan didn't intend to learn that cultivation technique, just the act of reading a few specific pages and excerpts from the book gave him a certain understanding of the contents in it. Apparently this was an effect of his Hyper Intelligence, no matter what kind of information, he would automatically assimilate and process it in his brain.
'So that's how these cultivation techniques work... it seems quite simple.'
Ethan tossed the book into his inventory without much interest and started walking towards the exit. There was nothing else he needed to do there, the goblins were dead, he'd gotten some information and a minimal amount of spoils of war. Staying there would only fuel his chances of getting caught, although Ethan could take advantage of the fact that he was an innocent child "incapable" of doing all that, he still wanted to avoid any kind of trouble.
Once again in the Goblin Hall, Ethan finally allowed himself to react to all that pungent stench of blood and burnt flesh. With an ugly expression, he walked past all the Goblin corpses while pinching his nose, it wasn't long before he found himself breathing in the pure forest air.
'Fortunately the villagers had some kind of mishap and were late…' Ethan thought to himself. However, Ethan knew his father's temper and felt that this delay was strange to say the least. Ethan knew that his father was suspicious of the Goblins and knew that he would inevitably decide to kill them. For him to have delayed this mission by even 1 minute must have been a very serious setback.
Despite everything, Ethan didn't rush or act impulsively. After all, this setback could be something like one of the villagers getting hurt or some random beast that got in your way. However, Ethan knew that if this setback wasn't something John was able to resolve, Ethan would be useless anyway.
The reason he rushed to take care of the Goblins before his father was not because Ethan feared for their safety, in fact Ethan was in such a hurry to be the first to face those little men simply because Ethan wanted an answer to his question. John might not be an expert in the cultivation world, but it would only take a hit or two to deal with the Goblin King, and unlike Ethan, John didn't stop to talk.
Since Ethan already had some time to breathe as he walked through the steep forest terrain dodging logs and bushes on the way, he finally decided to take a quick look at the system.
[New skill: Telekinesis lv1]
[Telekinesis: The ability to move and manipulate objects with the power of your mind. In this phase, this ability will only work on objects that remain in the user's field of vision.]
Ethan didn't really know how the cultivation world worked in this world, of course he knew that cultivating the body was something that could strengthen a person and make them more and more powerful. However, he didn't have any details about it and didn't even know if other people in this world would have abilities like his.
Cultivation and skills could be individual powers, but there was also the possibility that cultivation of the body and skills in this world could be sides of the same coin. What made Ethan doubtful was the fact that the abilities on earth had their origins unknown and appeared only a few years ago, but people in this new world were able to cultivate from the beginning of their existence.
Due to the cultivation technique that Ethan had achieved, he had an idea of how to cultivate his body and take his first steps on that path. But was that what he wanted? Ethan had established in his mind that he would not go back to that life of pointless fights, however, this world had shown him that there was no point in walking away from problems, they would always chase him.
Ethan had already understood that strength in this world was more important than anything. Here strength was even more essential than on earth itself, for the standards, hierarchy, and even culture of this world revolved around the law of the strongest.
'Maybe I've been a fool all this time...' he thought. 'I don't want to go back to my old life, but… do I really want to be powerless if something threatens the safety of those people?' The image of the villagers came to Ethan's mind.
'Perhaps I should adjust to the standards of this world.'
