Dream of the Fallen King

3rd Person POV

(Y/N) continued to walk back to his home, enjoying the beautiful night sky. As well as the peace and quite that came with it.

As he walked, his footsteps echoed through the streets, whereas all other living things were nowhere to be found. This eerie atmosphere didn't bother the young devil in the slightest. His thoughts were on a multitude of different subjects. For instance, what to make for dinner tonight. What movie would be good to watch tonight. If Kohaku enjoyed her tour of the city.

However, as many of these innocent thoughts rattled in his mind, he mainly thought about the many things Chisato had told him. About drawing a line and refusing to surrender, and what it was he needed to protect.

'I know what I need to protect!' He yelled to himself. 'It's Rias, Asia, Issei, and everyone else in my life...They're all I have.'

As his final thoughts vanished he finally arrived to his home. He walked to his front door and entered the key to unlock it. He turned it, releasing a familiar clicking sound, indicating it was now unlocked. He opened the door and entered his home.

"I'm back!" He cried to anyone who may or may not have been home.

He sat down and took of his shoes, only to put on his house slippers. As he stood back up, he heard the sound of soft pattering paws approached him. It sounded like it was coming from the living room. (Y/N) looked up and saw that the tiny footsteps were coming from Kohaku.

"Hey Kohaku." (Y/N) simply greeted with a gentle pat on the head.

"Hello Master, welcome back. How was your evening?" She asked.

"Eh, more of the same I guess." He stated.

The two began to make their way to the living room, (Y/N) would finally have a chance to relax.

"By the way Master, Lady Asia has been acting rather restless lately." Kohaku claimed. "She became so worried that she had to call someone."

"Call someone? Why? And who did she ca-" By the time the two arrived at living room, (Y/N) was met by a large collection of police officers, detectives and huge amounts of equipment all over the living room. Some of them sat by Asia trying to comfort her, which didn't seem to be working as she continued to cry her eyes out. "Uh...why is there law enforcement in our house?" He asked his familiar.

"You'll have to thank Lady Asia for that." Kohaku stated. "She got so worried when I told her that you were in danger, she eventually called the local authorities because no one knew where you were after the incident."

Asia slowly looked up and saw (Y/N) standing in the door way, completely fine. And all he did was wave. "(Y/N)...You're okay!" She cried before she began bawling and running into the boy's chest, hugging him as tightly as she possibly could.

"Woah!" He laughed in surprise, only to return the supposed hug. "Hello to you too As-" (Y/N) was immediately silenced with a loud and seemingly hard slap to his cheek. "Ow! What was that for?!" He asked, clearly surprised by how hard this blonde former sister could hit.

"Do you have any idea how worried I was?!" She cried.

"What are you talking about?!" (Y/N) asked, clearly confused.

"I take it that you're (Y/N) (L/N)?" One of the police officers asked as he approached the young devil.

"Uh yes sir." (Y/N) confirmed.

"We'd like to ask you some questions if you don't mind." The officer inquired as he pulled out a note pad and pen.

(Y/N) groaned loudly in his mind, but he complied regardless, just to get these people out of the house.

Time Skip

After many hours of answering questions, feeling more and more like an interrogation, they officers finally left. Leaving (Y/N) and Asia to resume their night.

The two sat on the couch and watched a movie, where Asia laid on top of the young devil. Holding on as tightly as she could.

"Asia, you know at some point you're gonna have to me let go." He said, trying to get the poor girl to loosen her tight hold on him.

"No! I have no idea what you're going to throw yourself into if I let you go on your own again. I'm gonna hold onto you forever!" She shouted.

"Even when I go to the bathroom?" (Y/N) asked, feeling uneasy about what her answer might be.

"Yes!" Asia didn't even hesitate to answer.

"Yeah that's not gonna happen." (Y/N) said defiantly.

"Why not?!" She asked.

"Because I like privacy when I handle my business?!" He exasperated.

Asia only shook her head stubbornly in response.

This seemed like it would go on forever. But (Y/N) suddenly remembered that he was responsible for this. Even though he wanted to be freed from this suffocating grip Asia had on him, he still felt terrible for making her worry so much about him.

"Asia, I'm sorry I didn't tell you what happened." He began holding her in his own arms, slightly surprising Asia. "And I'm sorry I worried you. But you have to know, when something happens, I can't just turn the other way. Not when I know I can do something about it." He explained.

"...I know." Asia murmured as she gripped tightly onto his shirt. "I just...I just don't want to see you hurt. When Kohaku told me that you were in danger, I feared the worst. And I know I can't stop you from doing all the things you do, even the dangerous things, I can't help but to worry. I care deeply for you." She looked up, practically on the verge of tears.

(Y/N) held her closer, tightening their embrace as tears began to stream down her cheeks.

"Asia, I haven't survived this long on my own by having people worry about me. I've survived this long on my own because people had faith in me. That I can handle myself when things got tough." (Y/N) pulled Asia away and looked at her in the eyes, being red and puffy from crying. He gently whipped the tears away with his hand, only for the gentle devil to hold it on her cheek. "You were a nun, you believe in faith right?" He asked.

"Of course I do." She replied.

"Then have faith in me. Believe that whenever things get bad, I'll stop at nothing to make things better. Okay?"

"...Okay." Asia murmured once more. She hugged (Y/N) once more before loosening her grip for good.

"Okay, now let's finish this movie. But first..." He hopped off of the couch. "I NEED TO GO TO THE BATHROOM!" He shouted as he ran to the restroom nearby.

Time Skip

As (Y/N) lay in his bed, Kohaku laid on the foot of it, gently purring as she slept.

"Kohaku?"

"Yes Master?" She replies drearly.

"When I was at the convenience store, and the robbers came in, did you sense that I was in any danger?" He asked as he looked down his bed towards the White God Beast.

"I did detect something, but I knew you could handle whatever it was." She claimed proudly.

"Oh, well thank you." (Y/N) thanked. "I just wish Asia wouldn't worry so much."

"I even told Lady Asia it was nothing to worry about. But someone called her and told her to look on the television and she saw you on the scene of the incident." She was explained.

"Great..." The young devil groaned.

His eyes began to feel heavy, as the feeling of sleep began to take its hold on him. He shifted around in his bed and tremors to get comfortable before he allowed sleep to overtake him. "I'm going to sleep now Kohaku, sweet dreams." He said before falling asleep.

"Good night Master."

Now, all that lay before (Y/N) was the pitch black of nothingness that lay before him as he rested his eyes for the night. However, as he lay there content in his sleep, something compelled him to awaken rather abruptly.

War Torn Field

His eyes shot wide open, only to find himself in a place unfamiliar to him. It looked more of a war zone than any other place he had seen. Fallen knights, blood covered swords, ruined flags lay everywhere. The sky was ominous and very little sun came petering in from behind the clouds.

"What is this? Is this a dream?" He asked himself.

Over in the distance, he noticed that one of the fallen knights were still moving atop the hill. Their movements seemed rather sluggish and more of a person who's been wounded. They eventually fell to the ground, barely hanging on by the hilt of their sword.

"Oh crap! Hang on!" He yelled as he ran towards the person who appeared like they were in desperate need of aide. He arrived by the person's side and knelt down to their level. "Are you okay?" He asked.

The person slowly looked at the (H/C) boy, only to reveal a blonde woman with green eyes, blood on her face and eyes that looked as though they had been crying for hours and had become lifeless.

"...Child, what are you...doing here?" She asked, clearly in pain.

"I...have no idea. I just kinda...woke up here. But I saw you and you look like you needed help."

The woman only laughed weakly, only to stumble as she tried to walk away. She only made it a few steps away before falling again. Thankfully (Y/N) had caught her.

"Go home boy...This is no place...for you." She inquired as she tried to keep moving.

"Listen, you have to stop. You're hurt and you're not making it any better by forcing yourself to keep going!" (Y/N) scolded as he tried to hold her back.

"I can't...I have failed...my duties as a...as a King. I must...return this...to the...la-" She was on the verge of passing out, or worse, dying. She collapsed once more into (Y/N)'s arms.

(Y/N) looked down at her hands and saw a beautiful golden and blue sword, covered in blood. Even unconscious, she managed to hold onto it tightly in her hands.

'This must be what she's trying to return.' He thought. He could feel the divine magical energy radiating off of it with ease. It felt like a Holy object, or something similar.

He laid the woman in armor down and looked around for something. He managed to find some cloth on one of the knights and pulled it off of them, wrapped up the blade, and around the woman's back.

"Heilen." He preceded, as warm and healing light shined down from his hand and onto the woman in armor, but it only seemed to work a little bit.

He gently lifted her onto his back and began walking away from the battle field, leaving the scars and remnants of war behind.

Time Skip

After walking quite a while, the young woman clad in blue wearily opened her eyes only to see that she was moving, not on her own accord however, but by the man she had barley met mere moments ago.

"...Where are you taking me?" She asked.

"Well, you said you needed to go somewhere, so I'm taking you there." He replied.

The blonde knight only stared at him with an uneasy expression. "I haven't even said where I needed to go." She said.

"Oh I know, but seeing how this is a dream, I figured we would get there eventually, regardless." He explained, making the knight look in slight disdain.

"...You're lucky we're going the right way already." She bickered.

"Thanks." He replied as he continued walking, carrying the woman in his back.

After while they came at a cross road and the knight struggled to get off (Y/N) back.

"I appreciate your assistance child, but this is were we part ways." She said, instantly feeling pain again as she tried to move.

"Yeah, that's not gonna happen. You're wounded and dying, and you're trying to go somewhere. I'm not just gonna let you do this by yourself. I'll carry you there, just tell me where to go." He ordered.

"But...This has nothing...to do with you." She groaned.

"So what? Someone can't help someone without having an anterior motive?" He asked.

The female knight looked at him, only to chuckle as she tried to relax herself on his back once more, allowing (Y/N) to do what he's been trying to do. "Very well, I shall allow your aid. I will guide you to our destination."

"Good! 'Cause I have absolutely no idea where we're going and I'm terrible with directions." He claimed, earning an adorable giggle from the young woman.

"Oh my, what have I gotten myself into?" She asked as she chuckled, clearly sounding better than she had a few moments ago.

"I ask myself that question everyday." (Y/N) replied.

"Very well. I shall guide you as we travel." She said. "For now, go on the left path."

"You got it." And he began walking down that direction.

Time Skip

The two had been traveling for what seemed like days. However, the feeling of sleep, hunger or exhaustion was lost completely to them both.

'I guess the fact that this is a dream helps a bit. I don't have to feel tired doing this.' He thought.

As time moved on, the king and young devil had managed to arrive at a large forest. The bright yellow sun shines brilliantly down from the cracks in the trees. The wind blew gently in a gentle breeze.

However, the longer they had traveled, the more the atmosphere between them vanished. (Y/N) grew a little uncomfortable by this, but he didn't do anything on the matter. That is until he remembered something the young woman had said before they began their journey.

"Hey, so I gotta ask. You're a King, but you're a woman? Is the title of king just that? A title?" He asked. "And don't ask me if I just assumed you gender. It's blatantly obvious that you're a woman. I get enough of that shit in the real world so I don't need it in a damn dream." He grimaced.

"...No. I am not a woman. I am a knight and a king. My position as King is what defines me." She growled, clearly unhappy with the question.

"But being a woman and a knight, let alone a King? What's wrong with being both?" He asked with a sincere smile. "I mean, my Master is a girl and she's a King...but I don't think it's the same concept." He laughed lightly. "But, she's still incredible. She's wise, caring, strong and confident. You almost remind me of her in that regard." He smiled once more.

The blonde knight was speechless. Her cheeks grew slightly red for some bizarre reason that befuddled (Y/N), but he let it go and continued walking.

Suddenly, the woman tugged on his shirt, prompting him to stop.

"What's up?" He asked.

"We're here." She said.

Now, here the two stand. Before a massive lake engulfed in fog. Though the fog parted ways after a brief moment, the young devil walked to a nearby tree and laid the woman in blue down on the ground, having her face the lake.

"So, what is it you wanted to do here exactly?" He asked.

"I wanted to return this." She held onto her wound as she turned to reach her gold and blue sword, it still radiated with holy divinity. "I am unworthy to have such a thing...I am a failure as a King." She grimaced as she tightened her hold on the grip of the presumably holy weapon.

"What is it?"

"Please...throw it into the lake. I haven't the strength to do it on my own." She pleaded.

(Y/N) just stared at her in shock. 'She wants to get rid of it?!' He shouted in his mind. He hesitated, but slowly grabbed the sword and walked over to the foot of the cape of the lake. He raised it up into the air, preparing to throw it deep into the water. However, he still seemed hesitant. "...No."

"What?" She asked.

"I said I'm not going to do this." He replied, turning back to face the dying woman. He walked towards her and handed her back the weapon. "A warrior should be laid to rest with their weapon, no matter if they failed or not." He said.

He walked to her side and sat against the tree as well. "Besides, who cares if you failed. The important this is that you keep trying. Try and try again, until you succeed." He preached, and the woman just looked down disheartened. "Listen, I'm not sure what exactly happened to you to make you call yourself a failure as a King, but as long as you served your people the best you could, and the people served you back the best they could, then that's not a failed King. But...if the King put the people above themselves and the people did nothing in return, then the failure falls upon the people...not the King."

The woman began to sob as she held onto her sword as tightly as she could. She eventually broke down and began crying. Tears streamed down her face, she couldn't stop no matter how hard she tried.

(Y/N) held her in his arm, attempting to comfort her. Letting her continue to weep and cry her tears of sorrow. "It's okay." He whispered as he gently rubbed her back. "It's gonna be okay. Go ahead, let it all out." He said.

Her cries of sorry eventually stopped, and the two continued to stare out towards the lake. However, as they did, a sudden realization popped into (Y/N)'s head. "Hey uh...So I just realized that we don't even know each other's names." He claimed. "We've traveld so far and long together, not once did we bring up our names." He laughed awkwardly. "I'm (Y/N) (L/N)."

"My name is Arthur Pendragon." She said.

"I see. So you're King Arthur. Who would've thought that King Arthur was actually a beautiful maiden?" He smiled slyly, reviving a blush from the woman. "But...I want to know your real name. Can you please tell me?"

"...It's Artoria." She smiled. "Artoria Pendragon."

"...I like that name. It's very pretty." He said.

Everything quickly faded to white, and (Y/N)'s eyes shot wide open, only to find himself staring at a familiar ceiling. He slowly looked around and saw that he was back in his room. He groaned as rubbed his eyes. He got out of bed and opened his curtains, allowing the bright beautiful sun to shine it's gorgeous light into his room and onto him.

"Another beautiful day today." He praised as he stretched. "Well, time to get things started."

He did his usual routine of bathing, dressing, and cooking. With the addition of waking up Asia.

The innocent blonde devil came downstairs and greeted her fellow devil and friend as he prepared breakfast for everyone. The two ate and gathered their things before heading out. Until (Y/N) realized that he had forgotten something.

"I'll be right back. I forgot something upstairs." He said, bolting off to his room. He looked around and saw the pendant Chisato gave him as part of their contract. He put it on and made his way back downstairs to join Asia in their journey to school, for another day in the abnormal life they both live.
