Sine and Cosine

-Your POV-

When you woke up, you wanted to believe that the previous night's events were only a dream, so that Park Jisung and Zhong Chenle weren't holding any secrets. Where they were just the same innocent and mysterious boys that were your classmates. If only it were true. Jisung was an assassin. Chenle was a boy who knew how to shoot a gun. Who else was bound to join this crazy boat? Jeno with a sword? Jaemin throwing knives? Haechan holding a sniper rifle? Perhaps, even Renjun as a secret agent?

You slowly rolled out of bed and got ready for school, per usual, pulling on your uniform, grabbing your bag and sliding into your shoes. Then, you were off to the bus stop.

You were surprised to find Jisung sitting in the same spot he always sat in on the bench, looking like a normal high school student. You also noticed that his hair was back to light brown, rather than platinum blonde.

"Jisung?" The boy looked up from his book and smiled, cordially, the polar opposite of his persona last night.

"Good morning, Y/N!" he said, then went back to reading.

The school day slipped away as if nothing had ever happened. No news of anything suspicious came about; Chenle was still laughing at Jaemin's terrible jokes with his dolphin laugh and Jisung was still reading his physics book. Normal. But at the same time, not normal.

After school, you went to the library to study since you were going to have a test over calculus, next week. You were just putting in your headphones to jam out to your favorite music when the chair beside you shifted as the brown-haired boy sat next to you with his books.

"Jisung?"

He nodded to you before opening his math textbook and pointing to the page that covered a topic that you knew quite decently, "Can you help me with this?" He asked, sheepishly.

You looked at the boy, confounded, unable to believe your ears. Park Jisung was a legend at math and science; you had experienced it firsthand in class. And he was asking you for help?

"Sure..." you nudged your chair closer to him and began to work through the concept of identities, piece by piece.

"So tangent is equal to sine over cosine. Thus, in order to simplify your problem, you can make the tangent equal to that and cancel out similar terms so that you can get your answer in the simplest form." You were explaining a problem to him and happened to glance up, only to find his eyes training on your face instead of on the paper.

"Jisung?" You waved your hand in front of his face. He blinked, caught off guard, and looked back down at the paper as if nothing happened, but you could tell that he was blushing because his ears were tomato red.

"So then I can cancel out these terms and then the problem will be simplified? And what about if I have cotangent?"

"Cotangent is just equal to cosine over sine, " you explained, grinning when you saw the look of bewilderment on the boy's face. But to be honest, you could see why so many of the students in your class were always getting stuck on this unit since there were so many concepts and rules to remember. You were just lucky that you knew what you were doing.

It was 5:00 by the time that you had finished with your studies, even though most of the time was spent with Jisung. But at least you had more fun than you usually did. And saying that math was fun was rare, these days.

"Hey, can I have your number in case I need to ask any questions?" Jisung muttered, his face red. He held out his phone to you.

You laughed and took his phone before putting in your number. You saved your name as Y/N<3 before handing it back to him with a smile.

"Bye Jisung!" you said, as you both split paths, you headed to your tutoring center and Jisung headed in the opposite direction. The boy waved goodbye.

You walked down the sidewalk listening to your music and minding your own business, not paying attention to the traffic lights ahead as you crossed the road. Glancing up, you were met with the sight of a large white van barreling towards you at full speed, the driver behind the wheel frantically trying to press on brakes that wouldn't work. There was no time to react. You just shut your eyes, waiting for the impact.

Something hit you, knocking all the breath from your lungs. Your feet were swept off the ground, sending you flying in the air for what felt like an eternity.

This is it, I'm officially dead, you thought, waiting to see white. For a second, you almost thought that you did.

Instead, time resumed its hurried pace, and you felt the impact of your body hitting the pavement, cushioned slightly by something. Slowly, you peeled open your eyes to find yourself safely out of the way of the van, which continued down the road before hitting a nearby street lamp pole. The vehicle came to a halt with a loud crunch of metal and glass.

You slowly glanced around, wondering what happened and how you didn't get hit by the van. Was it a guardian angel? Did you just discover some new power? Did something inexplicably pick you up and move you out of the way? Now that the trauma was over, you noticed a constricting pressure around your waist, causing you to look down to find a pair of arms wrapped tightly around you. Your eyes followed the hands to their owner and you peeked behind you, craning your neck as you were met by a familiar face. A face that should have been miles away by now after you had split paths to go your separate ways after the library study session.

*So how the heck did he get here?

"Yah, did you follow me here?" was your first question as you slowly peeled yourself away from the boy.

He didn't meet your gaze.

"Park Jisung, are you okay?"

"I think so-" he began nervously plucking at the sleeves of his sweater.

"So did you or did you not follow me here?"

"I did."

"Why?"

There was a moment of silence.

And then, so quietly that you almost didn't catch his words,

"Because I like you, Y/N."
