Order to Charge

"Command has given us permission to begin the assault. The second unit will begin reinforcing this position in the event we lose. Once we take this area, we will hold it down until the third unit creates a trench line leading here. Disperse and await the whistle." The officer ordered.

Corbin joined with a small group of fellow soldiers, hiding behind a mound on the right side, the heat continued beating them down while they waited.

The whistle sounded, all at once, a horde of heavy coated soldiers ran towards the trench.

Bolts of red and yellow began flying towards them, slamming into soldiers, sending them to the ground. Their pace quickened along with their footing, their hearts beated faster and adrenaline filled their veins as they went onwards, the fatigue they felt earleir was now gone. Now focusing only on the enemy at the front.

Corbin jumped down the trench, his foot landed on an enemy, sending him to the ground. The remaining soldiers rapidly poured in, opening fire on the defenders. Corbin joined, shooting at the defenders who now began running back.

Advancements began as they traversed through differing paths, all heading one direction, forward.

As they advanced, a small ball flew above the air, landing on the ground next to him.

A flash of light blinded him, in a second, silence followed. The light soon dissipated, there was only darkness all around.

What felt like forever, light soon began glowing, expanding further and further until an image began forming.

His eyes opened to a large light beaming above him.

Gasping, he sat bolt upright, around him were people in similar military suits, medics. He was in a small room filled with medical equipment.

Calming down, he took deeper breaths.

"How long was i gone?" He asked one of the personnel standing around the medical bed.

"Well the unit hasn't returned so not long." The person responded, a female.

"Damnit." Corbin jumped down from the bed, frustrated. He was no longer wearing his gear, only in his army fatigues.

"Thanks by the way." He thanked the medics.

"No problem, but before you leave." Corbin stopped, looking at the medic who spoke.

"Your gear is waiting for you at the quarters." He continued.

Corbin turned, facing forward. Inside an elevator, the doors shut as the medics stared at him, quickly running to a different room to tend to something else.

The trip was silent and quick. The doors opened after just a few seconds. Outside was the hallway of the soldiers, different rooms for different military purposes strewn on both sides.

Corbin made his way to the quarters, around him, soldiers were walking around with their weapons rested.

He reached the quarters, just like what the medic said, a set of gear rested on his bed along with a rifle. Wasting no time, he began wearing it, sealing his new body in the protective gear. Bearing a new rifle.

"The hell even killed me." He questioned, his frustration still not going away as he pondered on those last few seconds.

"I gotta join with them."

Corbin ran out with his new gear, running through the dirt hall. To the lift.

The doors closed, quickly beginning to ascend, faster than normal.

Up above, the metal gate slowly opened back to the unforgiving, trench bearing wasteland, the sun still beamed down heat. Soldiers stood under any shade they could find while guarding. Corbin walked past them, moving faster than normal, breathing harder through his mask.

The air above all surfaces was blurry. From the objects down at the trenches to the edges of the top of it.

Corbin arrived at the trench, seeing the rope, still extended out. He began running out of the trench as he followed the rope.

Fatigued but still urging to fight, he got closer, hearing the rifle fire, and the sound of explosions?

Down inside the trench, he stood with other soldiers, still staying on the rear while the rest fought.

Peering down the jagged corridor, some soldiers began running back, as explosions continued.

A small ball bounced on the walls of the corridor, in reflex, Corbin moved back, just in time as a cloud of dust rapidly formed in the trench corridor as dust flew up, falling back down like rain.

Feelings of shock and disbelief filled the soldier's minds.

"The hell are they throwing at us!?" One of the soldiers yelled.

As the smoke cleared, they started making their way down, explosions ahead of them went on as the sounds of rifle fire intensified.

He got out of the corridor, entering another, inside, soldiers were already takign cover as explosions blinded the front while bolts flew through it. Corbin immediately hid behind one of them, seeing bolts continue passing by while the noise of explosions got louder and louder.

Fear began taking hold on his mind, in his time of fighting he never seen something like this.

"I only saw rifles and pistols, what the fuck is this!?" He shouted in annoyance from the intense firefight, his composure started breaking. Soldiers moving away from cover were immediately shot, down. He can feel the vibration as the explosions tore the trench itself, creating pits in the middle and breaking wooden supports, disfiguring the corridor itself.

The noises slowly ceased, as the final rainfall of dirt and dust ended.

All at once, soldiers emerged out of cover, opening fire back through the dissipating smoke, slowly descending down a pit formed in front, they ran upwards. Shooting whatever was in front of them. Corbin got out of the pit, only to see crates blocking the way forward. With the others, they began tearing the wooden makeshift barricade to shreds, destroying it quickly as the opponent behind it was riddled in rifle shots.

They vaulted above the broken cover, heading forward, deeper in the trench line, soldiers formed up in arrow shapes in the tight area. Looking around, from the way forward to the top of the sides.

Their composure returned as they marched on, now with no more noises of explosions ringing their ears.
