"What?! Who is on the run?" Mina queried, perturbation registering on her eyes.

The second he saw her reaction, Carlos gazed at the countenances of the individuals who were surrounding the conference table, wary of inciting panic among them.

Before he responded, he gave Mina a signaling nod. The woman recognized what the investigator wanted to do, so she faced her subordinates right away.

"Everyone, please go back to your stations. We will resume this meeting tomorrow morning." Mina announced, prompting the others to stand up from their seats.

They all made their way outside of the room, remembering to wordlessly give their farewells to the people who were left inside Mina's office.

Once the four of them were alone, Carlos confronted Mina.

"Miss Lohnmeyer, we were just notified that the bodies of Frank and Molein - the suspects of the invasion of Miss Rosenfeldt's apartment - were stolen from the morgue of St. Kitts and Nevis Medical Hospital. Emergency dispatch was issued to search for the culprits, but I think it will take a while to catch them, considering that they were able to slip through the hospital's surveillance."

Carlos' low tone came off as grievous rather than calm, igniting the worst anxieties in Mina's heart.

Syn, in the meantime, was not at all bothered regarding her safety. Her mind was busy poring over the possibility of her family getting involved.

"Excuse me, Mr Orlow, What would happen to my family? I'm positive that Larry knows about them too." She frantically asked Carlos as she let her phone drop on the carpeted floor, banging her crumpled fists on the table.

"Miss, we have no information on your family members, so they were taken out of the investigation as subjects of interest. However, are you certain?"

"Yes, you are aware of my experience being stalked for two months, right? I relayed that incident during the police interview yesterday. I'm sure that it's Larry who ordered it. It might not be far-fetched to assume that he also did a background check on me. I returned to my hometown last month. I'm afraid that he had me followed by someone." Syn explained, her voice quivering a tad.

Mina hurriedly went to stand by Syn's side to comfort her. She started to caress the lady's back as she listened to the conversation.

"Miss Rosenfeldt, please provide the address where your family is currently staying. Travis, call the chief." Carlos said while he picked up a pen and his notepad from his backpack. "Go ahead."

"Forsthausstr. 15, Friedberg Hessen, Germany. My mom and three brothers are the only ones living there."

"That's in a different country. We might have a difficult time coordinating with the police there."

"I understand, but please do your best. My mom is not in the best of health, and my brothers are all minors." Syn beggingly uttered as her nerves were near to breaking down. Thankfully, she could lean on Mina who was beside her.

"We're going to what we can," Carlos told Syn, taking the phone that Landon was handing over to him.

Concurrently, Mina dragged her seat and put it adjacent to Syn's. She then seated herself, patting Syn's head along the act.

"Dear Syn, I know that you want to cry, but be strong for now. This will all end soon." Mina uttered words of comfort to the lady who she treated as her younger sister.

Syn was more than grateful that she there's someone who she could run to, completely so that she acknowledged Mina to be a part of her family instead of her actual uncle.

The lady merely replied with a stifled cry, allowing herself to be relieved by Mina's consolation. Tranquillity well needed by Syn descended in between the two, easing the tension just enough for them to maintain a rational mind.

The instant that he was finished talking with the chief, Carlos went back to his chair and proceeded to face the women.

"Miss Rosenfeldt, our chief will contact the German police soon. However, if there is no concrete threat, they won't be able to do anything beyond paying your family a visit. You'll have to inform your mother that the police will be coming around to meet them." The investigator said, trying to tell his statement in a way that wouldn't add to Syn's frets.

The lady didn't reply, aware that complaining wouldn't change anything. On the other hand, Mina hoisted the phone that was on the floor, consequently turning it on to look up a particular contact number. Once she found it, she tapped on the call button, giving it to Syn thereafter.

"Here, take it," Mina said, but Syn simply scrutinized the device.

This made Lohnmeyer sigh, frustrated regarding the young lady's state. She knew better than to upset Syn with what she had done. Withal, she also realized that the longer Rosenfeldt delays in communicating the news to her family, the more perilous it would become for everyone involved.

"I called your mother, so talk to her. You need to tell Raeliana everything. You can't keep her in the dark forever."

"What?! You called her? Mina! You know I can't! You are in no place to do this!" Rather than shouting out of hysteria, Syn was distraught. The tears that have been threatening to fall from her eyes, ever since she was nearly assaulted or perhaps further back, began to stream down.

Mina was flustered, validly so, because it was the first time that she saw Syn grievously weep. She quickly took out the handkerchief that was in her pocket and started to wipe the lady's tears.

"I'm sorry, dear. Don't cry anymore, okay?"

Syn simply continued to sniff, not caring about the people who were watching her. Accordingly, the two investigators diverted their gazes, oblivious of what to do in a circumstance as such.

Landon nighed his comrade, bending his knees to whisper on Carlos' left ear, "Orlow, I'll just wait for our back up downstairs. You can brief Miss Rosenfeldt on what she needs to do when the police mobile comes."

Carlos gave Travis a nod, as he exhaustedly observed the latter's departure. It was only the beginning of a prolonged day for them.
