Surface Fears

"Do we have to go up there?" Kaia signed, pulling at Max's sleeve as the man began to climb up the narrow steps. The four stood at the bottom, staring up at him.

"Are you still scared of heights?" Max asked kindly, "You can hold my hand if you feel sacred."

Kaia shook her head. It's not too bad of a place but it just brings back memories she would much rather forget about.

"What's wrong?" Carlotta asked, turning to look at Kaia and Max.

"Kaia doesn't want to go up." He said, holding his hands out at them.

"What's wrong, Kaia?" Carlotta was at her side in a second, "Do you have a bad feeling about this?"

She shook her head and looked up, in a flash, the memory of what was, came back. Screams, pains and blood.

Gasping heavily as she attempted to steel her nerves and push that awful memory away. She took reluctant steps back and looked at the houses looking over her like they are judging her.
