Proposal

Carlotta's eyes suddenly shot open as she breathed in and out, heavily.

She turned to her side to see Kaia still sleeping beside her. The outside world is still very dark and she touched her face, breathing a sigh of relief once she felt her warmth on her palms.

Turning back on her back, she stared at the ceiling as her mother's words resonated throughout her mind.

"They never grow to be adults." She repeated, looking at Kaia again and then the ceiling before she frowned. "Kaia will grow to be an adult, mother. She will."

Sighing, she pulled the covers over the girl, tucking her in properly before pulling her own covers properly as well.

But try as she might, she could not sleep anymore.

The memory of Kaia falling from that ledge flashed through her mind in repeat. No matter how hard she tried to shake it off her mind, it would come over and over again.

"I was never afraid of dying." She whispered to herself in the darkness.
