Chapter 62 - Search and Destroy (1)

Shallot and the girls looked seeing who was the hunter seeing that it was one of their professors Dr. Oobleck. Everyone had their bags along with Shallot carrying his duffle bag with his travel gear.

Weiss: "Professor Oobleck?"

Shallot: "Dr. Oobleck Weiss."

Oobleck started speaking quickly as usual.

Oobleck: "Yes, I'm afraid those bags won't be necessary, seeing as you've opted to shadow a Huntsman on what is now essentially a reconnaissance mission. I can assure you, we will not be establishing a single base of operations; rather, we will be traversing several miles of hazardous wasteland and making camp in any defendable locations we may stumble upon. I packed all of our essentials myself, plotted our air course, and readied the airship. And...

Oobleck zooms up to Weiss's face and turns his head towards Shallot.

Oobleck: "Yes Shallot, it is Dr. and not "professor". I didn't earn the Ph.D. for fun, thank you very much! Ms. Schnee, you should learn from your teammate."

Dr. Oobleck then quickly backs away from in front of them.

Weiss had a disturbed look on her face and looks towards Shallot who is only smiling at her as if it isn't his concern at all.

Oobleck: "Come now, children; according to my schedule, we are already three minutes behind! (Then, as an afterthought to clarify:) ...schedule!

Ruby: "Well, alright, then! Looks like we're going to save the world with Doctor Oooobleck- okay yeah when you say it out loud it sounds worse."

Shallot: "It's not that bad Ruby. He may have his quirks but he is a professional hunter after all and he is still alive to this day which means he is doing something right.

A loud, hyperactive voice sounded out from behind them.

Nora: "Save the world?"

Team RWBYS turns around to see Nora and Team JNPR approaching.

Shallot waved his hand towards them.

Shallot: "Hey Nora. Are Ren's pancakes still delicious?"

Nora hearing this drools slightly then refocuses.

Nora: "As always."

Nora started being dramatic.

Nora: "You're going on world-saving missions without us? I'm hurt... sad!"

Nora's stomach grumbles still thinking about the pancakes she didn't get this morning.

Nora: "Maybe a little hungry? That last one's not your fault, though, Ren..."

Lie Ren, simply crosses his arms, and turns away.

Jaune: "Sounds exciting. Where ya going?"

Ruby cut in this time.

Ruby: "Oh, just outside the kingdom..."

Nora: "Hey! So are we!"

Pyrrha: "Ren and Nora wanted to shadow the sheriff of a nearby village."

Ren: "We set out tomorrow."

While they were talking Neptune and Sun walked up wearing crime scene specialist outfits.

Neptune: "Then you can party with us tonight!"

Weiss can be seen with stars in her eyes looking at Neptune while he's talking.

Neptune: "We're shadowing a crime specialist. All inner-city detective stuff. We get junior badges."

Jaune is awestruck.

Sun: "We normally go to the city with you guys, which means stuff's always exploding and junk, so we thought this might be a better way to check out the kingdom when it's, you know... normal."

Shallot: "So, I'm guessing you just want to live a boring life before becoming professional hunters then. When you become a hunter most likely explosions and fighting is what you're going to do most of the time."

Sun: "That... I... ok you have a point but I want to see the city for once since we're here and being with you guys is going to make it kinda hard."

Ruby grabbed her chest over her heart as if an arrow pierced it from his harsh remark.

Ruby: "Well-"

Oobleck appears from the airship to call to Team RWBYS, who are embarrassed except for Shallot who was sliding an energy bar to Nora knowing what it's like being hungry before having to go somewhere.

Nora nods before eating the energy bar feeling a lot fuller than she usually would with her stomach sticking out slightly from where it usually is.

Nora: "This is amazing."

Nora yells out towards everyone.

Shallot: "That's a high compact energy bar made to feed 3 people."

Ren looked at Nora thinking that he may need to ask Shallot how to make them so Nora won't ask him to cook so often throughout the day.

Shallot waves at Team JNPR before heading to the airship to get to their destination.

While Shallot is walking he hears Dr. Oobleck while he is stepping out of the airship calling towards the girls who are still off to the side talking to Pyrhha and John about what they have been doing lately.

Oobleck: "Four minutes, ladies!"

Oobleck seeing that Shallot was already close to the ship didn't call for him. Shallot put some ki into his legs while taking another step appearing next to Dr. Oobleck before walking into the ship with Dr. Oobleck's eyes widening seeing his speed that he found it hard to follow but could barely see it.

Oobleck: 'Impressive indeed. Professor Ozpin was correct that Beacon academy would be safe if we could convince him to be a teacher here after he graduated.'

Ruby: "Well, uh..."

Ruby throws a thumbs-up.

Ruby: "Wish us luck!"

After that, they all went to the ship to join Dr. Oobleck and Shallot inside with Ruby being on one side while Blake being on the other hugging an arm each.

The airship took off flying towards their mission location.

Yang turned to Dr. Oobleck to talk to their huntsmen guide.

Yang: "I guess I just never saw you as much of a fighter."

Oobleck: "I admit I fancy myself more of an intellectual, but I can assure you, as a Huntsman, I've had my fair share of tussles."

Ruby tilted her head in confusion

Ruby: "Like the mushroom?"

Blake turned to look past Shallot who was trying not to laugh

Blake: "Those are truffles."

Ruby was scratching her head in befuddlement

Ruby: "Like the sprout?"

Yang looked over towards Ruby.

Yang: "Those are Brussels."

Shallot just lovingly caressed Ruby's head thinking that she was adorable thinking about how he knows all of the vegetables and wonders if it has anything to do with being a Saiyan since they are named after them.

Oobleck: "Besides, given my expertise in the field of history as well as my dabblings in the archaeological surveys, our dear headmaster saw fit to assign me to this particular... assignment!"

Shallot: "Most likely because you have experience with many different types of Grimm you would be able to report back to him in case there are any dangerous Grimm amongst the group if we come across them."

Weiss: "What does history have to do with this?"

Dr. Oobleck turned sharply on Weiss.

Oobleck: "Why, what a preposterous question, you silly girl! Why history is the backbone of our very society! And the liver! Probably the kidneys, if I were to wager."

Weiss: "And that means..?"

Dr. Oobleck turns towards Shallot to see if he knew the reason since his teammates didn't seem to know the answer.

Shallot spoke up.

Shallot: "The southeast quadrant outside of Vale is home to wild forests and deep caves, but it is also the location to one of the kingdom's greatest failures! In my opinion, though it is also one of the greatest successes since it was capable of building something that could act as a safety point without a large army there to protect it."

Ruby: "Mountain Gleen."

Oobleck: "Exactly so you all do know your history."

Yang: "That's right! It was an expansion of Vale... but in the end, it was overrun by Grimm and fenced off from the rest of the city."

Oobleck: "Correct! And now it stands abandoned as a dark reminder."

Blake: "And a likely place for a hideout."

Dr. Oobleck adjusts his glasses and smiles.

Oobleck: "Precisely! I do have to ask. Why do you also said one of the greatest accomplishments even though it was one of the largest failures that we have come across Shallot."

Shallot: "That's because Mount Gleen is the home to a large number of Grimm and was incredibly close to a certain research facility."

Ruby: "Hmm?"

Shallot: "Merlot industries was the facility that experimented on the Grimm that would come towards the city because they wanted to study the capabilities of their regeneration and their nigh immortality that they seem to have if they aren't struck down dust, aura, or a certain type of material like the silver weapons that are used by hunters and huntresses.

What was amazing about the facility was that they were close to making a prosthetic limb that would require metal like the metal prosthetics that most crippled hunters and huntresses have. They were close to making biological limbs that were capable of working just like a normal limb. The only downside to it was that they were made from Grimm parts that weren't capable of using aura.

The downfall of the city was partly due to a reactor going off at the facility that was located at Mount Glenn. This explosion freed the captured Grimm that were already there and those called more Grimm close by to attack the city."

Dr. Oobleck cut in talking quickly as usual.

Oobleck: "I never knew those things happened there. As far as we knew was that the city feels from an attack by Grimm. How did you come across this information."

Shallot: "I have some connections and when I came to Vale I decided to get as much information I could get while traveling. If we are traveling there we might be able to find remnants of the facility that was there. They said the head of research had died in the explosion because she wouldn't leave his "test subjects" behind."

Dr. Oobleck rubbed chin thinking that it was best the professor Ozpin knows that they have some new information about this area and could some more teams later to see if they could find anything that could help them later on.
