Chapter 89 - Defense Positions (2)

After they had were finished Ruby, Velvet and Yang felt like they were getting used to using ki for combat but needed more fights. They heard more rumbling and it sounded that the Grimm were coming in a larger number now.

Shallot: 'So this thing is capable of transmitting a signal which can direct the Grimm and I can only assume that it's Dr. Merlot that is trying to destroy it so we can't get any information from it.'

Shallot walked over to his device and started going through some information.

Shallot: 'Oh, so it seems that this was the device used by Beacon for security purposes but someone interfered with it and turned it into a device for them. So the Dr. is good at computer work and not just biological work.'

15 Creeps and 14 Beowolves came through the tunnel rushing out. Blake stepped forward this time and held up her hands this time and fired multiple ki blasts out and started wiping out the Grimm. She then walked over to the rest of Team CFVY and started talking with them.

Weiss: "Show off."

Weiss was standing and working with Team JNPR since Shallot was showing RUBY, Yang, and Velvet his techniques and how to use them. She then walked over towards them to see if Shallot could show her also.

Weiss: "Can you also show me how to do what Blake did?"

Shallot shook his head since he only planned on teaching those really close to him and those whose personality he liked and Weiss always seemed to act spoiled. Until she changed the way she acted he wouldn't teach her such destructive moves.

Shallot: 'Weiss still can't deal with her enhanced speed fully without her body feeling fatigued from it. She needs to work on her body strength first so that she can be more effective. I don't want to give her something that she may use just because she doesn't want to train in a regular way.'

Shallot: "You need to finish working with your body. Your body is almost to the standard where you should be able to fight longer just like everyone else without compromising your speed or style of fighting. I would teach you but seeing that your legs were so tired just from your one attack from earlier shows that you should concentrate on that first.

We have Four years together so you don't have to worry about not learning anything from me. Besides that, we also need to worry about the larger amount of Grimm that is coming this way. It's not an issue for most of us but it could be challenging for Team JNPR and Team CFVY."

Ruby looked surprised since she couldn't feel any Grimm nearby. Her eyes were giving the silver glow like earlier when she was feeling for ki when she started feeling around for the presence of the Grimm. She got another response instead. It felt like a lack of life instead of life energy that she could feel from everyone else in the cave.

Ruby didn't know if the lack of life in a certain area were the Grimm or if there was something that was draining the life from an area.

Shallot could see the slightly confused look on her face and also noticed that her eyes were shining slightly and had his interest peeked again when he remembered that Blake once told him that his eyes had changed to a silver color.

Shallot: 'Do the silver eyes give benefits with the usage of ki?'

Shallot was intrigued at this before deciding to answer the question that Ruby most likely has.

Shallot: "Ruby."

Ruby turned to Shallot since she was called.

Shallot: "With your facial reaction, I'm assuming that you have started to figure out how to pick up ki signatures or it may feel like presences to you. You can probably feel something like a presence in certain locations. Those lack of presences or life signatures is Grimm since they don't really have a life force in them. "

Yang was surprised that Ruby was capable of using the ki sense technique that Shallot just showed them since he also told them that most talented people take anywhere from a couple of months to a couple of weeks if you're a genius.

Another wave came shortly after 24 Beowolves and 2 Alpha Creeps came through the tunnels heading towards the groups. While Yang and Ruby were becoming more adept through combat and usage Weiss was trying to use the Grimm to adjust to her enhanced speeds with Glyphs.

Team JNPR was dealing with the 2 Alpha Creeps who seemed to be more durable than the last Creeps that came through.

Coco: "I think that someone is sending these Grimm. Every time the Grimm come they are larger in number and stronger than the previous ones. That means that they have a leader behind them."

The group worked their way through the Grimm with no issues and before the last one was dealt with another wave came out without any time passing much.

Shallot: 'Dr. Merlot must be getting desperate to be spending this much effort to destroy this since it may have clues to where he is.'

This time 36 Beowolves along with 4 Alpha Beowolves came through. 3 of the Beowolves looked like any other Alpha Beowolves while there was an Alpha that was slightly larger than the rest with most of its body covered in the bone-like material with a metal device strapped to its back.

Professor port had come in on the comms again letting them know that they were almost finished.

Port: "Hold on just a little longer, we're almost finished!"

In the middle of its forehead was something that Shallot recognized. It was a Yin Yang symbol in the center with red markings coming from the side of it.

Shallot walked forward and appeared right in front of it and smashed his hand directly into its skull flooring it. The Grimm turned into a blackish-red liquid and seeped into the ground before disappearing. As it was disappearing into the ground a low guttural rumbling sound was coming from it before it left Shallot vision.

Shallot looked at the ground seeing that the only thing that was left behind was the device from the Grimm laying on the ground. Shallot picked it up checking it and could hear ticking from it. Shallot just smiled at thinking that Dr. Merlot thought a bomb could do anything to him. He made contingencies after the train incident.

Shallot used his ki to make a sphere around the bomb and had it levitating by him and let the other deal with the Grimm. Through the course of the fight, Weiss was growing more adept at using her speed and was becoming more accurate with her strikes taking Grimm down in only one attack.

Ruby was using the ki enhancement with her petals making the petals appear in a metallic red color and left a whirlpool of petals as Grimm dropped left and right. She was using Crescent Rose to cleave the Grimm easily and went to another cluster to help anyone that seemed less prepared.

Velvet was back with her Team and Shallot could see the great teamwork that Team CFVY had with each other. Coco was using Gianduja along with her semblance enhancing the power behind the dust-infused ammunition. She pointed her minigun and did a sweeping motion taking down all the Grimm in front of her that she could see.

Fox and Yatsuhashi would deal with the Grimm that would come from the side that managed to avoid the rain of bullets. Yatsuhashi would be the should throwing the Grimm off balance while Fox deals heavy damage at close range.

From watching their movements it could be seen that they are using low amounts of energy so they can last longer in case of another fight. You could see the amount of experience they have from the way they fight.

Velvet was attacking the Grimm that was coming from the backside of Coco and using her Anesidora switching through various weapons and slaying the Beowolves depending on the position of her body to get the most potential out of every attack.

They all had cleaned up with Blake taking pot shots with ki blast not seeing much to do with Team JNPR were getting better with teamwork. Jaune was getting more experience as a Team leader for combat and also improving with the fights against the Grimm. He was still taking damage but his aura should still hadn't broken so he kept fighting.

Pyrrha had it the easiest in her Team with metal flakes flying around her turning into spears and shooting them into the Grimm. She was neither tired nor pressed since she could keep all the Grimm at a distance. If one did manage to get closer she would use her spear to deal with it without any issue.

The last Grimm feel and when everyone started relaxing Shallot was ready to move again hearing something moving underneath. They heard over the comms from Port who finally managed to get the security system for this area running again but wasn't capable of finding out where the commands that infiltrated the system came from.

Port: "Bravo, team! Bravo! The security network in this region is shipshape once again. I'll get some of our staff to see if they can find anything about that mysterious symbol. Excellent work."

The teams heard this and were ready to leave but Shallot and Blake were still prepared. Blake's instincts told her that she was done fighting and Shallot knew that something else was still close by. Blake's instincts and Shallot's ears weren't wrong because a black sludge came shooting out of the ground towards Velvet.
