Chapter 11: Everything’s Going to Be Alright, Or So I Thought

I woke up to almost unbearable pain but it was familiar enough so I didn't blackout; the first thought that came to me before I opened my eyes was, how am I alive if my mother and stepfather didn't survive the head-on crash?

After that, I opened my eyes and painfully looked around as my braid piled around the neck brace that was on. I sat up a little but stopped once the needles of pain shot through my side. Almost blacking out from the pain I had the feeling that I was being pushed back onto the bed with a familiar voice saying

"Honey, don't sit up yet you'll ruin your stitches."

"Ric," I gasped, "is he okay?"

A sigh answered my question as the dark spots around my vision cleared and I saw Renée. "He's still unconscious, he was found bent over the middle of the car with most of his bones broken while you were in the backseat. It looked like you were thrown in headfirst," she explained sorrowfully

"What are my injuries," I asked as a tear rolled down my cheek

"Your neck is broken along with your ribs, right arm, nose and you have cuts and bruises all over your body," she answered almost instantly. "You need to be careful with you move or a broken bone may pierce something," she added as I gave her a thumbs up

"I got banged up pretty bad," I said with a small smiled

Renée shrugged a little, "Yeah, you did but if you didn't point it out you would've died," she said and I raised an eyebrow in confusion. "The people that pulled you out of the car said that they think the driver pushed you into the backseat. Even the doctors say that most of your injuries resulted in being tossed backward by force. Ric risked his life to save yours," she finished as another tear rolled down my cheek as I started wondering why he'd protect me like that. "Sweetie," Renée began as she brushed a stray strand of hair out of my face, "don't cry. There's nothing that you could've done to prevent this, unless you could've waved a magic wand to fix everything there wouldn't be anything that you could do other than point it out. Yes, he may not survive but he'd rather die knowing that you'd stay alive than live knowing that he could've saved you," she finished, hugging my left side

"But it feels like I'm cursed," I began, "everyone's dying around me," I said just as a doctor walked in

"You'd better not be cursed," he said as Renée nodded, "if you're cursed than you would've been dead. I would say that you're more blessed than cursed with the luck that you have. How are you feeling this Sunday morning," he asked and my eyes widened

"It's Sunday," I asked in shock as he checked my vitals

"Yes, it is dear," Renée answered, "You were out for a whole day, we ended up having to call you off of school for the week especially once they heard what happened."

I groaned, I'll have so much work to catch up on, "First of all this was the last week before winter break so I need to see what exams I missed," I said to Renée then I looked at the doctor. "I currently feel like a lawn mower ran over me and a lion decided to grab me by the right arm and play with me."

The doctor smiled as Renée chuckled, "It's going to feel like that for a long time," he said as he approached my IV. "I'm putting some pain medicine in here so it will be dulled down but you may fall asleep," he said as he took a syringe and emptied its contents into my IV

"Thanks doc," I said as the pain slowly subsided as I looked at Renée who looked as sad as I've ever seen her. "I'll be fine," I said as either the pain medicine or exhaustion took over.

Renée smiled faintly, "Get some rest kid, I might not be here when you wake up since there are two shows today," she said as I smiled

"Okay," I said before falling asleep

😺😺Time skip cause raisins😺😺

I woke up to an empty room, I figured Renée was at the theater so I grabbed my phone with my free arm, it was on a tray that was resting across my lap. I then started going through my social media, the media went crazy with the crash as I saw notification after notification of people criticizing my silence. I made a post on both of my accounts explaining my injuries and how everything happened. The replies came immediately as some were judging me for not being open about my injuries. There was one in particular, with someone coming to my aid, that I decided to jump in on

Hamilton_follower98: Of course, you do whatever celebrities are doing to get attention and publicity. You're ugly and useless anyways

LinandRenéefan: That's not true, she's just as much of a beautiful cinnamon roll as Phillipa; she is answering everyone's worries.

Hamilton_follower98: Then why isn't she posting any pictures of her injuries or how she's feeling?

This is when I decided to step in

Rose_Stevens2k: Maybe it's because I am not that open about my feelings to complete strangers. @Hamilton_follower98 my reasons may be personal but go look at an article about the crash. I do not publicize any of my injuries because sometimes they may be too gruesome for others. @LinandRenéefan thank you for backing me up, you are a beautiful cinnamon roll as well.

LinandRenéefan: Thank you @Rose_Stevens2k and anytime 😉

Hamilton_follower98: Of course, you're doing what celebrities do, you lie just to get publicity. I'm done

I sighed as I closed my app and started talking to Cassidy

Weirdo #2: Hey weirdo, wyd?

She replied almost instantly

Weirdo #1: Sitting here worrying if a semi crash took you as I listen to Stay Alive for the hundredth time. Are you okay?

Weirdo #2: Other than in pain, I'm fine. It's pretty lonely in here, no one from the cast is here since there are two shows today.

Weirdo #1: Do you have any friends that could keep you company? And did you see mom?

I scrunch my nose in thought, then I remembered the girl that I met the day before the crash

Weirdo #2: No, I didn't see any of my family and as for friends, I made one after the Ham4Ham performance before I saw the show. Thanks for the reminder

Weirdo #1: No problem, I'm glad you're still alive

With that last message I looked for Sammy's conversation tab

Me: Hey, could I ask you for some accompaniment? The cast is onstage and I just woke up to an empty room in the hospital.

She almost replied as fast as Cass

Sammy Ed: Yeah, what hospital are you in?

I smiled as I told her the name of the hospital and my room number

Sammy Ed: I live near there, I'll be there ASAP

After I replied to that I smiled and started playing one of those strategy games until she came. Soon enough she came while panting

"How close to here do you live," I asked as she smiled

"Just a block or two," she said with a shrug, "how are you feeling?"

"Like a lawn mower ran over me and a lion decided that I was his favorite toy," I said as she smiled and chuckled

"How's Ric," she asked me as she sat down in the chair that Renée sat in moments before

I made a half-hearted shrug, "Dunno, none of the doctors told me his injuries, Renée only said that he was unconscious when I first woke up."

"Well," Sammy began, "let's hope he pulls through," she finished just as a nurse came in panting as if she was running

"Good evening ma'am," I said to the nurse, "how may I help you?"

"It's Richard," the nurse began

"Is he okay," I asked

The nurse straightened herself at the doorway, "I'm sorry but he died about three minutes ago. He passed away in his sleep peacefully," she explained as my heart dropped

I looked toward Sammy as a tear rolled down my cheek, "That's not the point," she began almost glaring at the nurse. "He died alone without her by his side, will you please leave," she finished as the nurse nodded then disappeared just as I started breaking down into sobs that hurt my chest. "It's going to be okay," Sammy said trying to calm me down, "you'll get through this and if you want, I'll be there to help you," she finished as I kept crying

After about a minute of crying I finally said something, "It seems like my life can't go right," I began in the middle of the sobs and sniffs. "Every time I find something happy in my life it gets crushed. I lost my life at home thanks to a car crash with a semi and now I lose my boyfriend to the same damn thing," I explained as Sammy held my hand in silent condolence.
