Every contestant was already seated on their terminals. Following the instructions, Eden too sat on his own terminal.
"The military personnel assigned to us is supposed to run from one end to the other. This is also a chance for me to show off my design capabilities." Eden whispered under his breath, "I think a military would prefer hard metal over nano-tech."
Eden finally chose to focus on folding technology, before moving forward. As for the weapon technology, he still wasn't quite sure.
"Plasma or laser?" Eden questioned himself.
While the assault rifle was a pretty good choice, if he was to focus on only one spot of the simulated environment, it didn't seem to work when he had to focus on the entire map, also the title was to reach to the other side of the map.
And he had a better idea, to work on a laser rifle rather than a plasma rifle.
"Laser it is," Eden concluded on the weapon technology.
Suddenly another question arose in his mind, "How many rifles then?"
A solder could only carry one rifle, two in case of light ones, so what was he supposed to do?
Opening the terminal, he looked at all the available AI systems provided by the competition organizers. He scrolled through the list, until he was able to choose one of them which was exactly what he wanted, and started tweaking it massively for around ten minutes.
"That settles the main problem. Now onto the flight technology." Eden mumbled, "As always the jet thrusters."
"The balancer, system processors, the fuel module, scanner, emergency module, miniature reacter..." Eden spoke with his breath while going through all the stuff he was going to work on.
After going through the entire selection process he finally stopped on the armor selection.
There were three ways he could do this, either he could choose an expensive alloy, or he could choose a very dense metal, or he could just increase the thickness of the metal which would result in loss of speed.
He had already wasted around half an hour on parts selection process and minor tweaks. Hence, instead of hitting his head for useless ideas he turned towards the terminal and started working on the basic frame.
The host was continuing the program showing various performances they had prepared beforehand, and presented the contestants time to time, before again going through various performances.
This was a normal procedure, after all the entire process a mechanics went through before fabricating an entire suit was very boring to watch.
As time went by, Eden too reached the very end of the process, until it was left with only the exterior covering.
Again like before, he entered the terminal store then began looking at the armor and alloy systems.
Seeing no other options, he finally selected, one of the strongest alloys on the terminal that he was allowed to choose from, before finally proceeding with the exterior armor design.
By two hours, he had already finished the entire process. However, the result was not quite as he had expected.
There were three weapons systems, two on the back of each shoulder fully handed by the AI and one one the hand which of course, was manual. Also, all weapons were double-barreled, which he tweaked using his own knowledge and skills.
The entire suit also turned out to be very durable. The real problem arose when it came to the energy capacity. In the simulation, the miniature reactor wasn't able to provide it with enough energy output for the suit to reach to the other end while using it's entire capabilities at once.
"That's not good," Eden mumbled before, trying other methods.
First, he thought about skimming its entire body, before proceeding with another simulated test, which he concluded was a wrong idea.
Suddenly he thought about another idea, "Let's add another miniature reactor."
He went ahead and added another secondary reactor right below the initial reactor, making the whole energy supplier module shape to look like a capsule, which also doubled the power output.
After working again for another half an hour, he finally completed the second design. He was about to run out of time, hence, he had to wrap-up the design as soon as possible.
So without thinking any further, he again sent the design on the terminal's simulation for a stress test.
Now that he had taken care of the power issue, after again looking at the entire test results, even though the results were not perfect (which it never was), he concluded it was the best not to think any further.
Finalizing the entire process, he presented the virtual design to the organizer's terminal for verification.
"With that done, my task is finished." Eden laid back on his chair.
After waiting for a few minutes while resting, the time to fabricate was over. By that time, almost everyone had completed their designs.
There were only a few who weren't able to complete the entire design. He was able to recognize who those were just by their expression. Of course, there were also those who were making a haughty expression.
....
"Finally, we are about to reach the conclusion for the second event." The host spoke loudly to the audience. "The selection process this time is a bit different."
"Unlike, last time, the military personnel's task is not just to reach the end line, they also have been given the right to provide, additional points for the designers." The host continued, looking below at the contestants.
"In other words, if they feel like it, they can totally scr*w us over," Eden concluded under his breath.
