Night in the hunting space

Touching the portal.

Feeling the suction and swirl and adjusting his condition, he started to look around himself. Noticing that he doesn't see any trees at all in his visions, he decided to walk to the south where he could see some small elevation of ground compared to the surrounding.

Slowly but surely he starts to come close to the foot of where the elevation start takes up, as soon he wants to go for it, he felt windblown to his face from the slope. And with the wind, there is a smell that he was surprisingly familiar.

The smell of a pack of hyena makes his nape hair stand. Sucking a quick breath he gets down right away trying to hide behind the grass. After a while, he realizes that he didn't hear anything come closer to his location. He starts to get into his knee and look around after getting sure that he doesn't get spotted, he starts to walk away from the slope getting into the nearby trees that have few thick vegetation behind it. Thinking that maybe he could go and climb it to try getting a lookout of what's ahead.

Reaching the tree he could see a few places where he could use to climb without much trouble.

While he is on top of the tree he could see what's near the topmost of the slope, where most of the grass near it being gone. A few hyenas are guarding a big hole, and few cubs running around.

Surprised that he come close near the den of hyena he starts to make plans. What he knows are there are 3 mature hyenas on the den, and a few pups he could see playing around outside the den, which means an unknown number of them going outside to hunt for the day.

To use traps that he got, he will need to attract those guarding the den and come to leave the den. first, he needs to find a spot to put the traps so he starts to look for location around where he was. Looking around he could see potential spots to put the traps in the nearby area, he starts walking into one of the places where there is a lone tree with quiet a clearing around it.

Reaching the tree he could see while the tree looks like it's a dead tree from how dry it looks like when he tried to shake it, the tree doesn't even budge. Trying to think of how to set up the bear trap around the first thing is he needs to make sure the trap won't get removed when they catch the prey. With that, he tried to circle the chain into the tree to see that there is not enough chain to make the trap laid down on the ground.

Just as he wants to go to visit another place he could see some of the roots are shown above ground. Having some idea he tried to dig into nearby and manage to see the root is quite big and deep underground. digging around to find a thick enough so when the hyena got caught can't escape he manage to find one after 20 minutes.

Securing the trap he starts to try making sure the pathway into the food he going to place is through the trap he set up. With that in mind, he tried to find some cover to make that there is only one way to the trap so that the chance of trap being triggered is higher. Without anything around, he looks up to the tree and starts using his tip of the spear to broke a few branches.

With few branches that he has, he starts to make some sort of a fence with them, but without anything to cover it, he felt that it doesn't seem able to stop those hyenae from jumping it over. With that, he walks into some grasses and makes them into a row of cover around the fence.

After 2 hours of works, he manages to make some fence covering the left and right side of the tree and the trap positioned near the end of the fence. Now all he needs to do is how to make the hyena come here.

Taking out the raw meat he could smell the blood smell from it, thinking that it should work baiting the hyenas to here with the smell he starts to cut the raw meat into pieces and save most of it into smaller bits with the biggest cuts stay around the trap.

Now all he needs to do is to make the small pieces of meats into a trail that leads to this way. with time nearing night and he doesn't feel comfortable going about in the dark he starts to climb the tree for the stay the night. Feeling the drop-in temperature he felt regret doesn't have anything to block the wind. But there is nothing he could do, for now, so all he could do are tried to hold for now.

The darker the night goes the creepier this place felt like, with the gush of wind comes and go making him shiver. While howls of animals and insects make him restless throughout the night. While he only manages to get some sleep for a few hours, he awakens at dawn when the sunlight starts to shine through the grassland.

He decided to start putting the raw meat and make a beeline into the hyena's den. Around 20 meters before he got near the slopes, he stops and looks around and takes a position behind the grass. Thinking this could cover him from the vision of the hyenas he starts to rub dirt all around his body in hope preventing them to notice him. With that, he throws the few pieces of raw meat in the den direction.

With some land far from each other, some manage to get close to the top near hyenas den. And for now, all he could do are waiting for the hyenas to find the raw meats and go into the trap.

After waiting around 30 minutes he could see few restless hyenas start making loud sounds and manage to find the small pieces of the bait. While 5 of them start to sniffs around looking for the raw meat wanting to taste more of it, 3 manage to find the trail while 2 go back to the den.

It doesn't take long to make 3 of those hyenas reach where the tree is. While one of them starts to look around because it seems to smell something different. It just couldn't understand what smell it smells. With one being in alerts the other two keep picking those small pieces of meat lying around the clearance and reach the fence opening. Seeing the weird location where there is nothing else and suddenly there is some grass around make them wary and start to notice another smell. While they were wary the keep coming closer and closer with only a few meters away from the traps and they could see a lot of meats near the tree.

One of the hyena starts to walk closer to the meats and sniffs around, but couldn't see anything else he starts to eat a few pieces, realizing nothing happened the other 2 start walk closer and trying to compete with each other for the meat.

It doesn't take long before the outer part of the bait got eaten, One of them starts to walk closer to the middle of the meat in the hope of eating most of the meat before the other two eat them first. After two pieces, it doesn't realize that it comes closer to the trap with the next step he could hear some click and boom! It's front leg got clamped by the traps and it starts yelping loudly.

Shocked the other two jumps back looking around for any intruders but after a while, all they could see is their member got into a series of yelping with the front leg being clamped into the traps. After a while, those 3 starts making calling sound for the other pack members it doesn't take long for the rest of them coming into their locations.

Seeing that one of their packs got into an unending yelp of pain, many of them start coming close to it. Some of them start licking its body and the leg that got stuck, while some circling the area looking for something, while some tried to bite the chain trying to figure what it was.

Without success, the trapped hyena starts to sit there and licking the wound trying to elevate the pain. Some of the packs couldn't do anything and go back to the den leaving it behind, while few stay near it. But eventually, they start to go back to the den too because they know they need to hunt again and protect the den.
