In the begging there were three gods. They did not know where they came from or what they were made for but each of them ruled over one region of the world. One ruled the sky, clouds rain thunder tornado storm and anything else present in the sky. One ruled the seas, lakes ponds, tsunamis, rivers and anything present in the waters. The last ruled the earth, mountains, hills, valleys, earthquakes, volcanoes, lava, magma, and everything that comes from the earth. They ruled changed and explored their respective domains for thousands of years, never interfering with each other.
One day the lord of the skies decided that there needed to be some change. He had grown board of living within his domain, so he called his brothers to council. The lord of the waters was first to put forth a proposal to ease his brother's boredom. He proposed that they should combine their powers to create something new, under control of their council. The lord of the earth came first and said that they should let the creation be birthed of his domain and that his brothers could then shape it. The lord of the earth in all of his genius created a pillar, large as a mountain and left it to his brothers to shape. The lord of the waters took from the sea a river that ran alongside the pillar and had the pillar drink from its waters. This made the pillar grow ever so slowly it had smaller pillars strike out from the top, and from those pillars grew more pillars and so on and so on. Then the lord of the skies commanded the pillars to take in the winds and to breath. This caused the pillars to produce green tears as thin as can be and as wide as boulders. The lords came together and named the creation Yggdrasil.
At first the lords were happy with their creation, but the lord of the skies soon grew tired of Yggdrasil as well and again called upon the council of his brothers. It was decided the next to create the root of their creation. This time they spent many days creating many beings such as serpents, sharks, whales, squid, fish, and many other forms of sea life. And again, the lords were pleased. But again, the lord of the skies grew tired. Again, and again the lords created marvelous beings of all kinds, from the smallest of field mice, to the mightiest of dragons, and one by one the lord of the sky grew tired of them all. He wanted change, and so he called his brothers again to council and decided to make beings made to and for change.
The lord of the earth created a body with two legs and two arms and digits to which it could interact with the world. The lord of the waters had the water run through the body creating small rivers so the body could grow and change. The lord of the skies placed in this body is desire for change and a seed of uncertainty so the no two beings od their newest creation would be the same. They named them humans and named them the children of the lords.
In following decades many races were born to mirror mankind. Each with their own specialty. Each with their own faults. But the humans were always the favorites of the lords. They had all of the strengths of the lords and were thus the most versatile. The lord of the skies in particular favored the humans among the lords. He gave them many gifts. Fire, intelligence, order, all were given to men. Using their gifts, the men created great cities and monuments to honor the lords and the lords were pleased. They decided that in order to enjoy the creations of their favored that they should take away their influence from the world. And so, the lords sat and watched as the world changed under the will of their children.
The first few decades were peaceful the men had taken it upon them to lead the others to creativity. Orks and dwarves became great smiths like no other. Elves and ents became the best enchanters I the land. The merpeople and shapeshifters became known as skilled hunters in their respective habitats. Many races became legendary in their craft under the guidance of the humans, but there were some who were not satisfied or not so talented. The goblins were jealous of mankind. Their greed left them unsatisfied with their silver tongues. They came to the giants, ogres, orks, and demons and planted seeds of envy, of greed, of hatred towards the rule of men.
The races separated from the rule of men and joined in union under the demons. The demons knew that the goblins had used their silver tongue to trick the other races. They knew that the demons themselves were manipulated into turning on the humans, but they gave in to their greed anyway. They believed that they were the only ones fit to rule the races, so they used their talents in curses. They took away the other members of the unions reason, reducing the races into mindless minions set to follow the demons and to kill humans.
War broke out worldwide. In the north and west the united free races fought against the rule of the demons in the east and south. The lords stood in a horrified daze that lasted many years as they watched their creations murder each others. The thought that their favored children would lose hardly crossed their minds and they believed that eventually humanity would win and that all would return to the way it was before the war. They were wrong. With the combined might of the two strongest races against them, the ogres and the giants, mankind found itself on the losing end in the war. The races under men started to realize that all would not be well if they continued to follow men. The merpeople retreated deep within the seas as did the dwarves inside the mountains and the elves and ents in the forests. Mankind found itself alone in its war against the demon empire. City after city, monument after monument, temple after temple, they all fell to the demon empire. How could men alone stand up to the combined might of the demons orks ogres and goblins.
The lords realized that men were losing and losing bad. They knew that if man fell, then the world would grow stagnant. They knew any race they created in the form of man after would fall to the envy of the demon empire, so they created champions of man. They exhausted their strength in creating three mighty champions, each for one lord. The lords, weary from the creation of beings with such power, retreated from the world again and each fell into a deep slumber. however, the champions did their duty and fought off the demon empire.
For many years under the leadership of the three champions humanity won battle after battle. The demons realized that they were at the end, that they could not best humanity by work of arms anymore. As the humans came closer and closer to ending the council of demons that lead the empire, a single demon stepped forth. He was the most powerful curse master in the entire human race. He proposed that they use mankind's own weapons against them, so just as the goblins did, they tried to turn one of the champions against the others. But the champion would not betray his brothers, he was not willing to listen to the demons. The demons turned to the curse master again and again the curse master provided an answer. The curse master used his talents to force a seed of corruption of the strongest of the three champions. The demon council named the curse master emperor of the demon race. They partied in joy knowing that with the strongest champion on their side and the other champions knowing none the wiser, that the war was theirs. Little did anyone know that just as he planted corruption into the champions, he placed a charm on the council.
The war reached a turning point. One last great battle was all that stood between humanity and victory, and in that last battle, the strongest champion beheaded his brothers. The human armies stood in stunned silence as they stared at their champion, not willing to understand the implications. In their daze they were not prepared to fight the demon armies that poured out from the hidden caverns beneath the battlefield. The traitorous champion lead the demon army against the humans alongside the demon emperor. The traitorous champion was promised immortality for siding with the demons, and so the demon emperor cursed the champion with undeath, forever loyal to him and him alone. The champion became unkillable by any means man had, but in the end, he was nothing more than another puppet of the demon emperor, and so the bleak end of mankind began. The demon emperor took leisure in torturing humanity as he conquered them, toying with them till they came to their end.
