4—Merel Verci

"Thanks-.... err do you have a name?"

He asks finally calming his excitement.

[The tome has no name besides the title. The owner may refer it as the tome.]

"Okay... Thanks anyway tome. I didn't know it would be so easy."

[The tome kindly corrects the owner, runology is not easy in the slightest nor is it easy inscribing runes.]

Before the young man could speak the new text appeared.

[Rune inscription is not simple. The difficulty of rune crafting comes from the resistance towards the rune by nature. The owner felt some resistance while inscribing correct?]

"That's right... it felt like pulling the pen through honey slowing me down."

[That was nature resisting the effect of the rune. The more your rune goes against nature the harder it is to inscribe, though writing a rune is never impossible with enough mental power any rune with any effect can be inscribed but at great difficulty.]

"If it's so difficult then how did I so easily defeat nature?"

[The tome detects arrogance, suggesting the owner rephrase his sentence. Arrogance has led many runologists to ruin. The owner has not 'defeated' nature and never will. The tome will explain.

Example: If you inscribe the rune 'sharp' on a metal sword it would be easily inscribed with little resistance, as it is close in nature to the nature of a sword, Inscribing the sword with 'soft' would face heavy resistance from nature as swords are never this way in nature.]

[In the owners case you faced little resistance as the 'calm' rune harmonises well with many things the air which it was effecting being one of them. The perceived resistance was due to the calm being caused outside of the natural order of the world.]

Patiently reading the text the tome provided while carefully processing the information he says...

"That makes perfect sense, though those were some ominous words about arrogance... what a flag."

[The tome will elaborate on it's meaning, due to arrogance many runologists have thought overpowering nature to be a simple task, attempting to inscribe runes highly resisted by nature while lacking the mental fortitude to resist nature in return has led to them being locked into inscribing that rune refusing to believe they couldn't do it as natures resistance grows stronger and stronger. After finally reaching their minds limit nature comes at full force ending their lives.]

"I was right... well thanks for the explanation."

[The tome hopes the owner heeds it's advice and doesn't pass away doing something as unsavoury as trying to make a chicken float.]

The young man chuckles at such a possibility before making a mental note not to overestimate himself.

[The tome has finished the fast track introduction to runology it recommends inscribing 'identify' on the owners palm to learn more of the surroundings. You can also store away the inscriptor by mentally exclaiming 'inscriptor' the same for the tome.]

"Hahaha good advice I learned a lot so quickly you definitely aren't an ordinary book."

[The tome accepts the owners praise, Does the owner have a name for the tome to whereby address the owner with?]

"My name... what was my name?... I don't remember my name! why am I only noticing this now!"

The young man grows restless at this sudden realisation.

[If the owner has no name, may the tome may suggest some names?]

Seeing as he lost his name a new name would only be a gain.

"Sure."

Showing a list of first names and surnames on it's pages.

The young man after spending a long time looking through the names he finally decides on a name to go by.

"Merel Verci. That will be my name from this day onwards."

[The tome has stored the name.]

Seeing no new text appear Merel stored away the tome by saying its name in his mind.

He thought of keeping the inscriptor in his hand to quickly inscribe in combat but threw away the idea when he remembered how long it took, the concentration required and the dangers of inscribing.

Storing away the inscriptor he proceeded to collect his thoughts.

"First I should explore the immediate area around me."

Saying his thoughts aloud he walks over to the bookshelf where only half a dozen books remained.

The rest likely taken when this place was abandoned books were of course treasured items in the age before the printing press all this worlds knowledge is in the form of books seeing as nobody smarter than a goat would leave a book behind to rot then these books must not have been of any importance.

Inspecting the book titles after brushing off the dust off of each book Merel laughs.

"As I expected..."

The books titles read in order as:

Tales of the sword, How to clean a stable, How to train your husband, I love my horse more than my wife and Steamy night at the ranch.

After spending a good amount of time laughing he finally controls his humors.
